tbh the best person to watch this with is a person that _thinks_ they’re so above it all & not “immature”. I watched this with my sister (who is one of _those_ people) & she kept acting like she wasn’t going to enjoy it. About halfway through the movie she started to crack and started snickering at the jokes. By the end she was pretty much completely opened up. It was awesome. Even when she was denouncing it before, she really loved the movie. Sometimes it really is good to take a step back & enjoy just being a kid again :)

I kept going on about how cringy the movie looked, and how it wasn’t going to be as good as the books, but when me and my friend watched it, we were laughing all the way through. It was legitimately an amazing movie, and it also helped me break out of my pretentious phase, so yeah, I love it.

I enjoyed going to the library because of this, and I actually got into manga because of it. Now I'm a huge fan of the arts, I've gotten really good at writing stories, and I've somehow remembered how to become a kid again. Thank you Dav Pilkey. Without your books that I read as a kid, I would never have been a kid. Thank you.
I loved reading these but my school library wouldn't let me check them out after I got to a certain grade because "My reading level was too high." God I hate that logic.. I was in like 4th grade let me read Captain Underpants!

*List of underrated DreamWorks Animation films* The 2D DreamWorks movies (especially Joseph: King of Dreams) Puss in Boots Shrek 2 (WatchMojo explained why Shrek 2, as beloved as it is, is put on its list of most underrated DreamWorks Animation movies, which Shark Tale and Trolls 1 were forced to be on because WatchMojo is known for trying too hard to make mean-spirited movies look like masterpieces. But here’s my take. Please go see Cartoon Palooza’s review of Shrek 2 to see that not only do people treat it like Schaffrillas Productions and the majority of people gave it *way* more praise than deserved, then you’ll get that unfortunately, not everyone wants to get why people like Shrek 2) Kung Fu Panda trilogy (the second to the most extent) Puss in Boots The Aardman movies The Madagascar franchise Megamind How to Train Your Dragon (let alone its sequels) Rise of the Guardians Captain Underpants: The First (, Second and Third if it were a film series and one of DreamWorks Animation’s great trilogies besides Madagascar, KFP and HTTYD) Epic Movie Shrek 1 (surely, a lot of people like it, but at the same time, there are people like Nostalgia Critic and PhantomStrider that compare it to its oldest sequel) Over the Hedge Shrek Forever After (Schaff wasn’t joking when he made “Why Shrek Forever After is an Underrated Gem”. It has the problems people complain about for themselves to consider it if mixed quality at best, but I can also remember why I used to like it as a kid watching Schaff’s video) Puss in Boots
Remember when ElectricDragon505 put the 2D DreamWorks Animation quadrilogy (I mean, pentalogy, I’d regarding Joseph: King of Dreams) in #6 on his list of “Top 10 Underrated Animated Films”?? Welp, one thing to question: Didn’t AniMat day it was closer to good-to-great (when he reviewed it) than on par with the rest of the hand-drawn DreamWorks Animation films about a year before he made “Top 10 Underrated Animated Films”??????? And why would Joseph: King of Dreams not share the same spot??????? Can’t wait for AniMat to review Joseph: King of Dreams on AniMat’s Classic Reviews, sometime this decade!
Alfred Medina Personally, I do find Over the Hedge flawed but overall likeable, but the reason why i put it in the category of the several DreamWorks Animation films hat don’t always get the credit they deserve is because some people just look for things to complain about in an above-average movie in favour of ones that get more praise than deserved like the live-action Disney remakes (excluding The Jungle Book).
Being in my early twenties, these movie and Mr. Pilkey’s masterpiece books saved my life, As I grew older and started to get into the horrors of adulthood, his creations reminded me one valuable lesson , never let your inner child or creativity die within inside, it is always ok to express it.
Something you skipped over was Krupps face when he finally came back to his senses, you could see the concern in Krupps eyes when he saw the other kids in pain, I liked this because it showed a little more depth into a character that was meant only to be a grouchy old man. I know it's subtle and I 'm a little late on this but I really like that image of Krupp, completely silent in the rain, no constant yelling, just pure anger.
Might as well share this life-changing story about how my family stopped going to church because of me reading Captain Underpants here. So I was but a fourth grader, and every Sunday my family would go to a family-style church. It was styled like a Christian YMCA, if that makes sense. My parents would go to an adult seminar, and me and my little sister would go to a children’s seminar, and that was that. There was a ‘band’ that would play for the kids, Christian songs and stuff, before actually praying. I never really was into church, so I started bringing captain underpants books in to read during the seminar. I got away with just reading during the seminars a couple of times, but I would constantly talk to the kids next to me about how funny these books were. They overheard me and the books were taken a few times. So my little brain formulated a plan. “How do I keep reading captain underpants?” “Idk, Bring another one” So that I did. I would hide 2 captain underpants books in my shirt, at church, and read them during the seminar. When they got taken away? Fuck you. I flip open my shirt and bada bing bada boom, another one for my pleasure. This *actually fucking worked* for about 3-4 WEEKS before the administration straight up told my parents that I couldn’t keep going to their thing. Probably because they were terrified of how many books I had. Where will he hide the next one? Up His ass? Who knows? And yeah. That’s the story of how my captain underpants antics landed me in some hot water with the church. I wonder if god looks down on me now... *“You did good, son. You tried, and you tried damn well”* When I go to heaven, you bet your ass I’m bringing Captain Underpants: The Revenge of the Spectacular Lunch Ladies

