I remember the day I saw this car!. Never knew a thing about jags, except in passing they caught my eye, like anyone. Since March 15, 2018 I now own an 1990 xjs12, xjs12 1984, and a recent purchase of a 1983 xj6. My love is just building! Truly, if you can get over fixing a car, they're worth the trouble. Old school, true blue auto's. Amazing!!!
What octane you use on the xj6? Regular, Plus, or Premium?
@@RAMCO840 I have a 1973 xj6 and it runs best when I add octane boost to the gas
Yes, I'm on my sixth. You can't get enough of these things.
Can’t beat a series 1, superb motor..
I have a 74 series 2 in this same colour. A truly beautiful car in every way. There is just something undefinable about a Jag that just gives you a wonderful feeling when you drive it.
That's so true !!!
Greensand? Or Cotswold Yellow?
A beautiful example of a classic Jag.
52 years on and the xj6 still looks great. I actually prefer the series 1 to the later series with the typical 70's/80's plastic bumpers, trim and door handles etc. It was sold in the uk for about twice the price of a morris minor which like most jaguars at the time was impressive value for money. The year of this model was actually the same year the xj12 was launched which was at the time the fastest 4 door saloon in the world with near 150mph top speed, 7.6s to 60mph and and monumental thirst that would challenge even a 6.75l rolls-royce silver shadow!
Stunning. King of the road.
This is my favourite Jaguar! I only wish it were a manual, but still, it’s beautiful!
Beautiful Series 1 Jaguar XJ6 saloon looks well loved and preserved popular classic Jaguar in the UK
I love that your preserving & driving this beautiful Jag. I've had two and enjoyed every minute I was in them.
Thank you!
Very nice. I bought a '71 4.2 last summer with good body but very rough interior. It had been in a garage for 10+ years. I have just finished stripping and re-varnishing the dash panels.
What a great example of a magnificent car.
The chrome wheels really set it off .
Nothing could touch them in their day and the basic suspension and steering platform was used from 1968 right up to 2004 as used in the Aston Martin DB7.
No car has come close to matching the combination of ride and handling these cars offered, some rode better but handled worse, some handled better but rode worse.
Very fast in their day too, add a V12 and you have a supercar.
Very stylish.
Wow!
Dad bought a second hand one of these a 1971 model in 1974 .
We had relatives in Plymouth which was 238 miles away from where we lived in North Birmingham UK.
Dad did the journey in 2 3/4 hours door to door .
Av speed 86 miles an hour early one Sunday morning.
This car not only is one of the best looking cars ever made , it's also one of the most effective at covering ground very quickly.
Fuel consumption was not great at 120 mph , about 11mpg and we needed 3 pints of oil , but still.
This car absolutely wowed us.
Thanks for the comment and what a great automotive memory! It really is a superb design. I have an XJ12 now, series 2 so not as elegant but very close and feels the same from the driver's seat. Same poise on the road, but more power and so smooth. I can't imagine the fuel consumption at 120mph all day, though it would happily do it!
It's on the back of the first of the fast cars in the 60s it seems incredible now to think that then people would take their car out to see how fast it would go. No one would do that now . I suppose we ve all got used to fast cars and speed Today is not that big a deal.
Then again a mate of mine had a C 63 with a chip upgrade so you get the throttles to open fully and you get 540bhp instead of the standard 450hp. That was interesting.
My Father had one, almost identical to yours (the colour was maybe a little darker as I recall but then again maybe not). A truly majestic car and a delight to drive. He loved it.
Nice!
I've owned some Jag's...currently driving a XK from the year 2008...but the mustard green Jag in this video is really stunning...one of the reasons why I've always admired the Jaguars since I was a kid...no beauties since Tata took over...last XJ that was having the old 'chique' was built in 2007,...I had one from 2005...traded it for the XK...I am still puzzeled whether I did the right thing...greetz from Holland (Europe) where the windmills turn and the cows fart....
That's a Series 1. I had a Series 2 XJ6 4.2 in exactly the same colour. Only thing was, it had pink velour seats, which I didn't like. Apart from that it was a beautiful drive, and very reliable. Being in one of these Jags is pure therapy.
Beautiful! I love both my XJ12c and XJ40. Always good to see fellow Jag enthusiasts.
