The Marine's are just badass pure and simple.
The T models were removed from in fleet service. 3310 went to Test Sqdrn. I flew 3310 many hours as Marine KC-130T Flight Engineer when it was assigned to VMGR-234 in Ft Worth TX. It was a good bird.

Jolly big fellas picked us up in Africa from an about to be really bad situation. Usually was not easily impressed but those three beasts did that in spades ..

I saw a congregation meeting and the secretary of defense was being questioned why we only have 29% of the F-35 fleet in operational condition. He said a bunch but didn't say anything.

I sure would like to know it the refueling squadron was VMGR-252, my old squadron based out of Cherry Point MCAS, North Carolina.

They are a part of Marine Aircraft Group 14 (MAG-14), 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW) and provide both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aerial refueling capabilities to support Fleet Marine Force air operations in addition to assault air transport of personnel, equipment, and supplies. The squadron, known as "Otis" is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. It also has the distinction of being the oldest continually active squadron in the Marine Corps.[1]
Mission
Support the MAGTF Commander by providing air-to-air refueling, assault support, Close Air Support (CAS) and Multi-sensor Imagery Reconnaissance (MIR), day or night under all weather conditions during expeditionary, joint, or combined operations.
I have a feeling 310 is with VX-20 these days. Navy flight test out of Pax River.
Would hope that they had the airspace cleared when the flew past the pier! there could have been a drone or two in the air at that time from recreational/hobby flyers.
the rotor wash alone would of blew a drone away.
What would the weight be of that F-35 frame? without the engine and wings etc?
Must be below 15 tons, otherwise the chopper would not be able to lift it.

Would have been far more impressive if it could have flown a whole plane. However, I can see why the wings would have to be removed, however, keeping the engine in the plane would make this type of load far more impressive.
The CH-53K can lift 35,000 pounds, and the maximum gross takeoff weight of the F-35 is exactly double that. This was just something needing to be ferried to an experimental squadron for modifications, so it had to weigh less than 35,000 pounds.
See? They *CAN* all fly. Even the 35% of them that can't fly under their own power can be toted under a real reliable design from better people in a different era.
They should have dropped that stupid thing on purpose just to make a point.

Yes. It's happened before...
The KC-130 refueling platform has special long hoses and end baskets just for helicopters. The ones they unreel for jet fighters are quite a bit shorter with smaller baskets. They’ve been doing this for decades, so they have it all figured out. That was one of my jobs when I was on active duty.

I disagree. This type of activity is excellent training. It simulates a possible real world mission of recovering a downed aircraft to prevent the technology from falling into the wrong hands. You want to practice these activities and learn from them before you have to do them during actual battlefield conditions. This is why all armed services train in different environments and various weather conditions. You don’t want to have to figure it all out for the first time during a crisis.

F-35 is the most expensive military design failure. Believeing otherwise is simple American magical thinking .
Weird how U.S. allies around the globe are clamoring to buy the F-35.
Maybe you could make big bucks being a consultant and informing all those militaries how they are so wrong.
