David Alkhed Ah. That's really interesting to know. It's a very different kind of voice in that film. The closest I can think to it is Gordon and Dent arguing over corruption cases.
Back then he used to pump out movies far more regularly. Ever since Interstellar, he's taken a gap of 3 years between his films. I think it's a good idea, because it makes all of his films feel like events.
I love how Al calls DeNiro "Bobby DeNiro"...i wonder how many people can get away with that. Only someone on his level who is a couple years his senior like Pacino.
Insomnia was very good. I saw it in the theatre & I remember I really liked it. I just rewatched it. Pacino gave a very underated performance. I like that nolan wanted to keep whatever they really have bc ur first instinct is the best one. Is nolan English he has a bit of an accent. Its tragic that pacino didnt win an oscar for either godfather movies. He carried the film and played an arc of michael corleone as a college boy war hero who wants no part of the buisness then bc of circumstances he becomes a more ruthless cold blooded godfather than his father. He was better than brando & denero who won Oscar's. Brando was great but al pacino was on much more & al was pissed he didnt get the lead actor nom but supporting nomination. They would never make brando be a supporting nomination as the greatest and I think the Oscars dont like normally to give an oscar to a new young actor like pacino. Then he got the lead actor nom for part 2 and lost to I dont even know. Denero won supporting . Wtf. Denero was ok in it but pacino was outstanding . Proves to me the Oscars are all politics . Scent if a woman I'm sure pacino was good but for that to be his lone oscar is unreal. He had 4 oscar winning performances in a row in his prime in the 70s. Scent of a woman was the make it up to u oscar bc pacino is the best after brando in his prime. Denero played the same role in my opinion . The italian guy with a temper. I mean that one face he has everybody knows it. Pacino went from michael corleone to serpico a cop under cover . Talk about range. He showed huge range within one film in the godfather part 1. Shame .
Nolan's unspoken words at 3:23 "We story board a lot of the action scenes but I tend to do a lot of them in my head, mainly because I'm a FUCKING GENIUS!"
What an underrated director Nolan is. Lots and lots of great stuff. Pacino is highly rated, on the other hand... and rightly so, I might add. Definitely one of the best actors in the business.
As someone who has Nolan in top 5 movie directors of all time, hell no he's not underrated. Dude literally has so many bangers and are well known by almost everyone. Only two movies that are maybe not that known or are "underrated" are Insomnia and Following, but every other movie that he made was a blockbuster and is still talked about to this day and are critically acclaimed.
Nolan is so easy to read. You know exactly what he is thinking and how he is thinking at it just by looking at him, even in 2D and on a screen. That must help when he is directing actors.
Nolan is not interviewin Al Pacino, Al Pacino interviews him. An actor, just like a mentor, giving a director advices about his job. Al Pacino is better at directing (see Looking For Richard).
@KayWildcat Interesting, I knew Scorsese any other people called him "Bob DeNiro", but I didnt know people called him "Bobby", which sounds almost childlike.
definitely i personally want him to go on a break..he has worked non stop after Batman begins (Te Prestige, TDK, Inception, TDKR)...i hope when he does return he goes back and does a more smaller scale neo-noir film. something a bit more personal, like Following or Memento
You have to give it to these guys. Their talent stems from technicality; applied knowledge... no hype, no hoopla, just pure, untouched knowledge and experience. Respect.
Insomnia was incredible. A rare American remake that has real dignity alongside the original. Nolan should direct more scripts written by others.
pacino won the oscar for scent of a woman remake but the original 1974 film is far better
PurushaDesa Nolan apparently did write the shooting script but because of some WGA rules he couldn't receive credit.
David Alkhed

I don’t mind a few adaptations but the best directors write there own scripts in my opinion and Nolan takes it to another level
John O’Rourke
I can get on board with that since I actually liked Last Jedi.
Yeah, I miss his non-blockbuster movies like Memento and The Prestige.
Havnt seen thoses in a minute gons watch that. Just seen inosmnia tonight havent in years .. gons watch the recruite i think and 88 minz

Favorite director. Favorite actor. Fucking amazing! How did that room not explode from that much awesomeness in one place?
It should've right
i wish al pacino had this style of interview with his directors in Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico
Please don't forget Carlito's way and And Justice for All.
Seems like the restaurant scene in Heat which reminds me of the Interrogation scene in Dark Knight
It's been 8 years but yeh it did remind me of the scene lol.
I just love hearing Al Pacino talk.
Me too, I can just listen to Al forever
He sounds like an old ragged Winnie the Pooh
And Nolan ❤!
I really wish Nolan found a way to include Pacino in one of his other movies, like the Batman trilogy.
Nolan could have taken Al Pacino as commisoner Gordon in the batman trilogy, but Gary Oldman did great job.
Pacino as Robin
@@ChubbyChecker182 no Pacino as Bane

And then you have scorsese calling him just *Bob*
Could you imagine a more posh boy?
i wonder when he realized he was God
He's not a god
@@aminhamiti7142 nobody else has such a perfect filmography as he does except kubrick and he is no longer alive. So yes nolan is the god of cinema

I own all of Christopher Nolan’s movies and I have yet to be disappointed with any of them! This man is a legend in the movie industry
Pacino should have played Falcone in Batman Begins.
Oh yeah. But Tom Wilkinson did a great job, so no regrets.
He's too famous to play a side character
An absolute delight. Period.
I would love to see them do another movie together! Maybe not with Pacino as a starring role but maybe a supporting character.
man look at chris's face u would've never known that he would direct the best batman film yet. hes got a batman director face too huh?
WTF THIS EXISTS?
Ikr, I just found it too. Diamond in the rough

Nolan is not underrated at all. The guy is a living legend now. Insomnia is underrated tho.

Nolan is a good listener!
two of my idols just talking. nice
Favorite director and actor in an interview, it’s perfect
I was just thinking the same thing
@rh1252 A LOT of people call him Bobby.......DeNiro is apparently very friendly and prefers "Bob"....
Nolan could play Vladimir Lenin in some movie. He looks very much like him.
He's so adorable, he has the exact same personality, now!!
I know, Al hasn't changed :)
1. Al Pacino is the greatest actor Nolan ever hire.
2. Nolan was only 2 years old when The Godfather came out.
i think hardy is better
@@longmemory1620 no way Tom Hardy is better as actor than Al Pacino
@@longmemory1620 hahahaha my god i dont even know how to react to such a stupid statement
Nolan should work with Pacino again..would seem like a nice fit, once TDKR is done.
i hope nolan directs the 36 remake

selman sarıkaya Its just a matter of Pacino having way more experience in the movie making process. Al is better director than nolan in your dreams!
Now if only we had a vid of Lean and Speilberg watching Lawrence of Arabia.
This is brilliant.

Really interresting interview.
Great man
Have you got transcript for this interview?
Christopher Nolan is an amazing director, but I can't take him seriously in interviews - he is the spitting image of Harry Enfield.
Nolan is a teacoholic.
Nolan smile is good
god Pacino looked so young.
@Afif Abdullah Was he? He was like 60 odd here.
@@leemcqueen500 yes but it's like he has aged 30 years within 10 years now. Smoking really is bad for health