Out of the 1855 c-12 s made 686 came to the U.S..
a beauty, even after 50 years or so......it just keeps getting more beautiful as the years go by....I love the proportions, the athletic stance, everything is just so right!
Thank you, I agree!
Very nice video, jazz music, and beautiful iconic British masterpiece. I really appreciate and enjoy watching your video multiple times. 🇬🇧🏎🎶🍷🌴🙂
I'm enjoying this....while having a coffee. Bliss.
Great! The Jag projects a kind of peaceful sense, doesn't it!?
@@gigpete agreed, I have an XJ350, best car i've ever had, normally like metal and rock music but in the Jag I put classical music on LOL.
Very nice video, thank you. Beautiful photographing. Relaxed cool jazz music. Series 1 is my favorite XJ model. 👍
Fantastic video!!! Great footage of such a beautiful car !! Music backs it up with coolness 🇬🇧😎
Thank you!
The Jaguar xj series 1 is in the meanwhile, after a half century, a real Oldtimer, not only a youngtimer or classic car. The xj series 1 is one of the most incredible underrated Oldtimer in the world. No idea why.
The best and finest you can get for this money and meanwhile very rare, especialy compared with the xj 2 and xj 3.
Jaaaaaag! What a pure design the Series 1 XJ was. Beautiful.
My dad owned four jags during my childhood: ‘76 XJ, then an ‘82 XJ-S, then an ‘86 XJ and finally an ‘87 XJ-S.
As I grew up, I always told myself I’d own an XJ-S like dad had, but as I get older (40 now) it’s that series II XJ - with the same chrome hubcaps you have - that I yearn for. Can’t even remember the last time I saw one...
Thank you for commenting! Funny, I keep thinking I will buy an XJ-S, They are amazing cars, coming on the heels of the (by that time long-in-the-tooth) XKE, and I am fond of the V12, but by the time we get to that era I start looking at the Mercedes and Porsche options instead. Ah, but the XJ6! Nothing like it! Combining the attributes of the vintage sedan, components of the classic sports car, and gorgeous lines, it is my preference, too. This particular car was sold off as planned, but now it's a bit of a regret and I'm on the hunt for another, though a diamond in the rough like this was is virtually impossible to find.
Gig Pete Be sure to search RUclips for video of Harry Metcalfe and his very early mustard yellow XJ-S and XJ coupe (among other exotica). The channel is called Harry’s Garage. You’ll love it.
I'd forgotten about Harry's XJS, and his drive to Monaco in it! But I do know his videos well. In fact, I mentioned the Mercedes SL in my prior reply: my '82 SL is blue and has been backdated with the euro bumpers and steels wheels with blue hubcaps, to look very much like Harry's early R107 SL!
Gig Pete I have a backdated S2 Alfa Spider, identical to the one on the VelocemotoHD YT channel. I fell in love with that guy’s car and made one exactly like it, except mine is left-hand drive (I’m in Canada). Check it out! We are kindred spirits :)
@@lebojay Very nice! Funny, I started the restoration of a very original and rust free 1978 Spyder just a few years ago, with the intent to backdate it the same, but I discovered front end damage that I didn't feel was worth fixing. Oh, and I'm Canadian too, see the video of taking my Elan home to Victoria for a visit! Classic cars connect!
Just a lovely kept british car, nothing like a jag so get one used with no regrets.....
Love the jaguar it's got class😅
Gig Harbor!!! With the old green & white plates!
Just found this video. Wow, glat to see another 1973 Series 1 roaming around in this condition. I myself own same vintage XJ6, colored Heather. It's a dream driving it.
Thanks for the comment, and glad to hear about Heather!
I have a 1996 xj6. Jags have awesome styling but it good to have a friend that is good in mechanics 👌
Yeah, tough to own a classic these days if you aren't turning you own wrenches.
I have a 1982 Jaguar XJ6 Sorveign Series3 with about 98,000 miles and also a 1991 Jaguar XJ40 with about 77,000 miles.
I have yet to do a full tune up on both,.. waiting for warmer weather to do that.
Both of them have a great and smooth ride.
Looking forward to more videos like this one.
I haven't driven an XJ40 but my understanding is that they are really nice.
@@gigpete,.. they have a very smooth ride and still handle the curves very well.
Brilliant video, so expertly done. Love these cars such understated beauty.
