    Here's the bench I think we're going to go with. bit.ly/3TxS4Gu
    The Monarch 6ft. It's actually the same bench we got for behind the greenhouse except that one was 5ft.

      I love the way you both did the circle in the cutting garden. It’s going to be gorgeous!
      Oh, when we had our fish pond, a friend
      made me a floater thing. It refilled the pond when it got too low automatically. It looks like you could do that with the fountain. Sure would be easier.
      Laura when you mentioned the heels of your feet hurting, I bought insoles on Amazon. They really helped. They fit inside your shoes.

    In my opinion, if you're going to place large benches where multiple people sit on them at once it is a more pleasant experience to have a curved bench rather than to sit in a straight line where people have to lean over to talk to someone at the other end of the bench.

    • @jenniferbrooks-rieck8797

      Agree, I think a curved bench would be more pleasing to conversations and visually. Not that anything looks bad that they do, quite the opposite. Everything is beautiful!

      I don't think that matching the exact curvatures is at all necessary. Another advantage of a curved bench is that it is a repetition of shapes, curved shapes. This is always pleasing to the eye.

      Agreed. The straight bench was jarring and completely at war with the curve. Repeating shapes are restful to the eye, even when they don't match exactly. The eye sees the repetition, not the exact measurements. ~ Lisa

    Have you considered a small gazebo in the center instead of a fountain? It would be a respite from the hot sun; you could sit multiple people together for conversation while admiring the beautiful cut flower gardens. Just a thought. It'll be wondeful whatever you do.

    Just my opinion, but as an architectural designer, I would think a curved bench would be more suited to that space. With the curve of the circle, a curved bench would be more consistent and look like they were designed with the space in mind.

    • @CharliecatII

    • @richlandzee8686
      @richlandzee8686 Год назад

      Depends on the circle size. The bigger the circle, the more awkward the curved bench. Another thing which comes to mind is if you buy a 55" curved TV and a flat TV, sit 2 feet away and 8 feet away when you watch a movie and see if you notice any immersiveness of the curve. TV manufacturer do this so they can charge more for it but it didn't work. Let's see how this turns out in the end.

    I think the curved benches would look great, you need to remember it’s not a solid block as the cardboard represents. It’s light and airy with air and light showing. Also, the soil you’re digging in…is it now all supplemented with Espoma or just where the gardens are? Love seeing your vision come to life!

    When you think about the bench shape, remember that it's not going to look the same as a cardboard template sitting on the ground. It will be elevated with lots of other elements feeding information to the eye. If you look at other places where circular fountains of that size are installed, most of the time you'll see that curved benches are used. There's a reason for that. ~ Lisa
    P.S. Love the idea of lollipop trees. Not so sure about more boxwoods. They seem a bit formal for this area.

    You could still have flowers ringing the fountain with stepping stones at four pints for access to mirror the garden patches. I love the idea of the cone boxwoods for some evergreen interest. I vote for the curved benches. The arcs complement each other (they don’t need to be exact) and the curve of the bench does allow for better conversation and also emphasizes your circle. Love the fountain idea and I vote annuals around the fountain, not boxwoods. Annuals would give you flexibility each year.

    I think that maybe if you got a fountain that size (something like the one that broke in the side yard next to the barn), it might look too large compared to the flower shed.
    To me, the flower shed has a meadowy cottage feel, and a large fountain has more of a French estate feel, it might clash because they're two large structures in close proximity.
    What do you guys think?

    YES! IN GROUND, IN GROUND IS THE RIGTH ANSWER hahaha, but really...it is. a simple 4 brick high circle with stone top, and a single water jet in the middle.

    Love the idea of the 4 crapapples and 8 pyramidal boxwoods.
    I know you’ve wanted a fountain there forever, but color me surprised Aaron didn’t suggest a specimen tree right in the center there.
    There’s still time, Aaron. Centerpiece tree?
    😂❤❤ That would be my vote, but I’m a tree fanatic like Aaron, sooo…. 🙋🏼‍♀️ biased!

    This is gonna be an exciting project. Can’t wait to see what you decide. You two remind me of me and my husband doing a project together, bouncing ideas and different ways of looking at things. It usually comes out great in the end. I know this will be beautiful.

    A big fountain will look amazing there. Random question...how are your spring bulbs progressing? Could we please have a tour of your early spring bulbs, then another of your mid to late spring bulbs once the cherries & apple trees are blooming? It would be lovely to see your parents spring bulbs as well. I thinks lots of us would love to see the spring bulbs as the start blooming if you are happy to show us?

    I too vote for curved benches… even if the curve isn’t exactly the same as the large circle, each of the benches’ curves would match each other and that would be a pleasing unifying effect… like a Celtic knot, or even a flower…

    It is so educational and fun to watch you and Aaron work through these projects. You even added recess, "Here I am, driving...", and "Now let's pretend I have to get somewhere in a hurry."😂 I am redesigning my front yard beds, and you showed some how-to pieces I needed to know. Class dismissed! Another day you will show what to plant and how. I'm raising my hand to ask if you could move the unneeded sod to the bald spots, or do you have to grow this type of grass from seed? Y'all are great teachers!

    Hi! I’m excited to see how this turns out! I would have loved to see a drone shot of the paint lines so I could get an idea of what the the whole project will look like when finished. Love your videos. Waiting for spring!!

    I vote for the curved bench. Maybe you could spray paint the outline of your template in each area, make a template of rectangular bench and paint with contrasting color, then get a drone shot to compare. Good luck.

    Hi Laura and Aaron! It was fun watching you two figuring out what you want in the center of the cut flower garden. I agree with the majority of comments below to go with the curved benches. IMO, the straight ones are too harsh. Also, no to the boxwoods lining the beds. The cone shaped ones will look nice, and the crab apple standards would be pretty. Also, no to a large fountain since it will hide the view of the flower shed. There are some good ideas in the comments for a low basin with a fountain in the center. The kids would enjoy that, too. Thank you so much for sharing!

  • @carolinaochoa7900
    @carolinaochoa7900 Год назад +2

    Ohhh, four lollipop crabapples would look lovely! And don’t worry about the curve of the benches not matching the one of the bigger circle exactly. Imagine if it had to match hardly anybody would be able to use those benches.