I suffer from ADHD and behavioral issues. As a kid, I would love to do the flip-o-ramas with my older sister, who taught me how to read, when I watched this movie it brought back a sense of innocence and happiness I thought had left me so long ago as I was dealing with demons at that time. For once, I wasn't being yelled at, I was just watching what the dream of childhood was. Not caring what people thought, letting your imagination run wild and, of course, having the coolest hideout (mine was a closet ironically). I wish I could go back to that time
IKR, it’s one of the greatest DreamWorks films (even by their standards), like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Minority Report, the Aardman movies, the The Prince of Egypt duology, War of the Worlds, Dreamgirls (no pun intended, but what’s next? Is DeeamWorks gonna make a Dream *insert plural word here* series later in the new decade or at the 2030s at the earliest? 😹😹😹), Galaxy Quest, The Road to El Dorado, Cast Away, Lincoln, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2, American Beauty, Saving Private Ryan, et cetera et cetera.
I almost found myself crying by the end of this video. I am no longer a child and yet everything you said makes me of think of when I was, and it spoke to me in a way few things have recently. It is truly remarkable how personal this video was for you, but also how personal you made it for the viewer, and for that I commend you.
remembering as a kid. not having your best friend in the same class as you is devastating. so its actually a realistic rendition of what it would feel like for a kid. It's like the creators actually know how kids feel
God that last bit really nit home for me because as someone who loves making cartoons and comics and told over and over not to get distracted by childish cartoons it made me really sad. Especially since I didn't do the best at concentrating on my work as much as I wanted to get the grades it always felt like I was lagging behind.
Dude, I was crying through the entire vid. Captain Underpants was my childhood summed up, I've had a really hard time trying to keep it together these days and I need to thank you for doing this video on something that meant alot to me and to you too.
A small thing I will always love from both the books and the movie is that Krupp would have had to read Captain Underpants to become Captain Underpants and part of me likes to think that in his cold heart he did find some enjoyment with a character that was kinda based on him being a hero to kids. Also being a kid who read all the books, you'd think it'd be weird to have Krupp fall in love and what not and give him the lunch lady. But it was very nice especially as an adult now. As a kid you never think about what the adults around you are going through until you start to actually understand their frustrations and you just want what's best for them. So I'm glad Krupp got some kind of a happy ending too.

News: Florida man makes me cry with a Captain Underpants video.
When I was in elementary school my best friend and I would read captain underpants all the time. Unfortunately our school banned these books, and my parents made me stop reading them. So my best friend and I would sneak some copy's onto the playground and we read them in secret during recess. I really miss those days, when we would just sit there reading the books, and also be so nervous that a teacher would find us reading them. We were the best of friends, unfortunately I was a military child, so I had to move the next year and I wouldn't go to the same school as him. But before I moved away, he actually stopped by my house and gave me a few copy's of the books because he knew I was not aloud to read them. I still have all those book sitting on my shelf to this very day. (:

I watched this with my sister (who is one of _those_ people) & she kept acting like she wasn’t going to enjoy it. About halfway through the movie she started to crack and started snickering at the jokes. By the end she was pretty much completely opened up. It was awesome.
Even when she was denouncing it before, she really loved the movie. Sometimes it really is good to take a step back & enjoy just being a kid again :)
That's adorable... Thank you for sharing this story. I hope your sister's doing well.
When I was this movie first released, me and my friend went to go watch it opening day. I kept going on about how cringy the movie looked, and how it wasn’t going to be as good as the books, but when me and my friend watched it, we were laughing all the way through. It was legitimately an amazing movie, and it also helped me break out of my pretentious phase, so yeah, I love it.

But here’s my take. Please go see Cartoon Palooza’s review of Shrek 2 to see that not only do people treat it like Schaffrillas Productions and the majority of people gave it *way* more praise than deserved, then you’ll get that unfortunately, not everyone wants to get why people like Shrek 2)

Over the Hedge
Shrek Forever After (Schaff wasn’t joking when he made “Why Shrek Forever After is an Underrated Gem”. It has the problems people complain about for themselves to consider it if mixed quality at best, but I can also remember why I used to like it as a kid watching Schaff’s video)

“How do I keep reading captain underpants?”
“Idk, Bring another one”
So that I did.

Okay now this is epic

Dav's teacher: You can't spend the rest of your life making silly books
Dav now: *laughs in successful books*
Honestly, reading that as a kid inspired me to keep pursuing art and writing. Thanks Dav.
Seriously, I’d love to see Dav’s pooplic school teacher try to make a book! If she did, there’s a perfect chance it would fail in terms of quality and sales.
_finally, someone who actually acknowledges this movie._
I agree too it’s the best movie when he said what it was really for I almost cried because I never thought that was what it was really for I just thought that it was made for fun
It's true.
Yes
Ironically the author of the books had a large part in this movie's direction. Seriously, Dav Pilkey is listed as one of the the main directors.
Sir JJ How is it ironic, though? It really makes sense, without him I really don’t think this movie would be as weirdly charming at all
Giovanni 336 Not sure if he did, but I don’t know the cast so I can’t say if he for sure didn’t.
@@bluerious5475 exactly, with Dav, the movie wouldn't have been as great
@Giovanni 336 Dav is only listed as a main director
The sooner a sequel comes out, the better
