Tank Chats #16 Panther | The Tank Museum
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 17 мар 2016
- Tank Chats playlist • Tank Chats from The Ta... Probably the best German tank design of the Second World War.
The Panther was not as thickly armoured, nor as heavily armed, as tanks such as the Tiger but was probably a much more balanced design. It was one of the fastest German tanks, highly manoeuvrable and equipped with an accurate weapon. Its worst defect was a propensity to catch fire if the engine backfired.

We need a 20 min version of this
Yeah this needs to be way longer
Yeah, we need someone who isn’t the chieftain doing an in depth look I into it
I agree
20 millimeter
Indeed we do, it's an absolute engineering masterpiece in my opinion....... even though it had many teething issues through manufacturing problems. This is what happens when you rush a vehicle into service without A) a proper testing and evaluation process and B) yet again being over engineered.
Still a beautiful tank though, they obviously looked at certain qualities of the T-34.
“We all get excited about late World War 2 German camouflage schemes...”
Yes, yes we do
I know I do
Me
Very true !
I read this just as he said it...weird.
That paint scheme looks terrible.
Dear Tank Museum, 4 minutes is not enough for the Panther. Please make a 30 minute special talking about ausf D, A, G; how it was inspired by T-34 the Daimler prototype; introduction if side skirts, conversion to Jagdpanther; performance in the East and in the West fronts etc!
one of my favorite tanks
Sneaky Jagdpanther at 4:16 :P
Nice catch :-)
Arto979 always great to see
of course!
pssht he was undercover :D
There are two.
Imagine that. A paint scheme that saves paint, is effective, and frankly looks cool as hell? Fantastic.
Dammit! IT IS BEAUTIFUL, isn't it?... Gotta give it to them!
Too bad the Transmission and Final drive sucked
To paraphrase rockstar Lemmy Killmister "it's not my fault the bad guys look so cool"
I believe the French army used some Panthers after the war.
true
@MGTOW Republic of The Philippines really in iraq us 1991 panther tank still used??
faydu laksono Stugs III’s, Panzer IV’s and Jagdpanzer IV’s was used by syria in 67 during the 6 day war
so it wouldn’t be surprising if Iraq used some panthers when they were in a tight spot.
@@kshatriya1414 thank you for info
it inspired alot of post-war designs, the ARL series is supposed to be inspired by the Panther series. they did have late variants of Panthers in their army after the war too, I'm pretty sure you can find some research in french that were around at the time it was in service.
A real tank lover, like the narrator, sounds happy when talking about a master piece. gj.
The Panther was just super looking!
Indeed but looks aren't everything 😃
That English accent and tone of voice is extraordinary, congratulations!
They need to restore the inside and outside to make it running again ^^
Rick VanD,you're right about that #I will be awesome
Why? Go for historical accuracy. Leave it broken down and rusting.
They restored Tiger 131, why leave the Panther out?
It's "brother" is actually still running in Germany (built in the same way by the brits after the war ended). You can find videos on youtube of it called "Panther im Gelände German Tank in Motion 2009". Sadly they don't really run it anymore as it seems.
Jan H. Moehle They seem to want to forget that history, so they can do it again is what's happening
Really enjoying this series. The Presenter is a pleasure to listen to and narrates the history of these tanks in a story telling way that is interesting to listen to. Well Done!
My favorite tank of all.
+Teutone PzKw 5 is the most aesthetically pleasing.
Teutone one of the best looking ones
I honestly love the Panther it’s such a gorgeous vehicle to look at.
This guy has the best job ever
I like that raspberry ripple paint scheme 🍧
Same here
You are entitled to your opinion (and remember, that is all it is) but you are not entitled to be rude and offensive. I thought this presentation was excellent, by the way.
Freedom is the right to do anything that is not harmful to others, not to do as you please. Free speech does not include slander, libel, incitement to hatred - as the Law testifies. Rights also bring obligations and responsibilities. Decency and good manners should prevent you from insulting someone else, regardless of what you think of them.
My friend, I don't have a narrative. Just a lifetime of living in different countries and I've yet to find a functioning one where it's OK to insult people. You'll not go far with that attitude.
Hello again. Yes, it seems our discussion has become one about whether there are any limitations to free speech. If I understand you correctly, you argue there are not, that anything goes. I argue that there have to be limits, on the basis that one has no right to hurt others including their feelings and sense of worth. Leaving that aside for a minute, this exchange started because I felt your original comment on David Willey "It was painted icecreamlicious for this poopy pants pompous British know it all to make a fool of himself on TV" was unwarranted and offensive, and I thought about how he might feel should he read it. Being British is not a failing as far as I know, but as regards being a "know it all", he's the curator of a major single-subject museum, it's his job to be able to speak authoritatively on the subject. That's all he did. It seems to me that to defend your comment under the banner of free speech is disingenuous, and in my book you owe the man an apology. Your comment also contributes nothing to the subject and I'm surprised you felt it was worth posting.
