  • What is the House of Music ( also known as Magyar Zene Háza) like? We show you the unique and interactive experience this new attraction in Budapest has for you.
The House of Music in Budapest is one of the latest attractions in the city for visitors to enjoy.
But can you really make a museum of sorts for something that you cannot see, but only hear? We went to check it out to see if it's worth to visit if you are in the city and if it fits on a list of "Best things to do in Budapest, Hungary" :)
When you visit Budapest, you may want to spend some time in one of the many Museums the city has to offer. The Museum of Fine Arts or the House of Terror are all places that can be easily recommended, but can another Museum or Exhibition rise up next to them? The House of Music /Magyar Zene Háza certainly wants to be like that with it's interactive setup, something that can also appeal to the younger audiance.
Music is awesome and throughout the history of humanity it played a crucial role! This permament exhibition takes you on a Journey from the very first instances when sounds produced by humans started to take shape and form music, it shows you how instruments and the role of music has developed throughout the ages, all the way to how we consume and produce music today!
This is an interactive exhbition, you get a headset that helps you on your path to experience the wonders of music. This is why it was a challenge for us to film and edit this video for you guys, but we tried our best to somehow represent the experience. I believe we managed to capture some of the essence, but in the meantime still have a ton of things we didnt show to have suprises in there in case you visit.
Ticket prices to the House of Music / Magyar Zene Háza are around 2800 HUF (around 6-8 euros), and you should book online as tickets are limited and there are set time periods when your tickets are valid (since they dont want to overcrowd the exhibition)
You can find tickets to the Hangdimenziok exhibition here:
    ligetplusz.hu/jegyek/hangdime...
There are other venues and functions of the place as well, it can also host concerts, there is a cafe, restaurant, also the SoundDome and a sound heavy playground outside.

Have you visited the House of Music? If yes what did you think? What was your favorite part of the exhibition? I really enjoyed the Modern Music part and the drumming at the very beginning :) Share your experience too by leaving a comment below!

Last week we were in Budapest and we came to the House of Music twice, the first time the electricity went out. We came the next day, the notices were in Hungarian, so I don't know why they returned our money. Drinking coffee on the terrace is like being in a treehouse. Wonderful experience!

so glad you did a video on Müpa. I had no idea there was so much to see and do there - I thought it was simply a concert hall.

Hey there glad you enjoyed the video 😊 just as a clarification I would add that the Müpa (Művészeteket Palotája, or Palace of Arts) is indeed mostly known for the concert halls but it's a different building on the south side of Pest . This is the House of Music or Zene Háza 😊

I definitely want to check this out, possibly after visiting the nearby thermal baths. How long did the experience take, what month and day of the week did you go? I see that you have to sign up for a specific time and that they limit it to 30 people per time slot.

Hey there! I don't really remember when we went exactly but it was likely a Saturday during late spring :) Online you can check available slots and plan accordingly, I believe we went sometime around noon. I think 1,5-2 hours can be spent here, or even more if you read through all text carefully and take your time checking our all the items on show. Not sure about the limitations, definately more people can be in at the same time than 30 :)
