Munda Biddi 2022 Day 14
Day 14 - Denmark to Albany (The Final Day)
I was sad and excited to finish at the same time. I knew every turn of the pedal was bringing me closer to the end of this epic ride which that i'd been planning and thinking about so much.
Overall the trip was everything i'd thought it would be. It was hard and miserable at times, but i'd always be thinking how lucky I was to be able to experience riding through the forests of SW Australia.
I learnt that no matter how far the distance, if you just keep pedalling you'll get there in the end. It's also very important for me to have some time to myself and recharge.
Get out there and do it yourself, even if it's just a one or two day ride.
Thanks for ...

Munda Biddi Trail 2022 - Day 13

Day 13 - Booner Mundak - Denmark via Jinung Beigabup This was meant to be a hut to hut ride, but as the first section was flat and fast I made it to Jinung Beigabup hut by 1pm. I decided to push on and ride into Denmark for a room and a hot meal for the night. This ride was fantastic and had bush and coastal trails to mix things up. As my Gopro broke I didn't capture any footage along the coast...

Day 12 - Walpole - Booner Mundak via Valley of the Giants. A very nice days ride through some of the best forest WA has to offer. A very quiet and peaceful night in a great hut and everything I wanted the Munda Biddi trail to offer. Highly recommend this section for a weekends ride.

Day 10 - Northcliffe to Walpole via Kwokralup Beela Hut. A nice days ride with many hills and descents. As the day continued I felt myself getting more and more tired and grumpy. Walpole was able to offer me a good meal, beer and washing machine and my first glimpse of the coast.

Day 7 - Nannup to Manjimup via Donnelly River Village. Having made the most of an Airbnb in Nannup, it was a slightly late start to the day. A steady 20km incline road ride out of Nannup took me to Donnelly River Village where giant chickens and kangaroos wander the streets. A lovely ride through forests, which led me to get lost and eventually took me into the timber town of Manjimup.

I decided to cycle the Munda Biddi track from Mundaring to The Dell Car Park in preparation for my E2E in late 2022. Last time i rode this I got horribly lost as I tackled it with an old map. Hope this helps others thinking of riding the Munda Biddi in the future.

    Seeing you climb that rock reminded me of the time I went A over T on Sullivan Rock while hiking the Bibbi track, had a nicely bruised hip and some squashed little cow soft cheeses. All part of the experience.

    I’m nervous about heights but I did the Gloucester Tree about 20 years ago, I’m ok going up, hate the coming down bit, the reo rod steps work fine. My brother did it in 1965 and back then there were only wooden stakes wedged into cutouts around the tree. Did you have a steak burger at the pub, they used to be very tasty. Thanks for this series, it’s been enjoyable. I’ve done the Bibbulmun Track and now you’ve inspired me to do this one as well, just got to do a lot more training. Cheers

    Was it unusually rainy when you were there? If not, I do not understand why so many people set out in months with so much rain (seen a lot of rainy Munda Biddi video's). I have to admit I suffered from excessive heat (I rode this february, >42 celcius) but I think I prefer heat over rain.

    It seems to me that it is very cold telling from you wearing gloves and and thick jacket. People asked me "why do you go on the trail in february?"(like I did this year) but I might ask you "why are you going in september?". Too cold for me!

      Work and family commitments dictated when I was allowed to disappear for two weeks and play. If I had the choice, knowing what I know now....i'd go April or October. September was just cold at night and early morning, plus I had zero flies to deal with.

    Great job editing and of the ride!!. I am planning very similar to you north to south, solo in early April 23. Your videos are a great reference. I had planned on staying in towns each night however not sure how realistic this is with the two long very long days at end of trip with Northcliffe to Walpole and Walpole to Denmark has me second guessing. Cheers mike

    • @bikeandbiscuits6841
      @bikeandbiscuits6841 Год назад

      Thanks for the feedback. I recorded it for when I ride the route again, just to remind myself. As you ride the trail you'll get into a routine and get fitter as the days go by. The Northcliffe to Walpole and Walpole to Denmark are quite a distance, but manageable if you're cycling fit and travelling light. I decided to break these sections with a hut, as I wanted the experience. But, If you're going to do Walpole to Denmark, I'd leave early. Walpole to Booner Mundak hut has some heavy climbing (Boxall Road...:), which can take some time to get through. Booner Mundak to Denmark starts very flat and you'll get through to the coast relatively quickly. Don't underestimate the coastal footpath from Elephant pools to Denmark, it's very up and down. The best thing you. can do between now and April is get cycling fit and think very carefully about what you're carrying. I'm very jealous and hope you have as much fun as I had and enjoy the ride.

