I'm from Hindi medium, Ironically I used to explain questions to my English medium friends during early college days because they can only read questions in English but I could also understand the questions. English is a just language, a language is a tool to exchange thoughts, if we are able to exchange thoughts then language, its grammar, spellings and accuracy don't matter.

I am good at English but I feel we are losing our originality and our languages. So I like this move. But more than that I love that we are developing in the right direction and PM Modi and Sonam Wangchuk agree on this development
For all those who think removal of english is BAD!! You are a mental Slave of English !! It is scientific fact (unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000146632 ) that children learn in a better way/good comprehension skills, when they are taught in their Mother Language. Take example of France,Germany,Japan,China etc all these countries are developed nations and their education is in mother language. English should be taught only as "language" not as a medium of education. "ENGLISH DOES"NT DEFINE YOUR INTELLIGENCE, IT IS JUST A LANGUAGE" For Eg- In japan if u want to do Job, then it is compulsary for you to learn Japanese, otherwise u wont get a single Job, not even in a Petrol Station. Japan has'nt taught english , is it not a advanced nation?
Exactly. I feel embarrassed that even though I am fluent in Hindi and English. I can’t write in my mother tongue because it was never thought in my school. This is definitely a right move
I used to share this type of videos. But no one is interested. They don't understand that we are a developing nation. We can't blindly follow western and their joyful life. They are interested in comedy and roasting etc.
NEP 2020 is still years too late. We are years behind the level we should be in. The previous NEP was decades too late or nothing much significantly ever changed from the matriculation system. Even NEP 2020 makes ideal assumptions and expectations about everything. For the positive changes given there's also negative loopholes that can be exploited. Keep in mind that even previous system had positives that were not implemented thanks to corruption.

I studied my whole life in English But I can hardly read n write my mother tongue Telugu I feel illiterate when I have to read something on board or write instructions in Telugu. Here in Andhra Pradesh the government passed a bill recently that even in government schools English will be mode of instructions. Which will erase our mother tongue slowly. I'm vv happy with this new education policy which will protect our mother tongue. My kids are luckier than me. I m really excited to learn with them wht I lost my yrs ago
I too separated out my way from non technical reading/writing of books because after i got into job i lost the interest and confidence of knowing and understanding either of my mother tongue(Hindi) or English fluently. @@ravindramandal6207 Sanskrit may never have been the mother tongue of the larger population of ancient India. Language is used to discriminate between highly learned and wannabe learned. In the olden times it was SAnskrit. After transfer of power in 1947 it has been English. In between it was Urdu, pharsi. Let language evolve on its own. Personally, I think Hindi /Indian languages are easier to use and communicate while speaking, but english is easier to write. So what do we do?.
Sam My and GG : Up to the age of 5 yrs I could speak only Bhojpuri language. There after medium of instruction in English. From the age of 8yrs I had a bengali friend and with him I learned to speak and understand Bengali. I loved S.D. Burman songs in Bengali. As for hindi it came naturally to me. But your problem is writing. So every morning after early bath and during prayers make it a point to write one of the MANTRA of hinduism 3 times in your pooja room in your script. Keep changing the mantra every week, till you can write them perfectly.

absolutely. great to know your example. at the age where our minds is able to grasp concepts very easily, if we waste it on learning language (learning language isn't as cognitively complex) instead of channel and broadening natural curiosity to learn, then we lose a lot.
@MH 12 Proud Punekar true. but that can be gained in a diploma or even a degree later on. imagine if the curiosity was allowed to expand at the age 5-8yrs, if children were allowed to grasp simple concepts simply instead of making it more complex by putting it in a different language. would you have Tagore write Gitanjali in english? or even Harivanshrai Bachchan write Madhushala in english?
@MH 12 Proud Punekar well i really don't have any problems with giving English language the importance it deserves. however I think there's something more important, that is taking pride in who we are and what we do and doing it to the best of our ability. these days when google can translate languages, the gap of not understanding has been bridged so much. with the same example as above - Tagore got the Nobel for literature which he wrote in his own mother tongue. meaning, if it is impactful enough, original enough, if it makes us proud of having created something, it doesn't really matter.
My point is English is not so difficult or important in our life that we should start with it. Of course we can go for it but should not start with it. Moreover Stop glorifying it

People who say that starting with mother tongue makes your English weak... I studied in Bengali (my mother tongue) from class 1-12... Then when I went to college, I had no problem with English. It's just an another language. It's not a subject. Learn to see a language as a language. Then everything becomes easy. I am a successful researcher now with 20+ publications.. my mother tongue never stopped me from achieving my goal. Rather I was able to learn smoothly.
Regional languages In my opinion, a problem can come by teaching in regional languages that if a student is belongs to state like Tamilnadu, Kerala and Gujarat and his father is doing a job in Delhi and he also started living with his father so when Delhi schools will teach him in regional language which is Hindi. the student will definitely face the problem in learning or understanding because his regional is Tamil, Malayalam and Gujarati not Hindi.
But you tell me one question when a average student who learned Bengali medium school then he/she shifts English medium for higher education then he/she survives easily? You are a good student so you can do easily..

