"What's your plan?" "Well, I thought we'd go back, with one knife between the two of us, and overpower him and his buddy." "Um... can we bring more than one knife?" "F*k you, Jeff, I found the tunnel, I make the plan."
lol. at first i thought,.. What did he hit the guy with? a swimming pool fun noodle? the guy turned around like it didn't even phase him. but then i remembered, they said he was a tweaker... So he was probably all spun out on meth and didn't even feel it. lol
It makes sense. Earlier he talked about how the police found the killer's body as well as one unidentified body. He was the unidentified body. They couldn't identify him, because he wasn't supposed to exist in that time period as an adult. He's from 20-30 years into their future, so ofcourse he wouldn't show up in any of their systems. Only his child self is meant to exist in that time. So, his child self continues to live his life, with the tragedy that his adult self accidentally set in motion, until he reaches the point in his life where he finds the tunnel and takes his friend through it, which leads to his death. It's a paradoxical loop. His desire to save his parents is what ended up getting them killed. By travelling to his past as an adult in an attempt to kill the murderer before the murderer kills his parents, he accidentally ends up giving the murderer a reason to go and kill them. It's a loop. Neither of them can escape from it, because by the time they realize they're in the loop the events that caused it have already happened. Btw this is not my comment it is somebody elses big brain but im just spreading it around so that it has a better chance of getting looked at as his was a reply
Hey, I remember commenting this some years ago. Lol, this is a first for me. I did reply it to someone. I suppose I could go dig it up to prove it, but I don't particularly feel the need to prove that. I know I made this reply and that's enough for me. Anyway, thanks for the repost, man. First time I see someone reposting something I said to help it get attention. I suppose I should be flattered, but I was really just dissecting the movie for someone who didn't fully understand what happened. Since then, I've also come to understand the underlying message of the movie, which escaped me at the time of making that post. It's about letting go of your past and not letting a tragedy of your past define your future. Let it go and move on and you'll live a much happier and more fulfilled life. Clinging on to the past with this level of obsession means you don't really have a future of your own until you've learned to cope. I always liked this movie short. It's a great movie.
Why couldn't they identify the brother? It doesn't say how badly the body is burned. Even with burned body to a crisp, some DNA should still be viable and there is also tooth impressions. Which could lead the police to believe it is the future brother of Jeff.
Also if they go back in time to kill the murderer of their parents, what happened the first time? The first loop or iteration when they were only kids but the future selfs were not there. The murderer wouldn't be there either. There has to be a first iteration to start with and then for the plot to even happen they would need to travel back in time and a reason to travel back in time which they wouldn't have there would be no future them to bring the murderer over.
You spreading it around sounds like, spreading around lies without realizing it. Just as the brothers don't realize they are part of the loop as the video clearly suggests. But there still has to be a 1st iteration where there are no future them in the past.
@@Xylarxcode Hey! I just came back to your reply, its been some time. During lock down all I could do was watch endless videos, and time travel videos in particular were amazing and fascinating to me. But yeah, you have an amazing analysis on the film and your ability to dissect it is in my eyes talent. You seem like an intelligent person just from the way you talk, I hope you take it as a compliment. But I hope your enjoying life and best of wishes to you in life as your a stranger that ill never interact with again, so goodbye. And make sure to enjoy life at its fullest!
I also think it shows that everything happens for a reason. I've learned to live my life looking at it this way and it has helped me through so much. Even when things happen, and not just bad things, but things we don't understand at the time, you come to learn at some point they will play a part somewhere in your life. You just need to open up your eyes and see it. There are signs and meanings everywhere, and if you don't dwell on anything, good bad or otherwise, you will start to see them and see the meanings behind them. Watching this reminds me of that.