The 1978 is my favorite will own my second one months end only drive it on the weekend. These cars are A lot of money when they brake but they are great weekend cars.
Had a 73 Series 2 RHD LWB XJ6 just like it in the UK. The colour is Sand Green,I was a pure joy to drive.
Smooooth. Nice video, great looking Series 1 and nice jazz sound track to compliment the high quality video - more please. In the UK that colour was used on the series 2 as well - I might be wrong but I think it was Sahara Beige. My fist Jag' was a series 2 in Primrose Yellow with black vinyl roof and chrome wheels
Green Sand I think?
Just bought a S1 in Sable Brown, cant wait to pick her up
paul willis You are right I had exactly same car in eighties don’t know why I remember the colour poss because I was respraying parts . Yes Green Sand lovely colour and mine had dark green leather interior R reg 1977 I think
Beautiful just beautiful.
I have a s2 xj6 and a xjs 5.3.
I did have a mk10 3.8 that was a fantastic old jag as well.
Lovely car - and the soundtrack really suits it. I have noticed that North American Series 1s adopted the bigger boot plinth, probably because it houses the number plate light, before Britsh models got it in Series 2 form. The Series 2 tyres suit it too, particularly with the whitewalls.
Well spotted.
The plinth is definitely Series 2.
The number plate light for the Series 1 was in a housing attached to the bumper so the bumper has to be different too.....
US-spec series ones began using the series II chromed wheels and boot plinth, my '73 has them as well.
Hi ...I am in the UK .... I've also noticed you have the later style chrome wheels (sets of the car beautifully by the way) which were on the series 2's and series 3 E types ...these wheels have the more smaller hubcaps which protrude out more ....ive always loved the series 1's as my late dad had one in the early seventies.
Same thing with the wheels, they came to North America earlier than the other markets.
Jaguar Xj6 and Aston martin Vantage 1977 the most beautiful cars.
Wonderful and this colour is very nice. I have a XJ40 4.0
Nice little film, nice little drive, I can watch again a few times
Thank you!
Gorgeous car. I had a ‘76 XL12L for a while. It was hashed, and problematic, but I’d love to have it back.
Perfect music for video of this cruiser.
I have a series 3 V12 in black with wire wheels and I love it but I have to say that I really really miss the series 1 dashboard which was so beautiful and Jaguarish. I never knew why Jaguar changed it as subsequent dashboards were just boring.
I agree Frank. All XJs are lovely, but like you say, for me the Series 1 dash is the best
Lovely old girl that can still dance.
I've been a fanatic of the series 1, 2 and 3 from I was in high school. For me absolutely nothing could match the timeless styling and elegance of those problems. However, those cars weren't without their problems, but for me Jaguar had nailed the styling. It's a real pity that they deviated with the new styling designs which just doesn't capture my fancy.
This is a really nice video and car it is good see xj6 series 1 on the road there is something about them in motion. I have a 1973 XJ6 series 1 and I try to drive it every day in summer and I've never had a car get so much attention. I also have a 1987 xj12 with a TWR package it gets a few questions but nothing like the series 1 XJ6.
Yes I agree with you I have noticed other late series 1's with the larger boot plinths
Daimler/VDP versions had the larger boot panels I think
My all time favourite motor. Nothing comes remotely close.
But that's just me.
I had exactly the same model in the eighties even same colour. Was a great car , but heavy on fuel remember if you floored it could watch petrol gauge go down. Needed the twin tanks !
Lovely oily rag as we call them here.
تحفه...اجمل سيارة بتاريخ...اعشق هاذه السيارة
Absolutely gorgeous
This is my favourite colour....why? Just happened to have a series 2 in the same colour with pressed chrome steels. Quite rare in the UK. I really do love the colour, it's just so right .
I had a Series 2, 4.2 engine, in this colour. Only thing was that it had velour seats, prefer leather. Fantastic car though. Still got a pot of the touch-up paint in a store room.
Absolutely beautifull...👍👍👍👌👌👌👏👏👏👏
I purchased your twin today 1973 XJ6 Olive
That is a beautiful series 1 jag.... I noticed its got a series 2 boot plinth.... Series 1's were more flush.
Thanks!
