Most records in this vid, are not 'live' and that's because it's too expensive for some program's to do an soundcheck with an whole orchestra, because it takes a lot of time. So, the do al lot of times playback's. But...it doesn't matter, because it's allways fun to see that good orchestra! Thanks, Joseph!

"True ... even on the famous German television shows: "Starparade" & "Show Express"; although some performances were live ... many others were previously recorded. James Last said he would have liked everything to always be "live" ... I remember the performance of Kai Warner (aka Werner Last) directing the orchestra of his brother James (James Last was sick) in an episode of "Starparade", that the music had already been recorded by James Last and his brother was limited to directing a music that had not even been recorded by him ... That is "playback à gogo" !!!"

All musicians hate playback...i saw an interview with Jan Oosthof, Trumpetplayer at James Last and he told that it was terrible to wait all day for a couple of minutes television. But, indeed, there's no money enough to take the time to makes soundchecks etc. Greets!

"Another clear example of the economic issue: One of the reasons the big orchestras stopped touring, playing television or recording ... was that it was not profitable. When in the early 80's came what was called "New Age" ... was the most inexpensive way to make music "pleasant to the ear" at a very low cost; compared to having to maintain an orchestra of 40 musicians. Regards!!!"

You're right. I never saw this on that way, but when i'm thinking about that, it's the truth indeed! Man, I love to talk and discuss and share thoughts about music! Greets!

@@gertsmusic4660 You may consider, the playback didn't just fall from the sky. It must have been produced as well, from live records. And guess who's musicians played for this records?
Also, James Last used recordings during his life concert, if you remember? If you got 20 violinists, but you want to sound like you conduct like 40, you record them and ad live play to it.
Something, that ABBA did as well, There sound is really great, while their band was relatively small...