This is one of the best shorts I've seen in awhile. Nice treatment of the whole "can't go back and fix it" time travel concept. Good job! Also, cinematography is superb. Great gloomy/autumn background, really heightens the mood!😊❤
This is what happens when you're too stupid to test anything first and just jump straight to the end with no real plan. The first rule of time travel is figuring out what kind of time travel it is, and what, if anything, you can actually do.
The sound effects are definitely not on par with the rest of the film and I still cringe at a couple of the sound effects when I watch it lol. Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great day
Great story!! I’ve been watching a mixture of sci-fi and horror shorts, and many are “mood pieces” or very open ended. This was a real treat - a poignant, thoughtful take on Serenity Prayer wisdom. Well done!
The moral is “You can’t go back and change anything….all is how it’s suppose to be, we don’t know why but we will know when we pass, everything we fret about and worry about doesn’t matter. “ because love is the only thing that matters!!!! ❤
Not quite the same thing. This makes it clear the future selfs cause their parent's murder. So what happened in the first iteration? What caused the murderer to go there? Who was the unidentified burned body, if there was one? Why would there be fire at all? We don't see Jeff start the blaze. If he did set it, why doesn't Jeff just not set the blaze and drag his brother's body back so there is no unidentified body?
I do not get WHY this producer has SO little subs. This is absolutely a must watch!! This is the best time travel short film ever, no wait, the BEST short film to date!
Aebomations, that is genuinely the most flattering comment I have ever gotten. Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching. Please help me share the film and subscribe for more content coming soon!
I'm afraid I don't quite understand your villain with the long blond hair. What was his motivation for killing them? Why is he seemingly not affected by punches and stabs? Why do your characters consistently hit him once and they pause in awe? Why is he all terminator one moment and then is all "Ughhh!!!", "I'll kill you!" the next? How does a downward swing of an axe create that kind of wound on a bicep? Really not meaning to be too harsh, those are just a few things that confused me about the short.
I had to watch it again for the motivation but here's what I think it is: The son (protagonist) is Jeff Hunter Jr., so the villain with the long hair thought he was being attacked in the night by Jeff Jr. He reads his ID, and finds the name, then looks into the phone book to find where Jeff Hunter lived, and found Jeff Jr.'s dad. So the time travel WAS his motivation for murder. Can't explain his godlike immunites though.
You’re right on the plot. For the “invulnerability” you should look up the inhuman things people on meth and PCP can do. You can run on broken legs and lift heavy objects while tearing all the tendons from the bone and still keep going - it’s terrifying stuff
Student Chao Ren they needed that in the plot to figure out why he went to their house (because they went to attack him as adults) if he just had his driver’s license, they wouldn’t realize it was their fault he found the parents - if you mean driver’s license of one of the boys as adults, that would have caused all sorts of confusion in the past when they were children - and also would have led him to another address (assuming jeff didn’t stay in the family home)
Can you explain why you liked primer? After I watched it I didn’t understand the hype. I thought it would have been a better short film personally. I would love to hear why you like it so when I rewatch it i can go into it with that lens.
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed the film and the sadness that is a predestination paradox. I think this should have more views too! Please help share and subscribe :) thank you again for watching.
No prob, your short movie is great, and youtube is weird... But, your dad is italian? P.s.: by the way, I'm obsessed by the theme of the temporal loop! 😉
Alright before I finish this short film, I will say I'm 2:09 into it and ive already begun to cry. The quality is GORGEOUS, the narration is ASTOUNDING. Please win some rewards for this, alright I'm gonna finish the movie now wish me luck. 10/10
Dutch Aquaria, your comment is so kind, my eyes teared up when I read your comment. This was a thesis film for my film school and my teachers hated the narration so I am really to happy to hear you liked it. I hope the rest of the movie lived up to the beginning ;)
I've been watching tons of shorts on RUclips with this theme, and this is by far the best yet. Simple script, minimal effects, great acting, simplistic soundtrack and cinematography. This is how to make a film!
Nicely done. Good acting, pretty good dialogue/script, well done story and good pacing. Production wise I especially liked how realistic the hits and whacks sounded. So many movies over emphasize the thuds and cracks and it sounds fake but here they sound real, so well done. Only criticisms are that it's a little bit hard to follow and a bit convoluted in the middle but I get that it's a complex story that has to be expressed in a very short time so it's understandable. The second criticism is the score/soundtrack which took me out of the action with the droning synths but I get it's a low budget production and John Williams probably wasn't available so that's also understandable. So, not dealbreaker criticisms at all. One of the better time travel shorts I've seen. Good stuff. :)
So somehow them being at the killers house gave the killer a name to find in the phonebook but how? What is that connection? And the killer ran straight from the squabble to the house to kill everyone?
He took his ID and read it out loud. In the 1990s they had phone books so when he looked up Jeff’s name he found Jeff’s father (Jeff hunter sr.) instead.
The main characters saved themselves as children, by going back in time and trying to kill Roger (the villain) but by doing that they made all the events and the murders transpire. It is based off of a causality paradox. Thanks for the comment!
Jacob Robert Desio Can you please explain why the killers went looking for their families? I didn’t understand how the killers figured out who they were. That’s what’s driving me a little crazy. I hate not understanding! Thanks!
Alissa Nesson when they went to kill the bad guy, the fat brother was in trouble and called his brother's name aloud "Jeff, Jeff, Jeff". The killer heard the name, searched it up in phone directory and found Jeff's dad's name "Jeff Sr". Killer went to their house and killed them all. There are plot holes like how did the Killer do everything so fast etc... But this is a short movie so yeah
In the junkyard when he puts the knife to his throat, The killer grabbed his ID which had the name Jeff Hunter (Jr.) then the killer looked the name up in the phone book and found his father Jeff Hunter (Senior).
I would like to see a true paradox film, one where, no matter what one does to change the past(tens, hundreds of different ways to try to change it), it always ends the same. Jacob Robert Desio wrote: "absolutely, there are an infinite variation of choices they could make *but because they keep making the same choices* and have become stuck in a time loop." So, really this movie is about insanity. Only insane people think that you can keep making the same choices and end up with a different outcome.
