On Jan. 26, 2022 we found Ken Maynard Hollywood's first singing cowboy's test pressing of this song he sang during his 1930 recording session with Columbia Records. I can't wait to hear his crystal clear digitally remastered cd of the 92 year old recording session what a great song !! thank you your fabulous Michael!
Great stuff. The quality of Michael's music over 40 plus years is staggering. Constantly changing and always with true craft and heart, few artists can match him.
Thanks for posting this info. My dad sang this song when I was a kid. I don't know how he knew it. But it's great to hear the story from a guy whose music I love and respect.
Enjoyed meeting you and your family many years ago in Crystal CO I kept in contact with your Dad for many years he sent me backstage passes such a sweetheart.

Ok who is right I have heard Carl T sprague wrote it and now Michael is saying D. J. O'malley wrote it. Well I just checked Michael is right Omalley wrote it but Carl T Sprague was the first to record it. sold over 900 thousand records in 1925
As a white man , it's good to hear stories about the past that are positive these days . It feels like we get slavery , stealing the land and overall being completely evil . They are making feel we can't be proud of our heritage even as a Yankee . I had family in the north and the south . I know who I am , and I will help , love anybody who shows me love .

My daddy used to sing this song to me and my siblings. 😢
I already loved this song, but the beginning half of this video detailing the story behind it just made it all the much better.

Love this series, quite fascinating to know the why behind the song. I grew up in Wyo and even a lot of this I didnt know...
Michael Martin Murphy is in my eyes the real deal and I've had a life long crush on him.. A mans man?❤❤❤
Hello there, Good morning and how are you doing today? The song is amazing and heart touching for real.
This is great, a part of American culture we have lost. Thank You!
Texas Aggie, Carl T. Sprague made this song a hit in 1923 on Victor. I saw you do a show at Texas A&M in 2004 and you never mentioned his name.😢
Love these videos with the backstory.
Wore out my cassette "Rhymes of the Renegades" so I get my MMM fix on YT.
Just saw him perform this, this morning Cowboy Poetry Gathering 2019 Elko Nevada
How lucky! I'm sure that was such a treat!!!! :-)
Ric A Where is the Cowboy Poetry Gathering performance at in Elko Nevada?
I listen to Wildfire every night!!

Marty Robbins did two versions of this song and when it's him you just know it'll be great.

Love it. When was this recorded?
I believe Polka was in texas influencing Mexican music on account of German settlers.
