Suggestion to anyone in chat asking for alternate moves: instead of asking "Why not x?" ask "Why y instead of x?" so it's easier for Danya to understand which move you mean.
Exactly this. Naro can often figure it out, but people do this constantly on twitch to 1500 players who have no chance of figuring out when you want to play x.
"The queen on d5 in these positions is very hard for white to attack." This was beautifully illustrated here since the queen didn't move from d5 for the rest of the game
"White played quite poorly overall" he says while he annhilates a 1900 rated player. Honestly astonishing how ridiculously unmatched I am sitting at a 1000 rating. I think one of the things that makes a person at ANY rating watch these videos is how Danya is able to make it seem relatable. I've said it before, but Danya is the one guy with the brain of a chess player, and the heart of a teacher. The only channel where I have post notifications turned on, and this video is one of many examples why that is.
It's amazing to see GM Danya move his queen once THE WHOLE GAME, to G5, on like move 4, and that queen remained there the rest of the game controlling that diagonal, totally unassailable, totally dominating.
Sorry, I'm getting old. Sometimes I'd see something and know what it is, but when it gets translated from the brain to the fingers, it goes haywire somehow. Count your Blessing if you never will expenerince this when you get old.
Opens the game with the alekhine and magically ends the game with alekine's gun (battery). The SeNsei once again reveals to us his otherwordly provenance
Interesting how in the last several games the opening has consistently been an issue, even at this rating. Thx to GM Danya for explaining the thought process even when he doesn’t remember the theory!🙏
White was only slightly worse out of the opening (that's why he shit on his opponents opening because white shouldn't be slightly worse but white was by no means losing out of the opening). White didn't attack on the queenside in the middle game, that was the problem. If I were playing black in this game of course I would lose because I am playing against a GM, but I would put up a better fight by attacking on the queenside.
Dany, I recently broke 1900 like a month ago and I have to say that watching you play your games with other 1900s is incredibly helpful in showing me that I still have a lot to learn regarding the dynamics of positional play. I absolutely love it, thanks for making content like this so that anyone can watch and really understand the logical reasoning of grandmasters. XD
i was surprised when you played rook H to E8. I thought with all these pawns advanced on the king side you were gonna do a pawn storm and attack on the king side and your rooks would like to be on that side.
I think it’s just depends how you want to play the position. He chose the path to dominate white through the middle of the board instead of down the H and G files
Was curious Daniel: whenever a king hasn't pushed any pawns in front of them(thus having created no hooks to attack) is pushing the h pawn generally the best method or does it depend on the position? Thanks for this great content!
It always depends on the position. Ultimately, pure calculation is the only way to decide on pawn moves. Pushing h6 often forces black to play g6, technically creating a hook by allowing you to open up the position through an f5 push. Pushing g6 'forks' two pawns, not allowing black to lock down the position at all, although you have to calculate whether the end result is favorable. Pushing f6 is similar to h6, but the square is often defended and you also weaken/lose a pawn closer to the center for no reason.
Loving the content! Thanks for your hard work; if i could make a small request maybe you could spend a bit more time and show a couple more lines after you punish an opponents opening/early middle game mistake. See some more of their practical (although ineffective) defensive resources and why you are still better
Your videos are a great help to guys like me, who want to improve and have difficulty understanding the thought process of strong players. Many thanks for making speedruns like this! ~a 1500 rated player who wants to improve
2:34 it's insane how nonchalantly you mention that tactic. Kb8 Nxe4, if black aims to trade the bishops and then capture the knight, black inserts Nxc6+ before recapturing the bishop. You moved your king into the path of the knight.
It's not that hard too see. You are calculating forced lines and if you have been playing games in a longer time format (15+0 or 10+5), it should be immediate. The only reason people fail to see such lines is because they play on instinct (usually due to blitz) and not even calculate two move ahead.
I live so close to him ( NC ) would give the world to play him in a game or two. I’d pay serious money but these GMs have better things to do than to squash nobodies. I will be happy with just these videos in the meantime then.
I have played the Alekhine in about 5000 3 minute games and I have won over 70% of the games where White play Nc3 and trades on d5 after Black plays d5. I clamp down of the d4 square after I put Bc8-g4 with e5 and c5 and do short castle as I have read in countless books on strategy that if you control the center then you can attack. I am not saying this is the best or only way to go bu I have found it does create more problems for White. Please give it a try.
Could you make more of these videos playing the Kings Indian Defence? Would be really cool to see your experience with the opening show, since you mostly will play the Caro-Kann in these speedruns
I get this position all the time because I play the scandi modern and for some reason the unwise knight trade shown is what most people do in blitz. I think because it gets rid of your kingside knight. Anyway in I've never seen a video on this variation but within two days both you and Levy player a scandi modern successfully. Maybe it will finally get attention.
Happy to see you go into this line Danya. As black I play the modern Scandinavian and often get into a position like yours where I push all of the kingside pawns after castling queenside. I often get in trouble by overextending the pawns and have to meticulously craft an attack as white just defends pretty easily.
I've been studying the Alekhine's and following your speed runs and I decided to find another game to study and this popped up. Your content is incredible thank you so much
Was curious Daniel: whenever a king hasn't pushed any pawns in front of them(thus having created no hooks to attack) is pushing the h pawn generally the best method or does it depend on the position? Thanks for this great content!
Maybe you could line up queen bishop battery toward h7 or some other similar idea in order to force them to push a pawn? I seem to remember Danya talking about that.
22:04 What about f3 for white? Trying to open either the f file or gain the f3 square for the knight has to be good. And it doesn't weaken the king all that much
2100 here, not the worst try for White to untangle, but indeed, the open gfile for black with even weaker pawn structure for White + open dark Square diagonal (a7 - b1) for blacks Bishop. These facts make f3 less of an Good move. But i would probably play it in Blitz. The position is really just a slow death for White, in longer Time controls atleast. Go f3 in Blitz and create complications. As i Always say, play aggressive Chess if you want to improve.
G3 instantly wins for black. G3 forks pawn and rook, forcing White to take, black recaptures with rook and can later go Qg8 or something, creating unstoppable mating attack.
"White played quite poorly overall..." I mean, maybe, but you didn't blow him off the board in 8 moves, which is all I want out of your opponents in the speedrun. Hate the shorty episodes. Well, I mean I still love them. I just hate that they're short.
But he did reduce his opponent to nothing but moving his bishop 4 times, giving danya 4 moves to improve meaning the opponent was going to be forever stuck 4 tempo behind. It's fun to watch but it doesn't really put up a game of any difficulty. It's fun when there's chances for both sides imo.
White played passively. White didn’t attempt to challenge your opening. White didn’t seek counterplay by trying to attack your king in the middlegame and also played Ng5 which lost too much time h6 and g5.
This is one of my favorite speedrun games. Other than playing extremely passively and without an attacking plan in an opposite side castle position (itself a pretty bad strategic mistake), white didn’t make any immediately obvious blunders until the end so with patient play Danya won beautifully. I love this series
@@Excludeinfinityopposite side castling positions are generally races for who can break open the opponents king defence first and go for checkmate, as when kings are on opposite sides, you can push pawns towards your opponents king to break open their defense, without having to worry about opening up your own king by pushing the pawns.