AlabamaJRB, they have no idea that they have made those choices because they cannot see the future. To them it is always the first time making a decision. There are multiple kinds of paradoxes - mine is based off a predestination paradox which is a "real paradox" - I would recommended researching different paradoxes so you can see how they all are quite different. Also, that is not the definition of insanity. "Insanity" is a legal term that declares a persons mental state or you can take the more modern definition of "someone who is mentally ill" but the whole "insanity is making the same choices hoping for different results" is just something people say - that's not a real thing. Thanks for watching the movie and sharing your thoughts! Have a wonderful day
AlabamaJRB the movie "the time machine" is just that. No matter how many times he tries to save his beloved from dying, she still dies but in a different way
Why didn't he yell out while trying to climb back up? This was really good though. I figured it out as soon as he says they find the guy's dead body and one unindentified body.
@@felixpham4934 Their parents were friends and were hanging out together that evening, as were the boys. Remember, their moms (plural) took them to the lake. I think there were a couple of other times you could tell from what they said that they weren't brothers. Finally, the description of the short describes it as "Two estranged friends attempt to rewrite the past..."
Jeff I've discovered a portal in time and space, let's go face a drug crazed killer with no plan, concept or strategy. Best of all, let's not go to whee we know he is going, let's go to where we think he might be. Oh and no guns, spears, pointy sticks or anything ok.
Just because you didn't see them talk about the plan doesn't mean there isn't one ;) I left out several scenes to keep this "short". Thanks for commenting!
Thats why its called a paradox, the tweaker (with fantastic shiny hair) only went to that address because the two idiots attacked him. Tweaker gets Jeffs wallet/id then goes to his fathers house (also Jeff Hunter) and goes on a murder spree. Btw I wonder if Jeff got his name from the actor that starred as Captain Pike in the first ever Star Trek? He was in other films also, most notably The Searchers with John Wayne...
Tom Treacy very well said! I actually just made up the name (it’s connected to another one of my characters in another short film I made). That’s interesting trivia though! Thanks for commenting!
That wasn’t hard to understand at all if u understand the concept of a paradox. They went back to save their parents which caused the killing of their parents that they didn’t realise was gonna happen when they decided to do it. When the kid says he saw himself, it was the future him coming back, so it already has happened. That’s when the future him realises it when he says to his mate I saw myself as a kid. It all made sense to me. As for how the killer found their parents, back before the internet u had to look things up in a manual or book. Compare to other paradox shorts this one was simple but got the point across, which is what every paradox shorts need to do. Good job guys!!!
my problem with finding his dad in the phonebook is.... how did he know his name? he says "my dad is jeff hunter SENIOR" ok.... well, the killer would only know your name as Jeff, nothing else. in a big enough city or town where there's an entire section of town "no one talks about" means the killer wouldn't know who jeff is, especially if jeff (the son) is an adult, not a child, so, i mean, none of that makes any sense. the killer wouldn't have been able to find where they live in a random phonebook just based off the fact that the one character shouted Jeff's name.
@@tirkentube that murderer saw his name on wallet or something at 10:15 . That's where he knew which name he should search on phone book. He simply searched jeff hunter.
It makes sense. Earlier he talked about how the police found the killer's body as well as one unidentified body. He was the unidentified body. absolutely, there are an infinite variation of choices they could make but because they keep making the same choices and have become stuck in a time loop. Thanks for watching and commenting
The guy now has a memory of the past loops it seems, so he should be able to gradually modify the loop. Unfortunately, each outcome is going to be chaotically random. This is an interesting version of Groundhog Day.
Nothing changed. "not a damned thing" He still remembers seeing his friend's 15 year older self in the window and that friend still dies. Unless he can go back to that freshly remembered scene again and be a second version of his older self to interfere.
I read the comments to see what others had to say before I said what I have to say. This was very good The only discrepancy in the whole plan with the young men was they didn't take enough Weaponry with them to confront the drug addict and what were they planning on doing? just holding him for the night Etc. But that is the reality of people who are not aggressors they don't think ahead when they're trying to do something like this they don't really have a plan and they get themselves into very serious trouble. I knew it was going to be something really strange I was just surprised he had them go over to the Killer's house instead of that they were too late by the time they got to the house to stop him but the other ones that saved the boys so you really couldn't change history all you did was save the boys and that the body that was in there was his friend. It's also a very good tale about not living in the past not holding on to your anger over a terrible loss and believe me I've been there in something like this. Bad horrible things happen to good people it's not God doing it it's not your fault just sometimes things happen. I'm hoping that maybe he makes another film sewing this man trying to go back and change things so that even his friend doesn't end up dying in the future. Most important part he learned was you don't look the killer Know Who You Are then the killer doesn't choose you as a victim. Felt the first of cinematography was beautiful the outdoor scenes were just simply gorgeous the murders of the mothers was definitely sadistic enough and thank you for not the excessive blood and gore that it could have been. The voice-over narration was great although hard to hear in the beginning and not quite sure what that was but other than that it was it helped carry the story along. really hope you do well in this line of work because it appears that you have talent and if given a chance could do so much more I know it's extremely competitive especially in this day in age or 10 grand can literally make a really good film so good luck because this was a very good thesis film and I really love time travel films and they're one of the hottest genres around and books Etc so you can't go wrong but I'm sure you'll get into other things also
Excellent film! I only wish it was longer! I wouldn't call the cinematography simple at all! I thought it was fantastic! Soundtrack either. But then, there really isn't a "soundtrack" It's more of a musical score, and so well done! Great Job Mr. Desio! Keep it up!
Thank you so much! I basically tried to cram a two hour film into fifteen minutes and I want to adapt it into a full length film soon. The majority of the music was an original composition from my friend and a very talented musician Aaron Honda. Thank you for the support and for the comment!
theres some bootstrap paradox going on and i dig it (like you dont know for sure whether them going back in time is what set off the events initially or its their parents being murderered)
I don’t understand the part where he talks about how he saw his future self outside the window, and the part where he says his father was Jeff Hunter Sr, other than that everything was great
It reminded me of a Batman comic where he goes back in time to kill the man who shot his parents, but then as his parents and himself start to leave the alleyway he realizes that no one is going to kill his parents, so he has to shoot his own parents otherwise He won’t ever become Batman and save all those people, so he shoots his own parents and runs away so that young Bruce grown up to be Batman