At least in the U.S., some time in '72 we got the larger plinth with the integrated license plate light. I've seen a '71 US car with the early style. But all the '73 series 1 cars I've seen here (and in Canada, I think? ) have had the larger style.
I saw a post from a fellow in Australia with a later series 1 and the early style, so not consistent everywhere, it seems. Where are you?
Well this might be too late for anyone to read but the combination of this lovely film showing all the angles and grace of the XJ plus an awful film two lads did two years ago on Carfection (who had no knowledge nor love of the car) has persuaded/inspired me to do my own film of my xj12 series 1 - warts 'n all. Judging from the number of views and informed comments there seems to be a large interest in these cars. Is there anyone else out there who wants to put their cars on RUclips? I hope mine is done by the summer - that might seem a long time but I live in Lapland, it is -30 C right now and I don't think the heater not the tyres are up to the job!
Great car and well filmed !
Always wanted to make a film like that with all of my cars.
Thank you!
Very nice Jag
Amazing ... Divine vehicle.
The series one was a giant leap for car comfort car makers couldn’t copy its ride and handling
it has no comfort. I've driven it.
@@korayerkmen90 you didn’t drive one when they were new I did, you probably drove a neglected car which will always disappoint
@@jackkallemdjian3945 It was in like new condition when I drove it 3 years ago. It belonged to a rich person. I do not think it was worth the money when it was new. It's not worth anything now either.
@@korayerkmen90 fair enough

Do you still have this, l have seen this film before. I had a series 2 in the same colour ( Green Sand) l Really love the colour . Not a colour l would have chosen but it's so period. Mine also had the pressed chrome steels but the white walls just finish the car off so well . Thank you
Hi, thanks for the comment. No, this was sold on Bring a Trailer in late 2018, went to Florida to join a Jaguar MK10 I believe.
Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes....thank you for sharing!
You're welcome!
Jolly good show mate, she looks smoove.
back in the days jaguar was a real clasic car .well engeneered, only a few could afford it in jamaica.top pros like lawyers, doctors etc.we didnt see them often but when you see it was something to admire.then ford take over and the car and all its history went south to hell now tata is trying to keep it alive
Very relaxing
What a great video.
super stylish car and music!
Stunning! Are your wheels tastefully spaced, or stock setup?
Stock setup :)
@@gigpete William Lyons knew best 👌
Ang galing naman yan po
Thank you!
Just watched this again after four years.. It is such a beautiful car, the series 1 has always been my favourite. I have two 308’s now, one being a Daimler but I would swap them both in a heartbeat for another series 1. (Is the boot off a series two, the chrome lock surround is not the earlier type?)
I've had multiple people, especially from the UK, comment about both the boot plinth and the wheels. By 1973 the US market started to get some of the new updates on the final year of series 1 cars. The larger boot plinth, with the integrated license plate light, replaced the upwards facing one that was mounted in the rear bumper, and always filled with water.
@@gigpete Ahh, that makes sense. I’ve learned something new. I do prefer the look of the original plinth still.. Enjoy your V12, another cracking car 👍🏻
@@paulfitzgerald7513 I've been working on the '73 I recently acquired, swapping out all of the US-spec exterior lighting for proper UK bits, and generally getting it running, and was tearing my hair out trying to sort out the LT wiring for the ignition, nothing matched what was in my Haynes manual until I accidentally glanced at the diagram for the series II. My car is a very late series 1 with ignition wiring for the series II.
@@mescko I suppose it stands to reason that they would start to use the latest wiring loom. Good luck with getting your car how you want it, I’m very jealous 🥹
@@paulfitzgerald7513 Thank you. I've also started the ball rolling on a 5M swap, already have the most important item, the gearbox. There's a local tuning firm that makes a bellhousing/flywheel adaptor kit for a Nissan 5-speed and a third pedal kit.
He does look like the sort of person who might break into your house given the opportunity, in that hat. So yes that is the appropriate look for a Jag saloon driver ;-)
Hmmm, I think I'll choose to take that as a compliment and say Thanks! Lock away your valuables...
@@gigpete, Of course, it is a compliment, your Jag is your real villans motor ;-). The music even has a Get Carter quality about it.
@@gigpete A bit like a _'gentleman burglar'_ ---haha.
Beautiful
Gorgeous.😍
Very good video
Period car, period sound-track
Smooth
Where is its equal today?
