He's not a new singer either. He was the frontman for the SteelDrivers, a bluegrass band, from 2007-2010 with 2 albums that reached #2. 2010. In 2010, He founded the Jompson Brothers, a Southern rock band, and opened for the Zac Brown Band.

I’m by no means a new country fan at all.. but Christ Stapleton could read me a Dr. Seuss book and I could die happy!
He’s not just a country singer. He’s been a songwriter for many years. He’s dabbled in bluegrass, blues rock music, as well as his stellar career as a solo artist in the country music genre. There’s a shit ton of songs he’s written for big name artists that have either topped, or gotten close to topping the country music charts. Dude is a once in a generation talent that we as music fans have the blessing and privilege to have experienced his greatness in real time. These types of artists are far and few between, and as such, are a rarity for us casual listeners to have the privilege to listen to. As a vocalist myself, I’d only dream of being just a small percentage of the amount of lyrical and vocal badass that this man is. I’ve tried for a few years now to emulate his vocal prowess in cover song recordings, but I humbly admit that I could never come close to his vocal ability. And for that reason, I’d never post any of my attempts to cover his songs. Lol. I’d just make a fool of myself if I posted those videos.

Chris has the respect of his peers because he’s written so many of their record breaking hits. He was a double gold hitting artist when he decided to start recording himself. Worked as a stage hand in the early/mid 80's memory fades me but what I remember MOST about that night is Garth. He put on his jumpsuit and unloaded the some of the truck, and even did some of the rigging himself. At first I didn't really even know who that guy was, he really hustled and out did us all... he was the real deal then, and still is!

Listened to it on a Fisher Price cassette player when I was probably 10 yrs old. Pure 80s, but such a great album and you gotta remember the orig songwriters - I think Chris and Garth would agree. One of Garth's inspirations for getting into music was Billy Joel, as many of you have mentioned, he has said that he is a huge fan. It was bloody brilliant to see Billy as a special guest many years ago at a Garth Brooks concert where they sang a couple of songs together, including this one, if you haven't seen it, find it, love it! Garth has also done a great version of To Make you Feel My Love, another song originally sung, commercially, by Billy Joel. Later that same year Bob Dylan, the song's writer, released it as Make You Feel My Love. And now, in 2022, it is a hit again (fourth time) for Adele. The song just keeps on giving.

I love Bluegrass, especially Bill Monroe. For me, I was born in Nashville, TN moved to FL with my parents in '71, went to Pine Ridge SD reservation for 2 yrs, came back home my cousin in Cherokee, NC talked me into school for my last yr, then went to Bacone Jr College to get my Associates Degree for Criminal Justice.. Then I faced real life worked what I went to school for & retired. However, as much as I listen and love your music, I don't fail to attend Powwows and help my people when I can. Listening to my elders gives me a world of knowledge no book can teach.

Chris did an amazing job with this song, just as he does with any song. He has a voice & style that's truly amazing, & like no other. I describe his voice & style as: A rock, blues, country, with a touch of a jazz & folk sound.
1 thing I'd love to see is Chris Stapleton & Jamie Johnson, get together & do a duet. I'm sure they would sound amazing together.
Also, one thing that the host forgot to mention is, the actual origin of this song & its history.
I'm 46, & I can remember being a teen starting high school when "The Piano Man" himself, Billy Joel, came out with this song; & that's back in 1989. It just so happens that, that is also the same year that a huge load of new country singers came on CMT, for the first time too: Alan Jackson, Clint Black, & many others, & 1 of those other artists was indeed, Garth Brooks.
As a huge fan of way too many to count & A music buff of all styles of music, I remember many times in interviews, Garth saying who his musical heroes were. And 1 of those heroes was Billy Joel. Garth said that he loved Billy Joel's music & his favorite song was, SHAMELESS, & he just had to cut that song. He loved it so much. It's actually written by Billy Joel, too, & I've never heard anyone cover this Billy Joel Song like Garth did. And for years, Garth's version was & still is, my most favorite cover of any Billy Joel song, ever! I never thought I'd ever hear anyone sing a Billy Joel & ace it like Garth did.
Now, you have Chris' version, which is honestly another totally different style again & belongs right there beside both Billy & Garth too. These 3 versions are honestly the best you'll ever hear of that song & all 3 have their own style too. No preference, either. Love all 3 equally. Now you know why Garth cried when he heard Chris sing it. Garth, covered a song of 1 of his hereos, & now Chris, decided to do the same with Garth & cover a song that a hero of his did. Pretty cool. 1,2,3.
If you don't know who Chris is, you haven't been listening to ANY music. He's a cross-over artist that's written COUNTLESS songs for other artist for decades. We can thank his late father for his first solo album.

He's actually been around for a long while. Been a fan of his for a long time, saw him in concert for one of my birthdays and let me tell you his performance tops a lot of artists I have seen. But unfortunately the video and audio you picked did him and his vocals absolutely no justice. If any of you have not gone to see him live my suggestion is to do so, you won't be disappointed.
He's IMO One of the top musicians that ever lived... I wish I could find a better quality version of him performing this song.

But this particular song was not written by either one, Jason. Shameless is a Billy Joel song. Billy admits when I saw him in concert in 2019, that he felt like he needed to sing it while in Texas, but he is proud of how Garth had a huge hit with it.