If time travel become possible, these philosophical paradoxes will never exist in reality. And in fact we don't no whether we had Time Travelled in our past or not .So we may still travel to our past and meet our past version .
THIS IS SO BIZARRE. All my life I have remembered what I seem to feel is my first ever dream which I have never understood. The very first shot, of the pond rippling is exactly that dream. I am 57
Thank you for dreaming of our film as a child! I have chills all over right now. It is a good reminder that time is not linear and that we are all connected. Thank you so much for commenting.
@@jacobrobertdesio9265 i am as surprised as you are Jacob. I always remembered this dream as the one from when I was born. It's my "awakening" from the womb. That's how I always thought of it, anyways. It has never made sense to me though. how could i remember my own birth? Good luck with all your future projects. Jim
Beautiful cinematography, but the sound was very off in the "action" sequence. The script was good, but the scenes in the house was off and didn't fit well with the rest of the short.
The house scenes (everyone on set referred to those shots as "The Murder House") were originally written and choreographed in a two story house and the mother got dragged down the staircase. A couple days before the shoot we lost that location (the property owner decided two days before they only wanted us there five hours and we ended up shooting for thirteen hours so it would have been impossible). Last minute we had to rewrite the scene for the one story house we shot in and the scene suffered because if it. As for the sound I completely agree - the sound is the weakest part of the film in my opinion.
Can someone explain what the twist was? At 11:08 one of the characters says his dad was Jeff Senior - the killer? How did he not know who his dad was before? What tipped him off after being attacked? At first I thought they were brothers so it was confusing at first.
In my rather long life, I have never heard anyone say "light shimmering off the water". The brother that says that talks in a rather literary and stilted manner, I think. However, the film has some very professional production qualities, and the acting is pretty good for an independent short film. I hope you keep up your efforts in film making.
Periherlion just cause you never heard in your rather long life, anyone say "light shimmering off the water" doesn't mean people don't say it or it doesn't realistically happen .... I never heard of the word bloke, oi or wanker, shag or countless other words before I heard them for the first time, United Kingdomers or British people say a lot. Before I ever heard of certain words, does that make those words fake or otherwise untrue phrases/terms?
Strange, I used that exact term myself to describe the time my wife and I picknicked and napped by a Tarn in the UK's Lake District. There really was something captivating about the way the dwindling light was shimmering off the water.
You really waited for bloom the fog?? or artificially made it? Whatever, What a fantastic film. I think this cinema is time paradox genres standard. and now, I'm waiting for your next pieces.