OM Sonam Wangchuk ji, this eye-opener is so beautifully and tactfully presented by you. Hope the 'still-I-am-an-Angrezi-slave' Indians see the light of truth, and, as you say, without losing this golden opportunity - of PRESERVING ourselves! You yourself stand as an example of what you speak - such knowledge, such diction and clarity of thought, as well as command over multiple languages - as you are established well in your mother tongue. Studying his basic Mathematics, and general science in his mother tongue Tamil, at the Rameshwaram Elementary School, a little boy rose to be an ace Space Scientist (with exclusively Indian Degrees!), and the most beloved President of India - Abdul Kalam ji's life and achievements speak more eloquently than 'slavery-ridden' counter-arguments! May you continue to inspire Indian minds to glory! Jai Hind!
Even while living in London, I was taught my Mother Tounge, Gujarati, since the age of 8, all the way to the age of 15. I could not forget, the knowledge they gave me. They put me at such a point in Gujarati, that I can understand and could possibly translate even the hard Gujarati Scriptures. You won't believe it, I am only 17 years old!
I know Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada. But I am using English for my work. As sir told it's a key, the more keys you have the more doors you can open.
I studied in Gujarati till 12th class and then did B.E. from leading Gujarat college. I believe I am doing good with my life. Not only me, my all classmates are going better with their life. There's no detail data but my experience suggest studying in mother tongue will improve common sense...
I have a Tibetan children homeschool in my neighbourhood , in Raiwala uttrakhand. It is very huge well built . And the students are awesome . They know a little Hindi .

An awesome description. We really struggled in our school days, even still now. Most astonishing fact is that, two people, belong to same language, even speak in English. As per my opinion, it's nothing but showing off or poor mannerism. The revised/much awaited education system is just an opening for the new horizons with ample opportunities. Best of luck for the lucky students. And thanks a ton for describing the USPs of new education system with UNPUTDOWNABLE examples.
Yes, I agree.. English is just a language.. which can be learnt later.. but mother tongue language is essential for children to learn concepts and other things in schools
I studied upto 10th class in my mother tongue and now I am an engineer. My wife also studied in her mother tongue and now she is a doctor. I feel proud that I learned most of concepts by my mother tongue only.
One of the problem of teaching students basic education in english is that most of the students are not fluent in english as well as their mother tongue .. Good Education Policy 👍👍👍
Ha ye baat to sahi h India mein sirf bolne k liye English official language h bt koi English bolta bhi nhi h...aur main bhi yahi maanti hu ki koi bhi baat humlog apni mother tongue mein jyada achhe se explain kr skte h
Aur mother tongue mein padhai ki h toh iska matlab ye nhi ki hume English nhi aati ...and Japan ko hi dekho itni developed country h...bt unko English nhi aati and agar aap unke saath kaam krna chahte ho to hume japanese sikhni padti h ya phir iterpreter ki jarurat padti h
Also there is no language of science and mathematics. Both the subject can be taught in any medium. These subjects are just based on ur common sense of understanding the things. For the students who r adopting PCM/PCB, there is no need to be good in languages. As JEE/NEET {PCM/B} are the most competitive exm for students they r just based on logic al approach.
Thnq so much Sir. But aapke videos se aapko dekh or smjh pana or bhi simple ho gya hai. Aapki bato se mujhe ghoda bohot seekhne ko mila hai. Or me phle thoda depression me rhta tha but aapki bato se mujhe sochne ko milta hai. Ki har cheez ko theek kiya ja skta hai. Or as always aaj bhi aap ki baate khi na khi mujhe bohot related thi. Meri local language Hindi hi rhi hai +2 tak. Or fir colg me jane par seedhe hi English ho gyi. Koi option hi nhi tha. Mere pass puchne ko bohot kuch tha but faculties mujhe smjhna hi nhi chahte the. Wo sbhi acchi English bol pate the. Or +90% students bhi. Jo 10 % the unhe jyada tar faculties na smjhne ki koshish karte the na hi management. Isi sab ke karn mere Graduation me percentage bhi kafi kam rhe. Or ye jyadatar colleges ke haal hain. In India there are various languages according to various states in india... Like in Uttar Pradesh mostly peoples use hindi ,in Karnataka State - Kannad , Maharashtra - Marthi , Andhra Pradesh - Telugu ,Kerla - Malyalam ... etc. So in starting classes at least class 4 - 5 the medium of instruction should be regional language after that switch to another language.

Thank you Mr. Wangchuk... This is the thing which I want to tell from a long time but the thing is that no one is ready to accept this. It is almost a torture to teach a child in a foreign language in primary classes. Learning becomes boring, dull and child loses interest in studies. Since it is difficult to comprehend the subject in foreign language, one tries to cram the things. Therefore, critical thinking also does not develop. New Education Policy has done a great favour to the children of India by giving priority to mother tongue as medium of instructions at least in primary classes. Mr Sonam Wangchuk deserves high appreciation for making and posting this video.

