Monteverdi’s Vespers makes the morning sun to seem to shine brighter as it rises over the horizon. What a soul rejuvenating peice, Monteverdi nailed it! Soli Deo Gloria!
absolument magnifique les musiciens musiciennes les choeurs adultes et enfants la mise en image tout est sublime et les vèpres de monteverdi en sortent magnifiés chapeau / merci du post
I attended this exquisite performance 5 years ago and again watched it in its entirety. It is magnificent, moving, and totally captivating from beginning to end. My deep felt thanks so much to all who performed!
This outstanding performance brought back memories of singing in the New England Conservatory Chorus. We did this piece with the Boston Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas in 1974. I really like the intimacy of this performance but it was certainly magnificent to sing this with over a hundred voices
I know a lot of performances of this all time masterpiece, especially in Europe. This is one of the best: soloists, choir, orchestra and a perfect conductor without show effects some conductors prefer.
I have several versions of this masterpiece on CD. This is one of the best I’ve heard, you brought me to tears several times. Exquisitely performed, just perfect! Bravo 👏👏👏👏
I have to say that I've struggled somewhat to fully appreciate this piece in the past, but that this performance absolutely 'cracks it open' for me. Not only is it musically excellent, but I think having both the latin and english together on the screen means you can more holistically connect to flow of the piece, which can seem a bit disjointed otherwise. Many thanks for posting it!
This version of Monteverdi's masterpiece has Latin/English subtitles to add to your pleasure. After 7 decades of listening to great classical music this remains in my top ten
Woww Awesome, never expected this from Nova Scotia or even Canada! This rendition equals to any of the best indeed.. Truly spiritually sensitive performance. The training for this performance was simply unimaginable... Thank you.
This is the most outstanding performance of this work I’ve ever heard-in person, on CD, or online (RUclips, etc.). Thank you for undertaking this sublime work with your marvelously talented singers and instrumentalists. The soloists were like a wish-come-true, and their tasteful and limited use of vibrato was stunningly breathtaking. Thank you many times over!!!
There is a spirit of holy reflection that permeated this version. Although many performances have the style, they rarely reflect any reverence for God There are great advantages to be gained in recording in an archtectural structure that provided a proper organ, and the natural resonance for the voices and instruments, particularly when the echo effect was used. One sees it reached into thehearts of the audience as well. Good show everyone!
I've been looking fr a version that came in a box set and would have been released in the 1970s. I can't find it and it's so hard to find another one that comes close to it. This one did, with bells on. Stunning, controlled, not too florid, brilliantly paced. And those voices. Thank you. Made a great Christmas present.
At the very beginning (0:14) you hear a very steady line, kinda like someone in conversation and the choirs response at 0:24. The classical dude in the ksi video I believe is referring to Rick Ross as 0:14 and the energy release at the end as 0:24.
Claudio monteverdi was born in cremona home of amati ,stadivari He was a contemporary of william Shakespeare. Monteverdi established opera as a new art form with his brilliant operas.he was a pioneer in the establishment of the orchestra with strings woodwind and brass.
These young boys' voices at 1 hr. are so beautiful. Very sorry to throw some cold water on this, but it's the 21st century. Surely we can have young boys AND GIRLS join sing these parts?
They are the boys from Capella Regalis Men and boys choir which at the time was the only boys choir which sang church music in Halifax(there were 0 Girls choirs that sang church music at the time). BUT now the newly formed Capella Regalis Girls choir is in full swing! I believe the director of the concert also used the boys choir because that is the way the piece is intended to be performed. But thank you for your kind words after all i am one of the boys in the choir lol this was my first concert. Go check out the Capella Regalis RUclips page where they are releasing a concert recording of Faurés Requiem (Released on April 1st for limited time) with the Boys and Girls choirs, and with the all saints cathedral choir! A wonderful concert I was glad to be apart of! Hope you enjoy it! Happy Easter!
That is a legitimate question. Halifax does need a real positiv organ. We are seeking a donor, these instruments start at $100,000, and require roughly $1000 of maintenance per year.
His 1990 version is outstanding, but his other versions are a mixed bag . Over the top, even bombastic. Especially the BBC Proms ones. He peaked with the 1990 one.
@@tomswift3261 Performing in St Marks helps a lot, especially with the separation of choirs. However, I agree, never has been, nor ever will be bettered.
True. Not that it matters much. But the ethereal reverb of the trebles in ‘Santa Maria Ora Pro Nobis’ could never be achieved in the small, crowded, and cluttered sanctuary shown in the footage. Never.
That this exists in the universe is a miracle! Beauty to the end of days.