The Saxon Panther
This Panther was (made) completed in Hannover lower saxony under British control shortly after the War, built by the Maschinenfabrik Niedersachsen Hannover MNH Factory and was produced together with some Jagdpanthers and other Panthers for brit. army trials in the UK.
MNH was the only german Factory producing Jagdpanther and Panthers together.
Because of paint shortage in late war parts of the camo was made of red Primer.
Panther G with early gun mantlet D,A,G type , i wounder that they had no late type Gunmantlets in MNH because the shape of the early type lead to a shot trap when a Round hits the lower part of the Gummantlet.
A bit too short - for such an impressive beauty
That sloping armour, the fantastic suspension and 38mph speed. Plus a whacking great accurate gun. This tank is the complete package and years ahead of its time. Impressive!
Indeed.
It's amazing how u could say that about so much German WW2 weapons.
Rocket, jet, and submarine program ridiculously and hilariously further ahead.
@@4realjacob637 Zeiss weapon optics... created an oxygen induced process for hardening armour... created a welding process for mating armour pieces. Winston Churchill said it himself, "Germany is too powerful and must be destroyed".
38mph ?!! Thats very optimistic...
@@jimmytgoose476 You are right. Probably 29/ 30mph at best. But they look fast even when parked.
It would be really cool if you guys could redo all your old videos like this (or the King Tiger) that are quite short, I could listen to Tank Chats for hours.
Fun fact: a panther big cat is not actually a species of big cats but a hair colour found on leopards and jaguars
Black hair to be specific.
Interesting to see the production facility photos, the welding positioning jigs were impressive.
Objectively speaking this is the best tank of the war if we look at it as a single vehicle. Jagdpanther was regarded as the best tank destroyer design by the allies. Good armour and mobility. Devastating gun and accuracy. Nightmare situation is to see your tank platoon getting destroyed one tank at the time but you have no idea where the shots are coming from. Hope those Typhoons or P-47's come soon. If we look at it in a bang for your buck sort of way...humble Stug III has amazing efficiency at a very, very low cost.
A fantastic tank. An epic museum. Go there. Bask in the wonder of these mechanical beasts of war.
The best looking Tank ever created such an icon thank you!
When your gun has good firepower but your engine has the power of fire.
Amazing suspension system. Complex, but very compliant with enormous wheel travel and floatation. Watching the tank driving off the tank transporter and moving at speed over the washboard track shows the suspension in action.
I would really like these videos to be ten minutes in length or longer.
My favorite tank, so much style and awesome look ..and about brakedowns ,it s just because of rush production ....so imagine if panther was aviable for battle in 1941.
Wouldn't have made any difference.
My favourite tank- the sexiest tank ever built I’d say, maybe with the exception of the leopard 2
i love that apc look with the huge hull compared to the turret and a thin long gun. Though the cutest tank is probably the early t34 with rounded turret front and f34 gun (as seen in the tank museum vid)
I think the Chally 2 looks sexier than the Leopard 2.
The Panther sure is though. Jagdpanther even moreso.
Sexiest ?!! You need to meet some ladies 😃
Love the tank but love the curators ability to speak even more
The British Sherman Fire Fly was a Panther Killing Machine !
Thats cool they made new ones after the War , so there are examples in nice working condition.
Many thanks video production team and David for an enjoyable and informative video
I love that paint job.
it is called the 1/3 scheme. it uses a third of the paint. standard red oxide primer with dunkelgelb Camouflage over the top.
Invincible It would do pretty well where I live, we have alot of iron ore here.
"Bacon wrapped"
You're worthress Arec Borman
Oddball or whit huh
Pepperdog181@gmail.com
Jingles sent me. Love the video.
Jingles, now that's a name I've not heard in a long time
I agree. We can get general tank history anywhere. Its the facts and story about the actual vehicle you have in your collection that will be unique and most interesting. Thanks
Thank you David Willey. A short but very informative video. :)
Thanks kindly for yet another tank chat. I certainly appreciate all these. If you see Mr. Fletcher, please pass on our regards. Many here miss him and do wish him well. :)
These tank museum videos are very, very good. More please mates!
What a great video!. Well spoken, clear, informative, just perfect.
"medium tank" are you kidding me that thing is freaking huge
Thanks!
There's an angel painting heaven in the background.
glareola those Typhoons never hit it, just kicked up a lot of dust & soil
wow another enjoyable video thank you very much!
NO..IT'S..TANK YOU VERY MUCH
A longer video please, and a look inside the tank.
My favorite tank of all time!
Panther has wonderful lines, real menacing looking.
SOOOOOOO AWESOME, LOVE THIS TANK AND THE TIGER
Thankt you for this short but good lesson, Sir.
i own a old Book about the german Tanks with alot of Pictures. It is also full of quotes and Battlereports of all sides. Theres a quote from a soviet Officer from the Kursk battle. It goes: ,, The Enemy introduced a new Tank, much like Type 34 . We have heavy casualtys at 2000Meters "
we need this in Battlefield V. Maybe as a special reinforcement or another heavy tank.
looks so impressive
I always hate when people use the side armor being weak as a problem with the Panther. Literally every tank is weak at the sides and back.