I am also example of this. I studied in marathi medium till 10 th. I came to science in 12 th and then Engineering in English. Now I am Doctorate in Engineering and working as a Researcher in University in UK. I thinks it is good to have concept in their own mother tongue. Then it can be easy to switch in language.

Let language evolve on its own. absolutely. great to know your example. at the age where our minds is able to grasp concepts very easily, if we waste it on learning language (learning language isn't as cognitively complex) instead of channel and broadening natural curiosity to learn, then we lose a lot.

Regional languages
In my opinion, a problem can come by teaching in regional languages that if a student is belongs to state like Tamilnadu, Kerala and Gujarat and his father is doing a job in Delhi and he also started living with his father so when Delhi schools will teach him in regional language which is Hindi. the student will definitely face the problem in learning or understanding because his regional is Tamil, Malayalam and Gujarati not Hindi.

Sonam Wangchuk ji, this eye-opener is so beautifully and tactfully presented by you.

I have been pointing on the same data from last 10-12 years. People used to laugh on my logic.
Sir, you are absolutely right, if children start studying English in class one itself and they are not taught about their mother tongue, then they will not have any knowledge about their mother tongue.😮😮
After listening this and analysed some data, my mind is changed ... Mother's tounge should be medium of instruction. 😊
Which mother tongue
In India there are various languages according to various states in india... Like in Uttar Pradesh mostly peoples use hindi ,in Karnataka State - Kannad , Maharashtra - Marthi , Andhra Pradesh - Telugu ,Kerla - Malyalam ... etc. So in starting classes at least class 4 - 5 the medium of instruction should be regional language after that switch to another language.

Thank you Mr. Wangchuk...
This is the thing which I want to tell from a long time but the thing is that no one is ready to accept this. As you have told that our Indian private schools should lead the change by introducing local or mother tongue as medium of education at primary level, but most of the schools are not ready to accept this... I am totally agreed with you what you said...
always with the most logical and clear perspective. Thank you!
I have received my education in my regional language "Odia". I'm today equally successful as my peers who had received their education in English language.
@@kaanramatt37 will you be able to understand this comment if he wrote it in Odia
@@kaanramatt37 yes this is what this education policy and mr sonam says. Even if you study in odia you are capable enough to communicate in english. Studying in mother tongue doesn't mean you can't speak other languages.
@@kaanramatt37 I never said I'm against the English language....but respecting my mother tongue and my regional language is of utmost importance to me. Had I written my comments in my mother tongue..... hardly any of the viewers would have got that. To achieve a certain level of education, now a days English language is required....no one can argue against that. So no hard feelings.
@@KK-ci1dj but learning a new language is easy until u r in late 20. After that it becomes difficult.
@@sameerhaldar8289 agree. That's why it's been advocated to keep eng as secondary language and middle school onwards children get education in english too as mr wangchuk said. @Mo 'mo Both on parents are not much educated and whatever they learned was in mother tongue but they still sent us to best english medium school in town. Now, me and my sister both are engineers, one settled in USA other in India and both doing good with like. Language makes no difference at all.
My cousin brother studied in Hindi medium till class 12th and now he has graduated from IIT and also done PG from IIT in aerospace engineering and here I have studied in English medium from nursery and still trying to even crack engineering entrance exams.(I am somewhat average or above average in studies) I have experienced all these things. Wah....thanks for making video on importance of mother tongue.....superb video.....gr8 efforts
Absolutely correct . I am an example to support this thing. I made my studies in Marathi upto 8 th class along with hindi as a second language from 5th , then from 8th I switched to semi-english in which science math were in english upto 10th .
Now I am a MBBS doctor n can speak n understand english better than my english medium school frnds .

Why are you typing in English then
More importantly we need a very excellent teachers to help the children over a new system sir..
I had a friend who was a genius in maths. We usually spoke in hindi and he used to explain us all the concepts of maths in Hindi. I'm telling you he was even better than our teachers. But he suffered in exams cuz he was weak in English and was not able to explain the equation properly he was then termed as a dumb by our teachers and the society and not even got a good college to study in.
I know there are thousands of such gems hidden in our country and if they all will be able to write and learn in their language then there would be no stopping for them and India.

While every student from anandi devi sarasvati vidya mandir ultimately gets employment after completion of their studies and also they learn better english in collges and they also have a very good handwriting.

This is a great thing done by this govt. as my studies time I felt if our courses in my mother tongue it more helpful to my studies and I may more successful in life
I am also example of this.
I studied in marathi medium till 10 th.
I came to science in 12 th and then Engineering in English. Now I am Doctorate in Engineering and working as a Researcher in University in UK.
I thinks it is good to have concept in their own mother tongue. Then it can be easy to switch in language.
A student with its early age has to struggle with language like english then for the concepts, as the language at home and at schools are different.
