  • Toyota Motor North America is joining forces with DEKA Research and Development, the company founded by legendary inventor Dean Kamen, to support mobility solutions for the disabled community. This agreement will help DEKA to proceed with plans to complete the development and launch the next generation iBOT motorized wheelchair.
The iBOT is a revolutionary motorized wheelchair with two sets of powered wheels that can be rotated to allow the user to “walk” up and down stairs. The wheelchair allows users to rise from a sitting level to approximately six feet in height and travel in this "standing" configuration, and is capable of traveling through a wide variety of terrain types.

Well I had an iBot 4000 and I’d buy another if they came back. I loved my iBot as long as it lasted. So everyone needs to get off their lazy butts and make this a reality. The disabled Community will be much healthier with the iBot. Dean Kamen & Toyota thank you!!

Too bad all the previous ibot distributors have stopped servicing the original $23,000 ibot chairs. The batteries last three years and cost $1200 to replace. Good luck finding anyone who will take-on the battery replacement. Forget repair or parts replacement. The new chair will cost you $30,000, but how soon will it too be obsolete and abandoned by the well-intentioned distributors.

Replacing battery packs is easy, can even be done at home if you prepare a bit.
But regular electronic workshops should be able to, its just regular cells that can be bought of Aliexpress or Taobao.
As for other parts, I assume its made out of conventional stuff, with the right technicians, its not impossible.
And its certainly not 1200 bucks to change a couple of bad cells.

Yes - just received an e-mail from Toyota (in reference to the Paralympic Games) and it is listed as 'in the works' - along with other products still in the development stage.

    Good Morning!
My name is Daniel, I live in Brazil.
Yesterday I was on RUclips and I saw the IBot 4000 video, and I want to know how much it costs, I intend to make a kitty online, because I can't afford to buy one?
Just yesterday I put the video on my fecebook, asking if it could help me buy this motorized wheelchair…
Do you support if you need to change parts?
I, I hope you, Randi, will answer me soon, start the kitty online ...
    A hug, Daniel.

There's a guy on ebay that services the originals. He reverse engineered the codes in order to access the electronics. Somewhere in Texas I think.

If they were well intentioned, then they would NEVER be obsolete as they would never need to be improved because they work fine as they are.
