    This is by far the best implementation I've ever seen of that design of wiper fluid dispersion. They usually suck. because they only put one nozzle aim to directly down. And that results in There not being enough fluid that comes out before the wipers move and the blades end up moving across a mostly dry windshield.
    That's the primary benefit of having the nozzles on the hood is that they wet the entire windscreen before the blades start to move. but the slow motion video clearly shows there is a huge amount of fluid that puddles up in front of the blades before they start to move and they push that wave of fluid all the way across the windshield. Really really good design.

    • @vdealer1
      @vdealer1 5 лет назад +2

      Look at the Mercedes ones on some of their models (as well as the Tesla Model X which I believe uses the MB part). It has many tiny nozzles along the entire arm and is really beautiful to watch!

      @@vdealer1
      the only real problem with washer systems that work as this does with a tube that runs up to the wiper arms. Is a tenancy for the fluid to freeze inside those little tubes during the winter time. Used to drive an 18-wheeler most of them used systems like this and that was a common problem. Although in a 18-wheeler those little rubber tubes are more exposed than they are on the Tesla. The one advantage of having the nozzles in the hood on a gasoline-powered car is you got the warm from the engine rising up through the hood and out toward the windshield and it tends to keep the washer fluid from freezing in the nozzles.
      But most people with Teslas are going to be charging the car in a garage overnight so it's not as likely to be a problem. Unless the car sat outside for a long time

    • @vdealer1
      @vdealer1 5 лет назад +2

      @@kens97sto171 Thanks, that's definitely not something I would have thought about and it's awesome that you have relevant experience with the semis. Hopefully it doesn't end up being a problem on the Model 3. I guess you really can learn something new from RUclips comments. ;)

    • @kens97sto171
      @kens97sto171 5 лет назад +1

      @@vdealer1
      Well the wipers on the model 3 are hidden down under the hood when not in use. That might help keep them out of the wind. The problem with semis is that the windshields are pretty much vertical and the wipers are just sitting right out in the middle of that wind at the base of the windshield.
      always had problems with washer fluid freezing on the windshields the wipers not contacting the windshield properly because ice builds up under the rubber and once that starts it propagates and gets worse and worse until the point where you have to stop and clean the windshield off which is a pain in the ass. Never understood why they didn't run a heated windshield element. Trucks always seem to lack some very basic and helpful equipment.
      you got $150,000 truck with the cheapest windshield wipers, I'm crappiest headlights you can put on a vehicle. Always seemed asinine to me.
      More new trucks are coming with nice LED headlights now finally

    Lifting the wiper arm doesn't break anything. It just takes a little force the first time but will stand up vertical without damaging the tubes. They just pull a little slack in. You will have to do this when replacing the blades or windshield.

    About a month ago I took my 3 in for them to check the wiper fluid lines as it appeared that the driver side fluid had very poor coverage. The passenger side was really good, but only the very top part of the drivers was getting much fluid. They looked at it and came back and said "all looked to be working normally", but I can say that the coverage of the fluid after they took a look works MUCH better. Maybe there was a slight kink somewhere that got worked out that they didnt even "see" when they were looking at it, who knows. But, it does work pretty well now.

    It is a great design in theory but in practice, there is pretty much no water that gets on the right side of the passenger blade so it never properly clean the passenger side and leaves a lot of light smear that seems to add up over time. There should be water on both side of the wipers to actually clean properly the windshield (mostly on the passenger side)...

    3:28 My old GMC Safari 8-seater van from the 90s did this and I wondered why no other car company was doing it. My guess was maintenance was a lot more difficult, and maybe they broke down more often? But ours never broke at all

      Are you stopping the windshield fluid from coming out as the wipers come down or is that a Tesla automatic thing? Actually, this technology has nothing to do with Tesla or how smart its engineers are. This technology has existed for quite a long time and is usually sourced through suppliers like Bosch or Continental.. Tesla doesn't own it, they didn't develop it and they don't even produce it. Misinformation like this (giving them credit for things they didn't do) is unnecessary driving up Tesla's stock price and turning it into a bubble.

    Great video, as always! One thing I’ve wondered about - does anyone know what brand of wipers Tesla uses? Wondering about replacements in a year or so.

    Make sure you don’t actuate the wipers with the frunk hood open. The wipers will hit the edge of the hood and chip the paint.
    Whoops, wrote that too soon. Of course Tesla fixed that in S/W updates.

      How cool is it to have ... everything ... controlled by software that can be updated at any time. It's the *art* of software brought to a manufacturing context.

    Hi Brian, I really enjoy your channel. I would like to say that your test of whether the windshield wiper hits the pillar on the driver side is incomplete as it doesn’t include some of the variables that could create that scenario. Namely, I would venture that people are noticing the wiper hitting the pillar at some minimum rate of speed while driving and not necessarily when stationary. Possibly how quickly the wipers were going might play a role as well? Maybe you could test some of the other variables?

      I didn't show in the video but I turned them on high and they still didn't hit my pillar.

    Get a second Roadster, it's a thing. $5K worth each referral.
    But, while it's OK to push codes, didn't Tesla have a policy of offering value in return?