That's a good question: pretty, fancy, sporty, and ELEGANT. Where would you go today? Tough call. No room for that individuality now, and little of that "contemporary classic" vibe.
Stunning car!!! 👍👍
thats a proper car sir
how come on the sterring wheel there is a lions head and in uk its a D in the middle please
Hello! The "D" should, I think, only be on the Daimler-branded version called the Sovereign (or DoubleSix for the XJ12 twelve cylinder version).
ok cheers sir very nice
thanks sir whats the colour
The colour is Green Sand.
cheers sir is beautiful
Sorry that's series 2 xj 6's and 12's and series 3 E types on the wheel spec in my last message
My dad's car, but his is just grey😍
It's in great condition, not many like that in UK. The weather and road conditions just dont seem to be suitable to keep cars in good nick if using them all time. I think in the uk a lot of people view cars as throw away items and just dont seem to look after them
God that's a nice motor🤗
Serise 1 was the best xj6 and x308 is the best modern jag
Quelle folle élégance..
Lovely car. At some stage a Series 2 boot lid was fitted together with Series 2 tailpipes, possible rear end collision?
Hi, thanks for the comment! No, no collision or boot lid change. As discussed in other comments, there are differences across the markets. This is a '73, fairly late Series 1 car, and by then the US (and Canada too) already had the different boot plinth and license plate light (since the bumper mounted ones tended to fill with water) and the styled chrome wheels. I've only seen the early boot plinth once or twice over here, pretty rare. It surprises me how long the UK home market held on to some things - only goes to show how the car buying markets were indeed different.
@@gigpete Did you happen to make a note of the Commission number? I'm wondering how close it is to mine.
It is in the low 72000's. It was built on January 10, 1973.
Great car....when it works.
Pete I have an opportunity to purchase the same car, color same olive interior, 105,000 miles. Its running & rust free, well maintained. I'm comfortable with Classic Mercedes but not sure about series 1 Jaguar. Is there an online community that helps with topics. Are you happy with your car? How often do you driver it?
Hello and thanks for the comment. I have great respect for the classic Mercedes and have spent some good time with them. But the Jaguar's driving dynamics and interior look is the winner for me. There is a superb and active online community, Jaguar Forums and Jag Lovers Forums. We sold off the XJ6 from the video, but currently have a series 2 XJ12 that I drive very frequently, multiple days per week. The series 1 are prettier inside and out, but the series 2 car is really the same. And now the series 3 cars are getting real attention in the market, too. I prefer the earlier ones, though.
Did you get it?
Lovely motor! Just noticed the headlights are the same size. Was this a US spec feature?
Yes, a victim of the standardized US headlight regulations. Greatly disliked by most, though I personally don't think they hurt the car too much.
You have a sharp eye. They did an admirable job of disguising it. The lighting standards of the time forbade odd-sized headlamps. I'm in the middle of converting mine, it's not difficult. I'm modifying the indicators to two-color also.
Love , Love , Love :-)
Gotta love the Sweeney background music! Beautiful car but I don't like the front and rear side marker lights, spoil the lines somewhat....
The side lights were not period for a '73 model. They were only introduced in '79/80 for the the American spec XJ6's with the big black rubber bumpers.
@@garywhite1284 US spec 73's have the side marker lights and the smaller federal headlights. the series II also have the 5 mph rams and rubber bumpers. the series III Pininfarina restyled xj6 had much more integrated 5mph rubber bumpers...
@@garywhite1284That's not correct. At least by 1970, all cars sold in North America were required to have side marker lamps.
Most beautiful 4 door saloon car ever made. Today's ass ugly suv's make me sick.
Great film!
I noted your boot plinth. I own a 1973, april "born" XJ6 manual.
And I also have the series 2 style plinth. However, I most always get to hear it isn't original or wasn't om the car from the factory or that the car should have been in an accident and got a replaced bootlid etc etc.
Do you have/get similar reactions?
Yes! What country are you in? In the USA, there is just no question that Jaguar went to the "Series 2" boot plinth during Series 1 delivery, by '73 certainly, but '72 likely. In the UK, along with the painted wheels and hubcaps, it seems they maintained that trim level until the Series 2 debut.
Even this Ugly color look nice with iriginal. Sir William Lyons Design ....
Super cool car!
Yep had three o these XJ6
