    Simply put:
    1. Know your WHY. What outcome do you want to gain from the resources? What's the end goal?
    2. Learn the fundamental concepts. This is first principles thinking. You can branch out from there.
    3. Create frameworks. These are the shortcuts. Once you understand something, put them into a workable framework that you cam use later on without much mental effort.

Great video contents. Please metalearn some audio basics so your voice will be audible and people can understand what you say.
It's not you. It's your setup. It's crucial for the same reason why a great movie with bad sound is still gonna be a bad movie.
    1. Use 50-80 dollar condensator usb microphone instead of a built in laptop mic.
    2. Alternative. Use your phone memo recorder while recording this video. Sync that audio to the video. Mute the original audio.
    3. Use a low cut EQ on your final video.
    Metalearning bonus tip.
    1. Rotate your video setup for 90 degrees to use that window light.
    2. Lock your exposure.
    3. Lock your white balance.
    4. Fix the acoustics in your room using curtains, acoustic absorbing objects, plants, paintings, ceiling panels.
Result 10 x audio/video improvement , free expert advice because your message is great.

Scott took 3 months to learn SOME Spanish, SOME Korean, and SOME Portuguese. He has said that he is conversational, but fluent is a different story, and it also depends on your definition of fluency. I sometimes feel that this sort of messages cause more harm than good. Someone sees this and they read the book and they think they can learn fluent Spanish in three months. Then, three months go by and they realise that they did not achieve what the video/book told them they could achieve. As a result, they end up blaming themselves, and thinking they are no good because they failed at doing what someone else is claiming to have done, and in many cases quitting afterwards or falling into a bit of depression. However, they fail to see the progress they made, and that they have actually moved forward in their learning journey. The main thing is too keep learning, and if it takes you a bit longer than others, don't worry about it, enjoy the journey!

A great video as always. As a 62-year-old polymath, I'm feeling pleased with myself as this has been my method for 40 years without thinking it through. It has always seemed natural. When I see my friends, they will cut me off at the knees and bring me back down to Earth, they always do. I'm now wondering what other things I take for granted that I should be unpicking. Love and light.

    • @VickyZhaoBEEAMP

@@razaabbas6605 Off the top of my head here are the things I have studied and still study. Yoga for breath control, meditation, music, trombone, piano, bass guitar, music composition and theory, music production (I brought my first synth in the 80s), Lots of maths including digital signal processing, physics, chemistry, biology, health, fungi and herbs, electronics and microprocessor design (my degree), combat (1st career), switched mode controller design (2nd career), software development (3rd career), Fantasy novel writing (new career), magic (I'm a witch and alchemist - the transmutation of the self into spiritual gold), the martial arts (from age 11). And now I'm studying LLMs and AI and how to leverage it. I'm rubbish with foreign languages and drawing. I hope this helps.

      @razaabbas6605 Год назад +2

@@mageprometheus damn, I wish to achieve something close to this but it seems overwhelming, I've just started with software development(Web development to be precise). Once I'm done with that I intend to move into drawing. But do you think polymaths can become world class in one or more of the things they do?

    • @mageprometheus
      @mageprometheus Год назад +2

@@razaabbas6605 Of course, anyone can become world-class. The keys are studying every day, a great set of mentors over the years, quality feedback, the practical application of what you learn, and understanding things like the circle of competence. See this video "The Mental Model of High Achievers" by Sam Matla. I saw it yesterday and it's a good intro.