    Just finished watching the series. Thanks for recording and editing. I can only imagine it is time consuming. I have a few questions if you don't mind. Early on in the ride you warned against not carrying enough water, but later on I think you said you sent your 3lt bladder home. Is that correct, and if so what would you recommend as a water carry capacity? What navigation app were you using? I use Far Out a lot for hiking and I have downloaded the Munda Biddi map from them but interested to hear what you used and would you recommend your navigation choice? Would you take a tent if you done the ride again? I have seen a few videos from people doing the ride in high season the huts were full, so they were lucky to have a tent. You mentioned early that you regret bringing too much food? What would you suggest as a starting food amount? Thanks for sharing your ride.

    • @bikeandbiscuits6841
      @bikeandbiscuits6841 Год назад

      Sorry about the slow response. With regards to water, yes I was going through about 3L a day. I was surprised how much i was drinking. I started with the bladder, but as I wanted to get weight off my back I sent the bladder home. I shifted to having two bottles of water and filling from tanks or taps as I past them. I popped a Katadyn Micro Pur Forte Purification tablet into the bottle for safety. I used a Garmin 530 just to track my stats, but predominately used the Munda Biddi app (although it doesn't list diversions) and it worked a treat. I'd definitely take a tent again. When it was cold I'd put the outer cover on and it kept everything warm, and when it wasn't to cold I'd use the inner to keep flies and bugs away as I rested. A Sea to Summit insulated mat also helped with the cold. I'd say that your sleep set up is one of the most important things to get right. After a long days riding, you want a good nights sleep. Food wise, it largely depends on how you ride the trail. I would load up in town each time i stopped with what I needed to get me to the next town. Each town is after your money and they're ready for you. Hope some of that helps. Feel free to ask again. Just remember, it's meant to be fun. Don't worry about how quickly you ride it, or if you've got the right kit. Everyone is doing their own ride. I done the videos to remind myself of my ride and as a reference when i do it again. I'd strongly advise everyone to do their own little video of each day as its much better then photos. Good luck..

    Enjoying your videos. Playing on tackling the trail this year so the videos are great insight into the trail. I am Interested to know how the Pedelcel charger performed for you? I can see the dynamo being a issue in muddy conditions.

      Glad you enjoyed it. Preparing for the ride is half the fun of doing. the trail. I removed the Pedalcell when I got to Donnnybrook, simply as I didn't use it. I carried a charging block for emergencies, but most of the time I could charge at places I stopped out. I wouldn't recommend the Pedalcell at all if your riding in wet/muddy conditions. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions any time.

      I was curious because a touring bike rider (Alee Denham) I have been following mentioned that the dynamo probably won't won't work well for bike packing because you need to maintain around 12 km/hr for them to be effective. I have a bunch of battery packs that I use for back packing. Did any of the huts have solar panels and therefore charging stations? Thanks for the offer of advise, as I am sure I will have a few more questions as I get into the videos more. BTW, beware of ticking parcels sent from Manjimup

    Have just finished binge watching all your episodes really enjoyed them. Was nice to see a lot more of the trail with your extended videoing as a lot of Munda Biddi videos are relatively short. Liked your conclusions at the end with series of photos and comments. Did you book in advance your accommodation or just wing it when you rode into towns. At the time of your ride did you encounter many other riders using the huts or was it a bit of a lonesome trip? Hopefully you get to ride many more adventures.

    • @bikeandbiscuits6841

      Thanks for the feedback. I found the same thing with other videos, in that they were relatively short and left me wanting more. I mostly booked a day in advance, or in the morning. Due to riding out of season I had no trouble finding places to stay. I met very few people on the track and only spent one night sharing a hut, but it suited me as I wanted the solitude. Few other rides planned in the near future, but i'd like to do this South to North. It's a great adventure..

    • @bikeandbiscuits6841
      @bikeandbiscuits6841 Год назад

      I would have loved to have done it over 4 - 6 weeks, or even longer. However for me work stopped play and i was on a schedule. There were so many different places that I could have stopped off, but time would not allow. I'll definitely do it again, probably South to North next year. I'd say that there was absolutely no reason why you couldn't do it with a trailer. There is a guy with a youtube channel called 'Mongrel Dog Productions' that done it with a trailer. I'd probably suggest trying some of the Mundaring/Jarrahdale sections to test it out. Good luck and if you want to ask anything else feel free.

Talking about rivers, did you have any problems with mosquitoes looks like a lot of low lying water. What was the name of the place you stayed at in northcliffe
