    I visited the Buddhist Holy Site, Doi Suthep Temple, in Chiang Mai, Thailand with my sister who was there for her wedding. A monk walked right up to her and said, "you are getting married, that is very good!". Didn't know him, he had no way of knowing us. Apparently, all knowing, is there in the silence, for all to access.

    I genuinely feel as this is more precious than all the gold and diamonds in this world; and it was given freely only to benefit all beings, (a benefit) that will ensue from the end of suffering. One may possess all the wealth one can imagine and yet suffer unimaginably.
    But I believe (as hard as it may present itself and burden some of us) that suffering itself, if not avoided like the plague and if given the proper attention in order to unfold and tell its story, may spark those early whispers of insight and compassion.. thus it may serve as a great teacher.
    It was Buddha's teacher after all, among others, so it's not to be avoided but to learn from. Best wishes to all!

    I am not looking for a hand out. I know that I will have to let go of attachment to responsibility of taking care of others, that is my greatest attachment. How do I immerse myself fully to the truth without abandoning and cause suffering.
    I will never consider myself homeless, but will be in the eyes of others, or be concerned with starvation if I can forage, but they will struggle without me. My child, her mother, my mother fully emersed in our society will think I'm insane, I've excepted that, it's the suffering that I will eventually cause that I'm having the trouble with.
    Do I attempt to explain myself to them? Do I continue to be part of the world remotely, just enough to support them until I'm sure that they are self sufficient? I know I have to go with my heart, there are no writings or anything that anyone can say. I have moments of misery and moments of clarity when contemplating on this. If anyone has experience with this, I would listen.

    Maybe someone could be so kind as to help me with this. I first apologize because this is difficult to put into words, and I definitely don't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers, but I have questions....
    I really like the emphasis on one's own actual experience in this. And, while much of this is beyond me, I definitely identify with many of these concepts in my own experience. I watch myself as "good" and "bad" things happen to see what happens internally, and I do see that my clinging and labelling causes a sort of process of turmoil and disruption. To cultivate a sort of approach where I can sort of both be the specific me working in the world, but also detached in some way with a more calm me that is basically rooted in my awareness somehow seems to be an approach that is growing a more... happy me over time. (I'm sorry, it's difficult to put into words).
    My question is about the form of the renunciation described. I am wondering what is the role of creativity in this? is it being suggested that playing music, painting, poetry, dancing and other forms of expression are just sort of contributing to some kind of endless cycle of suffering that should be avoided by renouncing all creative action? Why do monks don robes and not express themselves in their clothing? Why do I not see monk musicians and unique painters? There's obviously that beautiful Japanese and Chinese painting, poetry and pottery.. Should we be expressing ourselves, or renouncing expression? Just as you can still be astonished my the specific delicate beauty of... say... a tiny desert flower, and yet just let it be, can't we create new forms of expression and send them into the universe without causing suffering?
    As a musician definately see how creative action benefits from non-attachment, to just be able to express myself without attachment to what was produced, or clinging to positive external affirmation. That said, by making something that has never been made before, in a room of other people experiencing something unique only to that event, is just what reality does... it's just expanding into ever more beautiful forms that are born and then decay over each other. Isn't this just what we do? I'm not sure I'm ready to sign up for renouncing this. I'm with the flowers, I'll continue to rise up in the morning dew and release my music to the air so to speak...

      Hi there! Firstly, I’m on this path deeply and I’m also a profession (Jazz) musician. I’ve asked similar questions for decades and have concluded with ease that first and foremost, everything, all phenomena is GOD or Universe. That means the music we make is not personal and it isn’t ours even though our minds tell us it is. My battle is between myself where the ego identifies me as the owner of the music. I’ve been hard at work to play and simply witness the playing. If I play “poorly” one day sure I get bummed but I also have this practice to remind me it is not “me” that’s getting bummed, it’s conditioning. You absolutely do not have to renounce such a beautiful gift that’s fully part of life, but one does need to approach life from the inside out, which actually doesn’t exist in the bigger picture but at the level of the mind the separation does exist and that’s where the Buddhist non-dualistic practice shines. You still live a lay persons life, no true teacher will tell you to move into a cave but they will always point in the same direction of non-attachment, compassion for self and others, and living from awareness, not conditioning, living in presence not the past or future. …A couple of amazing modern teachers along with the older masters such as in this video are GP Walsh, Lawrence Edwards, Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, etc… Start slowly by watching your mind, triggers, attachments. ❤

      @o0orayo0o 9 месяцев назад +1

      I understand you're problem, I'm an artist (visual artist), I don't remember what sutra it is but there is a sutra where a man inconspicuously plays and sings a song for the Buddha. The Buddha asks if he thought out the words before hand or did the word (lyrics) come to him on the spot. The man said the words came to him on the spot out of the inspiration he felt from seeing the Buddha. The Buddha condoned the mans singing songs that came to him on the spot and that were not thought out before hand.... So the idea that you have to abandon making music all together is false. Simply making a song is not creative if it is "mechanically" made, but a song made within the moment of inspiration is truly creative. An enlightened musician would never need to write a song because for them it would be like a never ending rap battle, all his sentences would rhyme and relate to the current situation. Listening to music that is irrelevant to enlightenment is what will stump your creative growth.
