I damn near cried tears of happiness over a regular season game in November. Thank you mark pope, I feel like UK basketball is back. I have so much confidence now because this game was not a fluke. @@geevikram2 I respectfully somewhat disagree, many of us (myself included) appreciated the excitement and energy that Cal initially brought. We liked the talent and success that came with it, but did not love the one and done strategy. Sure, we are all crazy and would put up with it as long as it was successful, and for a time it was, although you could argue we still came up short and underachieved with the talent we had, but when you go to 4 final 4s in 6 years and get a chip, hard to push back against that. As the years went on, the program felt more distant, there wasn't a connection, the talent wasn't as overwhelming and the coaching flaws that already existed were now magnified. Coach Cal became a broken record, the product was inconsistent and difficult to watch, and we got tired of him bragging about all his guys in the pros and how much money they were making. We now have a guy who puts the program before any individual. Who understands the magnitude and appreciates the BBN and won't call us "Basketball bennies." Pope's approach alone has ingratiated himself with the BBN and will buy him some time. Not forever, however, we did run off Tubby in a way he didn't deserve.
His halftime talk. He asked them what they thought the problem was. Its always easier for someone to change something if its their idea instead of someone telling them what they need to do. Then he kept it simple, two things we need to do to turn this around: transition D like the team said and ball screen defense. Then he built them up and gave them belief, they came out playing with passion and didnt quit. And he did all that in what maybe two minutes? Absolute master class. And then coaching the Flagg iso and spin before it happened so Oweh was right there. They will lose some games, but it won't be because they are doing their own thing, not working hard enough, aren't prepared or have been outcoached...which is all a breath of fresh air. I just can't help after watching this...can you imagine Reed playing in this system with this team? By God that dude would own the state.

The players preparing for something that could very well cost them their souls if they lose. Yes, this was a big game.

It is def inarguably the biggest, most passionate fanbase in college basketball and I think possibly that of any American sports team!! Fact that it is 21 of the 50 states that Kentucky basketball team sites were the most searched and viewed team sites of any college basketball program.. Duke isn’t the most searched team in ANY state! Not even their own.. Nothing compares to BBN!