This is one of the best shorts I've seen in awhile. Nice treatment of the whole "can't go back and fix it" time travel concept. Good job!
Also, cinematography is superb. Great gloomy/autumn background, really heightens the mood!😊❤
This is how time travel actually works IRL. Nice to see someone making a movie about it actually understand it first for once.
How do you know it works like that irl? 🤔🧐🤔
@Idlehands13 😆🤣😂
Sad ppl haven't evolved more spirtually yet. Smh.
This is what happens when you're too stupid to test anything first and just jump straight to the end with no real plan. The first rule of time travel is figuring out what kind of time travel it is, and what, if anything, you can actually do.
Terrific film, profound treatment of time travel. Excellent acting and the mood of the setting is gloomy and adds a great deal to the atmosphere!!

Making movie on this phenomenon is really tricky, but you did it really well.... great work.🤘🏻👍
Classic. You can’t change the past. By trying to change it, you end up causing it.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand your villain with the long blond hair. What was his motivation for killing them? Why is he seemingly not affected by punches and stabs? Why do your characters consistently hit him once and they pause in awe? Why is he all terminator one moment and then is all "Ughhh!!!", "I'll kill you!" the next? How does a downward swing of an axe create that kind of wound on a bicep?
Really not meaning to be too harsh, those are just a few things that confused me about the short.
Bravo Kilo My thoughts exactly, especially what you said about him being invulnerable to attacks. Nonetheless I enjoyed it.
I had to watch it again for the motivation but here's what I think it is:
The son (protagonist) is Jeff Hunter Jr., so the villain with the long hair thought he was being attacked in the night by Jeff Jr.
@ThePicklesGames they kept saying phone book but I’d believe it was his ID was a drivers license with his address on it.
Great work! It was shot so well!
Blar Productions thank you so much! Your drone shots are amazing in it ;)

