Swamp Gump Harpy I have an 04 TRX 450 R and it took me a long time to complete, I am a truck driver and I am gone for long periods of time. I wish somehow you could see my project, I’m new at doing all of the stuff on RUclips so I’m not sure how I could show you my project.
Swamp Gump Harpy I don’t have an email account at this moment because I have an Apple phone and it crashed recently and I forgot my password to my account. Here is my cell phone number 269-363-2201, I will be glad to send you all of the pictures of my project
Swamp Gump Harpy I’m not completely finished with it, I still have plans for the engine and powder coating the frame. That’s about all I have left to do on this thing
Glad to see you like the foot pegs. If you ever have any questions with the 400ex motor or really any motor Jeff Snure is the guy to talk to. And if you haven’t already installed some Headstuds for your motor I recommend the Gt Thunder headstuds he makes.
Watch your head studs. I would recommend putting some arp head studs in it. The 440 kits love spitting out head gaskets. Love the build man. I’m currently working on rebuilding a ktm 505sx
It has head studs. Before, it was blowing head gaskets about every other tank of fuel! 😣 We really haven’t gone into detail about what’s been done to this quad, but we should some time. Would make a long video.
ryan marcum Man, you keep looking out. It takes a village to keep these relics running like they ought to. Comments like yours is how we’ve learned. Well, that and thousands of hours of hands on. Thanks for adding some good pointers.
That's a beautiful quad. Except for you have everything but the guards that go on your foot pegs to keep your feet from getting run over when you go off a jump. Looks good but I'd still beat you in a race with my 400ex lol
What wheel and tire size are you running for front and rear. Just purchased a 400 myself for a renovation project and been conflicted with sizes to run.
I am restoring my 2001. I installed the big bore 440 back around 05. It clocked 113 on the gps. Been setting since 13. Im hoping to somehow get to 120 this time 😆
Stock CDI on a carbureted 400. Make your fuel adjustments at the carb with jetting and your air flow adjustments with the intake and exhaust. Then dial in your needle and let the stock CDI alone.
All the people that has a 400ex has no idea how hot they run let alone if you do any hill climbing but if I was you I’d get them jugs out of the front of the motor so that thing can get some air and if you don’t have a lazor temp reader you should get one so you’ll see why I say get rid of them jugs. No bearings last like factory Honda and breaks to as far as I’m concerned
It’s whatever they had at the parts store. Nothing fancy, and it comes in either bronze or black. If it’s properly installed with high-heat ceramic paint behind it, and treated with layers of ceramic paint after it’s installed, it’s supposed to reduce engine heat exposure significantly. Seems to last about two years. I like it fairly well because it’s functional, but wear gloves. Trust me on that.
Gabriel Lopez No problem! Those were bought 4 years ago when we did the first build. They looked awesome as a full set, and were better than most shocks I’ve seen. Unfortunately, they’re not made any longer. Had a lot of folks ask me about them!
These Plastics are made by Maier, and were purchased from ZMP Performance. You can get the 400ex plastics with or without the stock headlight cut-out. These are racing plastics, so they are without the cut-out. The color is called electric blue.
Yes it does. Of course, 400EX’s all have noisy valve trains, but it’s likely that the valves weren’t put back stock after brake-in on this motor. The sound could also be pre-ignition from some older fuel that we were running that day.
There's no way in f****** hell that's that's a 440 Big bore kit that only goes 75 miles an hour I updated it to stage 2 air cleaner cam jet kit complete exhaust added a 2 oil cooler primary chain 15 tooth sprocket in the front 36 in the rear my 2004 stock bore wisco jug and piston 10.5:1 compression ratio I get my 400ex to 85mph according to the GPS speedometer I added to my bike which is supposed to be more accurate then every speedometer on every
If you’ll click the drop down menu, the mods on this are itemized with prices. The final price is north of $12,000. We admit that this is truly insane, but lots of fun! 😄 A build exactly like this could be had for around $9,000 - $10,000 if you’re experienced, and can perform the engine work yourself.
Running a 36 on the back will kill your bottom end and over all torque and you would think it would help the top end but I can tell you the bike would have to have 50 h/p to be able to pull a 14/36. I’d bet 100 bucks that it will be faster with a 14/37 cause there’s more of a chance that it will have the power to pull it. Try it and see
Idk why but that darn piece of cardboard that is in your hat becaudr you didn't take it out before wearing it the first time... is driving me nuts lol. I'm just giving you a hard time and I'm kidding. But beautiful build. I've rebuilt a few 400s engines and nothing ever broke afterwards. Maybe you're doing something wrong or need your torque wrench calibrated lol.
We were having it rebuilt at shops. Finally shipped the motor to California to have it built right, and still not good on the top end, so we just rebuilt it ourselves. It's all good now. If it makes you feel better, the hat got sat on.
Not a huge fan of this build really I’d want nerf bars carbon fiber plastics and I’d build the engine one good time not 3 separate times 😂😂😂😂😂 and buy some of the 450stuff instead of stock Honda stuff what’s the point? I’d rather buy better stuff and get better performance stuff rather then stock Honda stuff that’s just the same old stuff but that’s me 🤷🏻♂️
And if I were your parents I would not have made you fat with big ears. Stock Honda parts like... what, the brakes?? Go build one if you like, in the mean time, soft ball your bullish!t right in, kid, and I’ll hit it out of the park every time.
Now that’s a baller setup right there, I love it, I have a similar setup on my 2013 400x
Not too shabby, best one I’ve seen yet
Thanks, John. We are really happy with how it turned out.

How you get the blue plastics
My.440 with stage 3 hotcams and a 440 kit and a jetted out carb will do abour 93
Carter Funair my raptor does 107mph
#flexin
My nikes will do 20 mph for 3 seconds 👊🏻
on stock sprockets?
Could be faster on dirt have you tried that in a straight way trail or sum

Hard pass on guards for a trail quad
Hi sir, may I know what brand did you used for that Big bore kit? And where you bought it? Thank you sir!
It has since been rebuilt to a 416, all JE.
14 sproket front is OEM tho the rear seems to have been an aftermarket ratio
14 & 36
@@swampgumpharpy7977 14 and 39 is stock which goes to 60MPH or 100KM here in Canada what a big difference 3 teeth makes an extra 15MPH
Stock on the newer models is 14 and 39. But on the 99-07(I think those years are right) the stock sprockets are 15 and 38.
What the jets on the carb
What wheel and tire size are you running for front and rear. Just purchased a 400 myself for a renovation project and been conflicted with sizes to run.
9” back (5+3 offset), and 10” front. Good luck, pal.
I'll smoke that on video and I have a 440 with a stage 3..I rock a 450r LMFAO big difference
My dad had a 400 E X that did 110 mph when it was bored out to 440 and it was a 2001
That's really awesome! That's a lot of horse power along with proper gearing. I wonder what the torque was on trails with it geared that high.

$30 trans/engine oil cooler kit from any auto parts store and adding it inline before or after the stock oil cooler and it never over heats.
What are the aluminum shields kinda by the shocks called?
Those are air shrouds, made by CFM.
What exhaust wrap is that, and do you recommend it?

how many hp for this quad
Only dyno around isn't a place where we do business. Probably will never know.
Do you remember where you got the shock covers?
It doesn’t have covers. These are just bare fox shocks.

Why run no nerf bars?
Because I don’t like them.
Do you fix them up for others. I need mine bored?
We don’t fix these up for others. CT Racing is the place we would recommend for that.