    Part: 00:00
    Q1: What is metalearning?
A1: Metalearning is a framework for learning how to learn, which involves self-directed learning and finding the right resources to achieve one's learning goals efficiently.
Example: Metalearning involves identifying the most effective way to learn a new skill or subject, such as identifying the best resources and techniques to use, rather than relying on traditional textbook-based learning.
Q2: How is metalearning different from traditional learning methods?
A2: Metalearning is different from traditional learning methods as it involves self-directed learning and finding the most effective resources to achieve one's learning goals efficiently, rather than relying on textbooks and exercises.
Example: Traditional learning methods involve using textbooks and exercises to learn new skills or subjects, whereas metalearning involves finding the most effective way to learn, such as by using online resources, mentors, or other learning techniques.
Q3: What is the key to successful metalearning?
A3: The key to successful metalearning is to learn how to learn and extract frameworks from previous learning experiences to apply them to new subjects or skills.
Example: Successful metalearning involves learning from previous learning experiences to identify effective frameworks and techniques that can be applied to new learning experiences, rather than starting from scratch each time.
Q4: Why is it important to understand the "why" of learning when it comes to metalearning?
A4: Understanding the "why" of learning is important in metalearning as it helps identify the practical or intrinsic reasons for learning a new skill or subject, which can guide the learning process and help manage expectations.
Example: Understanding the "why" of learning can help someone identify their true motivations for learning a new skill, such as wanting to become a professional or simply wanting to satisfy their curiosity, which can help guide their learning process and help them set realistic goals.
Q5: How can metalearning be applied to different learning scenarios?
A5: Metalearning can be applied to different learning scenarios by identifying effective learning frameworks and techniques from previous experiences and applying them to new subjects or skills.
Example: Metalearning can be applied to learning a new language by identifying effective techniques and resources, such as using flashcards, watching videos, or practicing with a native speaker, and applying them to new languages to learn them more efficiently.
    Part: 03:18
Q1: What is meta learning? A1: Meta learning is the process of learning how to learn. It involves understanding the concepts, facts, and procedures needed to achieve a specific outcome and finding the most effective ways to learn them.
Example: Meta learning is like learning how to fish instead of just being given a fish. It teaches you the skills and knowledge you need to catch fish on your own, which can be applied to different types of fish and fishing scenarios.
Q2: Why is it important to define what you want to achieve in meta learning? A2: Defining what you want to achieve in meta learning helps you focus on the things that truly matter. It allows you to determine the concepts you need to understand, the facts you need to memorize, and the procedures you need to practice to achieve your desired outcome.
Example: If you want to learn how to play the guitar, defining your goal can help you determine the chords and scales you need to understand, the songs you need to memorize, and the practice routines you need to follow.
Q3: How can frameworks help in meta learning? A3: Frameworks provide shortcuts and mental models that can help you develop your memory and understanding of a subject. They allow you to go beyond simply memorizing facts and help you understand the underlying concepts and principles.
Example: A framework for learning mathematics might include understanding the concepts of addition and multiplication, and how they relate to each other. This can help you solve more complex math problems by building on these fundamental concepts.
Q4: What is benchmarking in meta learning? A4: Benchmarking involves figuring out the most common path to achieve a desired outcome. It allows you to identify the steps and resources needed to achieve your goal and can be used to guide your learning process.
Example: If you want to become a doctor, benchmarking might involve researching the education and training requirements, such as completing a medical degree and residency program.
Q5: How can exploration and experimentation help in meta learning? A5: Exploration and experimentation allow you to piece together different resources and find the most effective ways to learn a subject. It allows you to try different methods and techniques and find what works best for you.
Example: If you want to learn a new language, exploration and experimentation might involve trying different language learning apps, attending language classes, and speaking with native speakers to find the most effective ways to learn and practice the language.
    Part: 06:46
Q1: What is the concept of meta learning? A1: Meta learning is the process of learning how to learn, including identifying the best resources, prioritizing and excluding resources, and self-directing learning paths.
Q2: What is the benefit of emphasizing certain resources in meta learning? A2: By emphasizing certain resources in meta learning, individuals can identify the most relevant and useful resources to help them learn more efficiently and effectively.
Q3: When is it okay to exclude certain resources in meta learning? A3: It is okay to exclude certain resources in meta learning when they are not as relevant or helpful as anticipated or if they are difficult to absorb.
Q4: How is meta learning different from traditional learning? A4: Meta learning emphasizes self-directed thinking and the ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn, rather than following a predetermined learning path.
Q5: What is the purpose of the framework thinking video mentioned in the transcript? A5: The framework thinking video provides a framework for adding more tools and resources to an individual's cognitive toolbox, helping them to become better at meta learning.

I recently discovered your channel and it's really amazing to see your content. You really have that depth in your knowledge.
I have one question for you. According to you what is the best strategy to learn something from a video course?
    1) You go through all of them at once and once you get familiar with the topic and know what all things you can do you start working on the project and whenever you need to understand anything you re-visit the lectures or reference material?
    2) You study only a small part of what is taught in the lectures and then try to implement it in your project.
    3) You study a small part and then try to replicate exactly what the instructor has done.

Great video! I think where I get stuck is knowing when to go for breadth versus depth (prioritizing or emphasizing/excluding), and when to decide that I know enough about one area and reach to new material or double down on fundamentals.
For example, let's say I want to get better at playing piano to help me write music. Should I learn classical or jazz or another style, and when do I take time to apply that to my own writing? Maybe I'm already pretty good at one style- should I get even better at it since it's my strength or start working on a weaker area? Also, each style has its own deeply rich knowledge tree, and at some point I have to decide that going any further would perhaps be less beneficial than spending energy on another area to help with writing music (like singing or writing lyrics).
I want to say that maybe applying the 20/80 rule can help here, but again I run into this recursive problem of applying the rule all the way down the tree 😅