I have this recording & it is the best one out there. Absolutely exhilerating. Great voices.
This is what heaven must sound like.
This is beautiful and of the highest level.

What a wonderful performance! This is a new favorite of mine!
What a wonderful performance I've stumbled across. Many congratulations to you all. Charles Daniels on fire!
Charles Daniels is amazing!
What an excellent job! Outstanding output with honest resources. Elegant, correct, unpretentious but powerful.
Absolutely sublime. Praise and thank you to the blessed Virgin Mary!
Praise be to Christ

Un'opera grandiosa; il suo ascolto mi ha procurato un'intensa suggestione. Grazie Hagop .

i took part in a performance of this last night! i was only part of the last 30 minutes but omg it was amazingggg ❤

A beautiful, soul touching performance!
this piece is truly timeless.................thanks for introducing me to Monteverdi ♫

Why did you "not expect it from Nova Scotia or even Canada"?
Spectaculaire! Quel beau concert. I didn't know there was such a beautiful choir and ensemble at King's College, Nova Scotia. Wonderful.
Mir geht es ebenso. Ich freue mich auch über dieses wundervolle Ensemble. Danke auch für den mitlaufenden lateinischen und englischen Text.
Magnificent singers and players!
Magnífico!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏

Very beautifully done, long, but I enjoyed every minute, 😊Sheila.
That's such a phenomenal start to a piece of music.. love this era of music...
Beautiful, stunning, magnificent.
Beautiful performance, the sound is exquisite. Wish I'd been at the live recording.
Brought tears to my eyes
Truly outstanding!!!! I'm glad to be their 100th like.. This definitely deserves more recognition......

What a treasure. Thank you!
Brilliant!
This was played today almost in it's entirety on Sirius XM. Absolutely beautiful!
Fabulous!
Que belleza ! Excelso ! 😮
I have read that there are other choirs!
None like King’s College of course. Great to have this on You Tube. Loved it. ❤️🙏🏻
Just beautiful. What more can I say?
Here from ksi on capital?
Nice
Yeh I ain’t hearing the similarities , anyone else?

Never mind he literally explains it at the end of the video did not know
@Govava Quite a stretch lol, but I guess music is subjective
@Govava Wow ok child
Likewise. I've heard many versions; this ranks up there with the very best.
I thought that I would hate this. I was wrong. So very good.
Hát ez nagyon szép volt.

very good thank you!
Epic!
Sounds fantastic! Decided I loved it after 45 seconds. Decided I was very interested after 10.
Glad you enjoyed it Rosalind
Well done Canada
Very good,very!
Very dynamic

boys' choir is a particular sound that cannot be matched, and is worth preserving. that doesn't mean that a mixed boys/girls choir cannot also exist.
Nice
I would like to buy this on CD, but can't find it anywhere.
Wonderful performance. But - really - are you perfoming this masterpiece with an elettric keyboard???
@Alexander Hendry very interesting comment
That is a legitimate question. Halifax does need a real positiv organ. We are seeking a donor, these instruments start at $100,000, and require roughly $1000 of maintenance per year.
Wendy Carlos' THE WELL-TEMPERED SYNTHESIZER has entered the chat.
Il paradiso è qui
Who's here from Wendy Carlos' THE WELL-TEMPERED SYNTHESIZER? :)
Helmuth Riling would say - OK!
1:23:06
Superb, but I'd love to hear a techno version of this.
Why ? Make your own techno music on your side.
The hottest take on monteverdi, possibly ever.
Check out Wendy Carlos' THE WELL-TEMPERED SYNTHESIZER - it's the last track.
When you've been listening to your recording years ago and you seek it out years later and find its performed too fast..😮 o well
QUITE GOOD CANADA. BUT JOHN ELIOT GARDINER'S VERSIONS SOUND SUCCINCT AND MAJESTIC
His 1990 version is outstanding, but his other versions are a mixed bag . Over the top, even bombastic. Especially the BBC Proms ones. He peaked with the 1990 one.
@@tomswift3261 Performing in St Marks helps a lot, especially with the separation of choirs. However, I agree, never has been, nor ever will be bettered.
the sync is wrong;
so just listen, forget the look.
you will rarely hear greater music.

The impartial purchase problematically happen because staircase mostly flap forenenst a fallacious penalty. insidious, boring wind
White people and their culture are awesome.