Good stuff. :)
Nicely done indeed. Would love to see more time travel stuff from you.
I appreciate that! I hope to do more time travel films in the future!
So somehow them being at the killers house gave the killer a name to find in the phonebook but how? What is that connection? And the killer ran straight from the squabble to the house to kill everyone?
If they had any time they would run to their house and stand guard till the tweeter found out where to go.

Can someone please explain the plot here. I couldn't understand what exactly happened. 🤔

@@NeevanIssac but before Alan could scream for Jeff. Killer has already recognized Jeff by his name .. so.how?

Wow...great film and story. You’re gonna make it in Hollywood
That is so nice if you, thank you so much!
I would like to see a true paradox film, one where, no matter what one does to change the past(tens, hundreds of different ways to try to change it), it always ends the same.
Jacob Robert Desio wrote: "absolutely, there are an infinite variation of choices they could make *but because they keep making the same choices* and have become stuck in a time loop."
So, really this movie is about insanity.
Have a wonderful day
Watch "Predestination" with Ethan Hawke and Sara Snook.

AlabamaJRB the movie "the time machine" is just that. No matter how many times he tries to save his beloved from dying, she still dies but in a different way

@@lzclips541 they seem to have the same parents.
@@felixpham4934 Their parents were friends and were hanging out together that evening, as were the boys. Remember, their moms (plural) took them to the lake. We have time travel...photos, video recordings, dreams. The myriad of time travel Sci-fi's reveals a deep psychosis in our collective psyche.
Nice i want another time paradox!!
Thanks for commenting!
exactly what I was thinking.
@@victoria11116 you're right. i see it now, i missed that somehow the first time around.
Excellent. Simply excellent.
That is very kind of you to say, thank you my friend.
Wait, so the chunkier guy ends up dead - if those events played out in the past...
Actually, screw it. My head hurts.
Thanks for your great expectation
@@Xylarxcode Thanks for the clear explanation because I didn't understand it either...
Great short film. I hope to see more in the future.
they could tell the cops that at that time killer can come or they can tell the family to move away
absolutely, there are an infinite variation of choices they could make but because they keep making the same choices and have become stuck in a time loop.
"Hey so we're from the future and someone's about to murder y'all" isn't very believable

At the end survived one can go back just before his friends came to him for showing that shitty tunnel
He did go back, But he fell in the valley and saw both of them going into the paradox.
Desio! Keep it up!

That's a stupid batman plot.

Saw the ending coming a mile away.
That's why they talk about the killer got his dads name from the phone book
Jacob Robert Desio yeah I still don’t get it🤔🤷♀️
In my rather long life, I have never heard anyone say "light shimmering off the water".
The brother that says that talks in a rather literary and stilted manner, I think.
However, the film has some very professional production qualities, and the acting is pretty good for an independent short film. I hope you keep up your efforts in film making.
Perihelion77 I agree...That did come off as rather peculiar.
Purple prose. Looks better on paper, but yeah, super unrealistic to say out loud.
