I use to have a nice 50ft Rohn Tower myself -- but then along comes that Ole Witch - Hurricane Katrina -- and she took everything. She basically wiped out Port Sulphur down in Plaquemines Parish in Louisiana... Nice Video -- keep um going. WSBU229 (Poplarville, MS). Salute to ALL who fought and gave ALL for this Country. Let us not forget.
Congratulations 🎉 on the house pool and tower 😉😉 Good for you. Don’t sweat what Gmom said. Sadly they grew up in a different time. Move on and don’t dwell on words.
Congratulations Eric on your new home, I understand the struggles as we have been through a lot ourselves, but without the struggle we would have no victories. Praying for you and your family buddy. God bless.
Congratulations on the new place. I understand the struggles. Glad you’re back and looking forward to more videos. VHF propagation has been awesome for the past couple of weeks. Was getting into a repeater in Palm Bay last week. Hope to catch you on the air some day. 73, KO4DNI
Nice setup he has. Last week I was searching towers on YT and found an older guy and his wife putting up a 50ft freestanding by themselves. He made a lift and lay mount and dug a hole, used 25 80lb bags of cement. The channel is buzzsah, I found it interesting to see 70 years olds putting up a 50ft by themselves. I will be going for my ticket soon, ready and waiting, I like your videos so will be back.
Lol Eric, as an Aussie ham with all the possums & cockatoos flying about who absolutely love chewing on coax cable I wouldn't dream of putting coax up a tower without conduit. Florida looks like the place to be!. Thank you to all the service men & women, many who had fallen as I also remember your sacrifice & may you shine so brite like the stars of the night
Aloha Eric, first off, thank you for your support of all of our military veterans. Semper Fi Secondly, you could of made good use of snatch blocks when bringing that tower down but you did fine. I like your ideas for where you want to put the tower but I would use the same angle but put the tower towards the back of the house instead of the front. Then you can afford helix into the shack. Now if that canal has flowing or standing water all year round, run a single ground strap under those hedges, then add a second cable connected to a horseshoe and toss at the bottom of that canal. If city workers pull it out during maintenance once every 5 years, no problem. The tower will be grounded and you’ll have a great ground plain for HF like we do here in Hawaii. If it’s mostly dry, during bad weather, it will work so sweet. If you can hammer a ground rod at the bottom of the canal, you’ll all the HF contacts you’ll be making and all you’ll really need is your Xiegu G90, lol. Speaking of Hawaii, for the last couple years, everyone has been buying Fujitsu solar air conditioners that run off of two 100 watt solar panels and you can run the air 24/7. It mounts up at the top of the wall near the ceiling where all the hot air rises and you control it with a tv remote. I would have a couple of 14 volt battery banks by using 6v & 8v golf cart batteries connected to solar panels without using a controller and add a 25 amp vertical wind turbine. You could actually power your entire house like I do here in Hawaii, you’ll love the overall savings, pays for itself in only a couple months. After that, you’ll have more $$$ for radios or sending your kids to college when they get older. I’m good on QRZ. 73
To help protect the three tower pipe connected to the top of the center mast, I bought a large galvanized funnel. I cut out the horn part and the funnel went over the center pipe and I put JBWeld around the funnel to the venter pipe (as a permanent sealant). It made a great way to keep the rain off the three legs connected to the center pipe so it didnt hold water and rust the joints.
So awesome to see you back again, Eric!. You & eSteffanie dropping vids just made my day. Can't wait to see more fantastic content which helps me also in my ham journey. I hope you & all your family have been really well, always be happy & I together with your viewers & subscribers want nothing but the very best in your life & stay as awesome as you are OK!. God bless you always & thanks for the tour!
Eric, it is a lot easier to set each section on the tower with the help of a gin pole. One man on the tower while another pulls the rope to lift each section. Make sure you allow for the bracket connecting the tower to the eve when you set the bottom plate. Best to use a piece of treated board lagged into the actual truss tails to attach the tower bracket to.
I used to do a bunch of those back in the '80s and '90s got them from Skywalker in O'Fallon Missouri best price I ever found, they're a wholesale outfit but you don't have to have a license or anything to buy from them just call them up and get what you want
Sucks about your grandma, I’ve never been in an uncomfortable situation with a close family member like that, but that sucks man, hopefully you can patch it up one day. I like your tower, I need one of those.
At minute 15:38 you mentioned that you grow up poor and look at you know, well you deserve it, your hard work is the result of all you have, not only material but I can assure you have a beautiful family and awesome friends. I watched this video very early 6:55 Am and is very inspirational. enjoy the tower, the radio and the good time on the air. 73's DX Mike N2MTM.
I was waiting for the shoe to drop as soon as I saw you talking about moving with / near granma. Eric, there's only one place where a man can be a man. You found it. There's a saying "always welcome, wait for a call" seems you're finally learning the definition of the word "family". Live long and prosper my friend.
Good to see you again. I am happy for you. I've been where you are. I'm even a drummer! Let me encourage you to fight hard to keep what you have. 73s and happy drumming. KE8PAG
So happy that you got your new home and a tower to boot! All the best Eric. Hope to see you soon. Let me know if you need help putting the tower up. Rick
Nice video, please be the bigger man and despite what’s been said which we aren’t privy to, please forgive you’re grandma. Remember this world isn’t our home, where just passing through. So forgive, not saying forget. Peace out ✌️
It's always best to have your own place. Family politics are too much for me. A couple of years ago I thought it would be a great idea to stay at my sisters, save money and set up Ham radio at her place. At the same time, her 4 kids decided to come back home and I had to start sharing a room. Guess what, no way! Get your own place and put up as many antennas as you like! Those in a relationship, make sure the woman understands your passion for radio from Day 1.
Great video! Thank you for sharing some personal things going on in your life. I'm going through some family stuff my myself. It sounds like you've realized that you're at a point where you need to do some things for yourself, good for you! I'm at the same point in my life. Thank you for all your videos! 73s Chris N1JQQ
I need to retake the technicians and general amateur radio operators license so I can play with CW, SOTA, POTA, slow scan tv, HF, and winlink. I really need to quit procrastinating, I'm already playing with a cw key noise maker, and I failed the tech by 7 questions and 13 for gen 3 years ago.
I got an 8m mast, but my rooftop is 33-35ft, so ill soon have 35ft with a 12ft mast on the chimney, my antenna of choice a trusted Silver Rod 5/8 wave of 24ft. Living at 90m above sea level works well for me, but an extra 70ft is an extra 70ft.
I might of missed it but is that a 40 foot tower? Also, what have you found for hurricane protection, I was thinking of getting a tower myself and was just wondering what your thoughts are. Congrats on the house as well, wish you all the best.
I really wanna try to say something positive, is anyone rowing this boat with me … Lord help me to be a positive person ,, and just keep my mouth shut when you know I should , amen
I am looking for a used tower, and up here in Ontario, I see people asking 1000-2000 dollars and you have to take them down! The greed is off the charts.
this is an instructional video of how NOT to take down a tower. i about spit my coffee out when i saw the tower in the trees. the tower no doubt is bowed or buckled now from hitting the ground.
That's a real asshole way to take a towel down. Luckily nobody got hurt. I've been doing towers for years. Best thing you could do is you climb up to the top of the tower put a rope on it loosen up the top section, pull it off and lower it down. Then you do the next just like installing it. Too many people get hurt that way and it damages the towel.
Thanks for remembering my buddies who didn't come back. It is appreciated. You get it Eric. KI5IBO

