  • Day 14 - Denmark to Albany (The Final Day)
I was sad and excited to finish at the same time. I knew every turn of the pedal was bringing me closer to the end of this epic ride which that i'd been planning and thinking about so much.
Overall the trip was everything i'd thought it would be. It was hard and miserable at times, but i'd always be thinking how lucky I was to be able to experience riding through the forests of SW Australia.
I learnt that no matter how far the distance, if you just keep pedalling you'll get there in the end. It's also very important for me to have some time to myself and recharge.
Get out there and do it yourself, even if it's just a one or two day ride.
    Thanks for watching.
Big Thank You to Non-Functional Harmony for the music that i've used.

could you imagine doing it again with twice or three times as much time taking side roads, maybe taking a fishing rod or doing a bush walk. I am planning on doing the trail. Enjoyed your show.

A great set of videos B&B. Lots of really useful info for me & others planning the ride so thanks for taking the time to edit & post 👍 Saw lots of the bike but no biscuits 😜

Glad you liked the videos, grumpy moments probably not so much. Many biscuits were sacrificed in both the ride and editing process (think cookie monster). Really hope you enjoy your ride, very jealous.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Glad you've set a date as that's half the battle. Make sure you record your journey, even if you don't stick it on the tinternet. Trying to plan my next ride now, so hopefully I'll have something else to record. Safe trip and if you have any questions just ask.

    Congrats mate, well done.
Apart from the Day 4 Blues, we all get them, hiking or riding, I think you enjoyed it.
Now that almost a couple of years have passed, do you have fond memories and would you do it again?

Great job editing and of the ride!!. I am planning very similar to you north to south, solo in early April 23. Your videos are a great reference. I had planned on staying in towns each night however not sure how realistic this is with the two long very long days at end of trip with Northcliffe to Walpole and Walpole to Denmark has me second guessing. Cheers mike

Thanks for the feedback. I recorded it for when I ride the route again, just to remind myself. As you ride the trail you'll get into a routine and get fitter as the days go by. The Northcliffe to Walpole and Walpole to Denmark are quite a distance, but manageable if you're cycling fit and travelling light. I decided to break these sections with a hut, as I wanted the experience. But, If you're going to do Walpole to Denmark, I'd leave early. Walpole to Booner Mundak hut has some heavy climbing (Boxall Road...:), which can take some time to get through. Booner Mundak to Denmark starts very flat and you'll get through to the coast relatively quickly. Don't underestimate the coastal footpath from Elephant pools to Denmark, it's very up and down. The best thing you. can do between now and April is get cycling fit and think very carefully about what you're carrying. I'm very jealous and hope you have as much fun as I had and enjoy the ride.

Have just finished binge watching all your episodes really enjoyed them. Was nice to see a lot more of the trail with your extended videoing as a lot of Munda Biddi videos are relatively short. Liked your conclusions at the end with series of photos and comments. Did you book in advance your accommodation or just wing it when you rode into towns. At the time of your ride did you encounter many other riders using the huts or was it a bit of a lonesome trip?
Hopefully you get to ride many more adventures.

Thanks for the feedback. I found the same thing with other videos, in that they were relatively short and left me wanting more. I mostly booked a day in advance, or in the morning. Due to riding out of season I had no trouble finding places to stay. I met very few people on the track and only spent one night sharing a hut, but it suited me as I wanted the solitude. Few other rides planned in the near future, but i'd like to do this South to North. It's a great adventure..

Just finished watching the series. Thanks for recording and editing. I can only imagine it is time consuming. I have a few questions if you don't mind.
Early on in the ride you warned against not carrying enough water, but later on I think you said you sent your 3lt bladder home. Is that correct, and if so what would you recommend as a water carry capacity?
What navigation app were you using? I use Far Out a lot for hiking and I have downloaded the Munda Biddi map from them but interested to hear what you used and would you recommend your navigation choice?
Would you take a tent if you done the ride again? I have seen a few videos from people doing the ride in high season the huts were full, so they were lucky to have a tent.
You mentioned early that you regret bringing too much food? What would you suggest as a starting food amount?
    Thanks for sharing your ride.

Sorry about the slow response. With regards to water, yes I was going through about 3L a day. I was surprised how much i was drinking. I started with the bladder, but as I wanted to get weight off my back I sent the bladder home. I shifted to having two bottles of water and filling from tanks or taps as I past them. I popped a Katadyn Micro Pur Forte Purification tablet into the bottle for safety. I used a Garmin 530 just to track my stats, but predominately used the Munda Biddi app (although it doesn't list diversions) and it worked a treat.
I'd definitely take a tent again. When it was cold I'd put the outer cover on and it kept everything warm, and when it wasn't to cold I'd use the inner to keep flies and bugs away as I rested. A Sea to Summit insulated mat also helped with the cold. I'd say that your sleep set up is one of the most important things to get right. After a long days riding, you want a good nights sleep.
Food wise, it largely depends on how you ride the trail. I would load up in town each time i stopped with what I needed to get me to the next town. Each town is after your money and they're ready for you.
Hope some of that helps. Feel free to ask again. Just remember, it's meant to be fun. Don't worry about how quickly you ride it, or if you've got the right kit. Everyone is doing their own ride. I done the videos to remind myself of my ride and as a reference when i do it again. I'd strongly advise everyone to do their own little video of each day as its much better then photos. Good luck..

One more question do you think a single wheel Topeak trailer would make it.

    • @bikeandbiscuits6841

I would have loved to have done it over 4 - 6 weeks, or even longer. However for me work stopped play and i was on a schedule. There were so many different places that I could have stopped off, but time would not allow. I'll definitely do it again, probably South to North next year. I'd say that there was absolutely no reason why you couldn't do it with a trailer. There is a guy with a youtube channel called 'Mongrel Dog Productions' that done it with a trailer. I'd probably suggest trying some of the Mundaring/Jarrahdale sections to test it out. Good luck and if you want to ask anything else feel free.