The KW-1 had redicolous side armour for its time, though yeah most MBTs still have side armlur that is weak to medium ww2 field guns.
Agreed - and by all measurements the Panther had pretty good side armor versus its competitors.
Still much prefer the Tigers but it boggles the mind how people nowadays are saying the Sherman is better. None of the vets I've talked to in person thought so...
Lovely talk, thank you!
Love these talks some of the most interesting on youtube 👌🏻
Love armor, thank you so much for this channel.
These tank chats are great. I may have to donate again to the Tank Museum! lol
Thanks for another fantastic video!
Very nice. I love this series I hope to come visit your fine museum someday. And the rest of the country too. :)
Love 'Tank Chats'...
Excellent presentation thanks 😃👍👌👏👏👏
My grandpa drove one of those
Definitely my favorite tank of the war. Wish more would've survived the conflict. Styling, power, armor, technology, survivability. At least after the bugs were worked out. I agree, the best tank produced during WWII.
@Jim Goose true to a point. Every tank had some issue. A product that proves nothing is perfect. Just like cars today. Some have electrical issues, tranny problems, or suspension problems. For the time period it was a piece of art. But that's my opinion.
It was a beautiful tank! Shame there weren’t more of them 😍
Or luckily there weren't more of them ;-)
there were 6000 concdering everything else thats an impressive number.
@Jim Goose Gernamy never had the resources of the US or the Sovjet Union, therefor comparing those numbers directly is of very litle use.
@@zafranorbian757 Soviet Union didn't have that much resources. The US and UK gave them a shitone of stuff
@@HellStr82 True, still Germany had even less resources as the sovjet union.
TANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE VIDEO
The vibration suppression on the Panther was not surpassed until Leopard came along.
The US took the Panther as benchmark and the m48 finally came very close in all aspects.
How can you only talk 5 minutes worth of content for this beauty?
Thank you.
I do like your videos, nice to see you're getting into the later tanks instead of just WW1 and 1920's/1930's tanks. Do you also think you could do some of the more obscure stuff like the Damlier and Tetrarch?
I know! The Tetrarch is so cute, for such an imposing title. Plus you can land the thing behind enemy lines in a frickin glider.
Bravo ! Always enjoy !
“Our problem child” guderian. Sweet Lines though! As an old welder it’s nice to see production photos. Big Jig Welding!
Great Work!
You guys should do a longer version of this tank chat. Much like the other panzer variants.
Great video!!!
Very good video good black and white film ( have been to the museum)
great videos!
Ever thought about doing a special on the jagdpanther? You guys have done one on both the King tiger and the jagdtiger, so it would be fitting!
They did do a chat on the Jagpanther.
Look for it.
Nice! Wish there was much more info about it, and combat stories.
Well presented
Thank you David Willey.
Coolest tank ever
Awesome Tank.. I collect the 1:16 all metal Tanks, up to 15 of them now, I have most of the main German Tanks and SPG.. Panzer III, Tiger 1 (x2), Panther G, King Tiger 2, Jagdpanther, Sturmtiger.. Really want a Jagdtiger next. Gets expensive, and they take up a bit of room...but look great!
Oh gosh oh gosh oh gosh when I saw that panther in my Sub feed I went Sploosh
Can I ask, what the Next Tank that you will Be covering ?
Thank for the Chats Keep up very good work.
well im glad the length of the videos has increased a bit :)
about the paint. this was not a actual used camo. this specific panther was actually made by the british when they captured the factories. they basically made one with whatever was lying around.
if it weren't for its lousy final drive system, panthers could've been crazy. they have this crazy torsion bar suspension rig that gives each road wheel like 3 feet of give. if it was built right it could've maintained 60 mph which is mindblowing. good for the allies. they kept putting grossly overloaded aluminum gasoline engines. wish he talked more about the gun, its a doozy.
I believe they said David was on vacation. He'll be back thouh :)
The turret is from an Ausführung A the G had a metal bar( dont know what to call it ) to preveng ricochets into the thin hull roof
XxDaHorstxX
Not all G’s had the “chin” on the mantlet.
Great vid, my only criticism is that id love to see more/longer! How about the centurion next?
Contrition sucks
Thanks.
Excellent 😊
Superb
Seems this G’s been fitted with an older model A turret- as it’s lacking the chin or lip that eliminated the Panther’s shot trap under the turret.
Beautiful tank.
The chin mantlet wasn't a universal feature of the -G ; it was relatively rare .
OUTSTANDING
戦車工場の写真は貴重ですね♪
I remember visiting Bovington yonks ago with my brother. Way before it was spoiled by all the lottery funding. We sat down to have a hangover cure in the café and this old buffer engaged us in conversation. Rumour has it that this gent has appeared in several featured tank museum videos.
beautiful machine
