Strada Statale 36 from Milan to Como Lake
The Italian highway 36, Lake Como and Spluga (SS 36) is a major road in Lombardy. It provides the main access route to the Valtellina and the Swiss canton of Grisons from Milan and other cities in southern Lombardy.
The road begins from the square Lagosta in Milan along Viale Zara and Viale Fulvio Testi, which are directed towards the north exit from Milan. The stretch of competence of the ANAS start at 8590 km, near the exit Sesto San Giovanni of the A4 (Highway A4). Shortly after the road pass the bypass north of Milan and enters the city of Monza, where the road takes the name Viale Lombardia. This first leg, which crosses an area completely urbanized, it is a dual carriageway (three lanes per direction of travel except short) and has several at grade crossings (some of which are regulated by traffic lights). In 2008 work began prior to burial in an artificial tunnel of about 2 km, as demanded by the population since 1996 by the Association HQ Monza. The tunnel is ready since April 2013. From Monza begins the stretch known as the New Valassina, six-lane highway that crosses the entire Brianza passing near Muggiò, Lissone, Desio, Seregno, Carate Brianza, Verano Brianza and Giussano, which is in practice a bypass. Starting from the exit of Giussano, there is a reduction of lanes to a number of four. Most users of trafficking so far described, in fact, comes from the basin of Erba. With this release, the road bends decidedly toward the east, heading towards Lecco. After the release of Civate, where the highway ended until 2000, the stretch-speed continues to Lecco and beyond with a tunnel in the Monte Barro and a tunnel that crosses the center of the city. To cause the least possible disturbance to the city itself, the two rods of the tunnel has been dug over another, if very rare in Italy. Lecco variant over the underground and the original track (which passed through the center of the city) are reunited for a short stretch that runs on the banks of Lake Como. While remaining a dual carriageway, this tract is characterized by roads (i.e., there are no limitations of typical transit of main roads). Just before the center of Abbadia Lariana begins Colico-Lecco highway, four lanes total, while the old route, a single carriageway, along the lake through all the coastal stations.
