Translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.
Phra Suddhidhammaransi Gambhiramedhacarya (1907-1961), commonly known as Ajahn Lee Dhammadharo, was a meditation teacher in the Thai Forest Tradition of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya order of Theravada Buddhism. He was born in the Ubon Ratchathani Province of Isan and was a student of Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta.
Ajahn Lee is regarded as one of the greatest teachers and meditation masters of the Thai Forest Tradition of the 20th century. Among the forest monks, he devised the most comprehensive meditation instructions, and composed the most detailed map of the jhānas. He was one of the first teachers to bring the teachings of the Forest Tradition to the mainstream of Thai society. He never spoke of his own meditative attainments.

This is by far the best breathing exercise I have come across in my 27 years of meditation. My deepest gratitude to your gifting. 🙏🏼
My path is the Thai Forest Tradition and Ajahn Mun, Ajahn Chah. Ajahn Mun was an Arahant and a true blessing, thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏻🙏🏼
Much love . You are such a beautiful blessing. Thank you so for sharing ♥️🕉️☮️☮️☮️♥️
This beautiful meditation gave me a sense of peace and stillness I haven’t experienced in other guided meditations. I understand the importance in breath-focused meditation but usually experience interference from my ego: “Am I doing this correctly, etc.”. What I found here was an experience of calm and focus without evaluative thinking. I am so happy to have stumbled across this. THANK YOU!!❤❤❤
Wow, I have yet to enter the first Jhana, but the meditation created some very noticeable piti within me. Thank you 🙏🏼

❤ More Jhanas!
I like this meditation My gratitude and heartfelt thanks to you for this video available to me ❤❤❤❤❤
Can someone tell me what are the words to think of on In/Out breath @ 1:27? Is it "boot" and "go"/"dough" because that's what I hear and I don't think it's right. Or maybe it doesn't matter? Thanks.
The words/mantra he is encouraging us to use is: BUDDHO - which simply means wakefulness. If you put the cc's on (closed captions on the right hand side of the screen) you can find the transcript. I have also provided a link to the PDF teaching which can read for greater clarity.
Dear Friend, this is fun to learn and try. A new experiment.
The first time, my limbs became like wood!
Glad you benefited Jannie

The microbes in my belly are burbling with contentment 🦠 🤗 Many thanks! 💖
A trance seems to be the same as the all ground. But a trance is forced and the all ground one falls into?
If one thinks the body is the problem, and dissociates from it, one Falls into the trance of the all ground

Been reading a piece here and there of the translation. The method 2 you guide is a refreshing way to practice. Anapanna sati has been the area of contact for many years. I question, the instruction to change breath awareness if one gets headaches.
My headaches are only brought on by light/heat/high UV output/electric lights in summer months
I tried base of throat, I thought might help with throat closing attacks. Yet, breath plays between nose and throat. Breath does feel comfortable in both places. What is your recommendation?
#2. Was reading Method 1, thinking that's what you offered. Why are extra-sensory abilities first Method? It's enticing to attempt that practice, yet I think one would have to master #2 first and have meetings with a teacher that has perfected #1 for
Understanding the emphasis on Buddha's ability of extra-sensory perception in Stories From The Dhammapada, that Enlightenment encompasses these abilities, that in the right conditions humans can manifest.
I think the key recommendation for the breathing meditation is always to just work with what is most comfortable for you. For everyone, the place of resting the mind will be different and only an intuitive inner sense can guide you as to where that place of resting will be for you. Letting go of any ideas of psychic powers and attainments is also key to working with right view in the practice. These things can and do emerge, but not for everyone. Keep the goal of Liberation in mind (for the sake of all sentient beings) can keep us wise and grounded and able to maintain that essential authentic humility that is the Heart of the Buddha-Dharma. As the breath disappears and dissolves in the ground of Awareness, the Light of the Dharma can be allowed to shine through as our natural being. Sending much metta to you Venerable Dharma sister. 🙏🌺💜
@@SamaneriJayasara Thank you, for your kind response. Although in the robes of Tibetan tradition, after 15 years of the Ngondro Sadhana in Vajrayana instruction, no longer wish to practice in that tradition. My heartfelt wish is to take refuge in Theravada. How can I do that long-distance; living in Israel?
With palms together. The universal Wisdom of the Masters touches so many hearts of those who have other views and beliefs, yet reach liberation.
you’re looking for special abilities, to magnify the ego. you fool!
And Again thank you
Thank you 💜😺
When one in Jhana states it's impossible to think about anything. Only pure awareness remains. Then how vipassana can be applied when one can't think at all? Or maybe there is something else besides simply being pure awareness?
One can know with wisdom and insight beyond the thinking or discursive mind. You must know these things for yourself.
@@SamaneriJayasara directly to the point ☝️ thanks!
@@SamaneriJayasara - what would you point your mind towards in jahana?
@@JaneDoherty-mp7co in first it's not. In second and higher it does.
ThankYou🙏