While anything w/ a tower is serious, the QSO'ing bk & forth among the group was VERY entertaining! 73 de WA4ELW in TN😃
congratulations your family deserves this home. Thanks for all you do for the community
The new place looks great! As one who also grew up poor and struggled, all the best to you, enjoy! You've earned it, 73.

Definitely like the flagpole with the count The filter light that was awesome my family are veterans over 70 years between two of them Brother and dad

The first thing I noticed when you got to your home was the PTZ camera by your front porch. Congratulations on your new house!
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD!!! wow great house, pools, surveliance, tower, cant wait for full shack build!!!

I am so jealous! I would love to have a tower and antenna in my back yard!
Please do videos of how you put up the tower. I'd like to get a tower, but i know nothing about them.
Omg. I'm surprised no one was hurt.
Glad too see you back and I want one

HOPE to see more content Eric,.. cheers n 73 😀
Congratulations on the new ponderosa. You have much to be proud of.
We built Rohn towers long ago. First step, place base in concrete and stack the tower upon the base using a jig to lift each segment.
Jig, how about a Jib Boom instead?
How about "gin pole"!
Yes, Gin Pole, I just saw auto spell/check helped me.
Nice video, please be the bigger man and despite what’s been said which we aren’t privy to, please forgive you’re grandma. Remember this world isn’t our home, where just passing through. So forgive, not saying forget. Peace out ✌️
Man that sucks sorry for the family drama good luck buddy gettingtgo somewhat of a normal life.
Great job. I love your new place its very nice. your closing was perfect for this somber day.
Very good video! That is a nice tower, and you have a very nice home! KO4NAD Alabama
Very nice
I'm glad your back and doing well!
this tower reminds me of a tower we used for a TV antenna back in the 80's
thats the perfect house congratulations!
nice, in good shape, enjoy.
& very nice words at the end🇺🇸
Looks like a new and exciting phase in y’all’s life!
You guys are totally nuts. I am glad I live in South Vero where tree bounce tower removal is an unapproved technique. KB3NG.

Yes!!!
Hinged base plate is a great idea, but as the guy below says use the proper one (or make a carbon copy of it.)
Eric, when are you going to install this tower at your home and finish your shack?
I need to retake the technicians and general amateur radio operators license so I can play with CW, SOTA, POTA, slow scan tv, HF, and winlink. I really need to quit procrastinating, I'm already playing with a cw key noise maker, and I failed the tech by 7 questions and 13 for gen 3 years ago.
Get proper hinges. Keep the tilt Idea. Put a deep pole and use a HD winch.
Dude!!! Jan da MAN
No dead decaying tree leaves were harmed in the making of this video. 😂

You need a window unit A/C or put one in the wall. Those indoor units are grossly inefficient. It looks like you're going to have a sweet setup!
Awesome
All I have is a 25 foot telescoping flag pole. That’s awesome compared to what I have.
Yeah lol I’m using an old tv antenna pole I pulled of a burned out house
My comment was made more towards the beginning of the video as it went on it got a little bit better
I moved to Florida from the Utica, ny area, Rome NY
Hey Jim!!! Long time no chat - k4iii
As an engineer all I can say wow this is what you deal with with amateurs
Maybe you can me with my project?
Do people climb that type of tower? I mean really without a tilt over looked like
This is overkill for a 40 foot pole I mean my TV antenna is 50 foot and it's just a pole
