I first heard this song about 3 years ago from a Friend, but it really made my day, while starting work at 4AM at Fashion Island about 2 years ago, this song played over their centrewide sound system. It made my day, week, and year, feeling the enjoyment of this song while at work. Thank you Ms. Diane, this song is AMAZING!
This is a woman of Tradition (in Evolian terms)! Gentlemen, such a lady represents the material incarnation of grace, nobility, courtesy and beauty. Before her, we cannot but keep silent and contemplate...
I was working at Home Depot back in 2009. I was working right under the speaker and it didn't have any bass, at all. When this song came on, it was kind of annoying because I didn't have the bottom end of the music, to cement it down for me. But every day I'd come in to work, that song will come on along with a couple of her other songs. I got to liking them, but I couldn't figure out who it was. I never heard this song played on the radio, as it was only at work, when I heard this music. As I was getting used to hearing her voice, it turned out the Depot was playing two other songs of hers, which turned out to be Dry Grass and Shadows, and, To Be Still. I never got to hear the songs in their entirety, because of the barrage of employees sounding off for managers for help in building materials, or garden depts. I can't remember how I learned the songs were from Alela Diane, with her doing the vocals, but those songs will stay with me, forever. Particularly, this one.
White as diamonds (lyrics) I've known mornings white as diamonds Silent from a night so cold Such a stillness, calm as the owl glides Our lives are buried in snow, oh, oh I was sifting through the piles In my hand a tangled thread Each patient tug upon the snarl Is a glimpse of what has been, oh, oh Burdened bands gain strong hands Gaping holes where diamonds should be Must have been the morning that stole them A glint of white in the pocket of winter, oh, oh And some hearts are ghosts settling down in dark waters Just as silt grows heavy and drowns with the stones Some hearts are ghosts settling down in dark waters Just as silt grows heavy and drowns with the stones, oh, oh I've known mornings white as diamonds Silent from a night so cold Such a stillness, calm as the owl glides Our lives are buried in snow Our lives are buried in snow
For sure, Didn't shed one tear from the ending like they said I would (Although I was close as all hell) But then I hear "Take us back" by this lovely woman, and I pretty much ball, put that song in any somewhat sad moment and you have beautiful tears.
I've known mornings white as diamonds Silent from a night so cold Such a stillness, calm as the owl glides Our lives are buried in snow I was sifting through the piles In my hand, a tangled thread Each patient tug upon the snarl Is a glimpse of what has been Burdened bands gave strong hands Gaping holes where diamonds should be Must have been the morning that stole them A glint of white in the pocket of winter And some hearts are ghosts settling down in dark waters Just as silt grows heavy and drowns with the stones Some hearts are ghosts settling down in dark waters Just as silt grows heavy and drowns with the stones I've known mornings white as diamonds Silent from a night so cold Such a stillness, calm as the owl glides Our lives are buried in snow Our lives are buried in snow
@Airspace I don't say it wasn't heavily postproduced, but those random pitch changes can be done perfectly with a human throat, it's similar to yodeling

The world won't truly go to shit as long as there is music like this...
Ure🎉s.❤
Her music is so beautiful and nostalgic it brings such a feeling to my soul. Big thanks to the legendary Walking Dead for bringing me here
I know she's American, but this gives me a nostalgic Canadian feel that makes me feel like home. So beautiful.
Maddy Harvey I thought she is from France
We aren't too different, you know. After all, we share common origins, for the most part
i always thought she has some sort of ancestral ties to the native americans
I thought she was native American

"Gaping holes where diamonds should be" is one of the most haunting and deeply moving lines I have ever heard.

White as diamonds (lyrics)
I've known mornings white as diamonds
Silent from a night so cold
Such a stillness, calm as the owl glides
Our lives are buried in snow, oh, oh
I was sifting through the piles
In my hand a tangled thread
Each patient tug upon the snarl
Is a glimpse of what has been, oh, oh
Burdened bands gain strong hands
Gaping holes where diamonds should be
Must have been the morning that stole them
A glint of white in the pocket of winter, oh, oh
And some hearts are ghosts settling down in dark waters
Just as silt grows heavy and drowns with the stones
Some hearts are ghosts settling down in dark waters
Just as silt grows heavy and drowns with the stones, oh, oh
I've known mornings white as diamonds
Silent from a night so cold
Such a stillness, calm as the owl glides
Our lives are buried in snow
Our lives are buried in snow
