    I'm a 63 yo lady! I've just started my first walking stick and I'm so excited!! No idea what I'm doing but it's my hearts desire. I love it!     You're the most Canadian person I've ever seen lol
    I was commissioned to make a walking stick for someone, which was way out of my norm. I hope mine turns out as good as this. Thanks for the tip to use an angle grinder at the start. I wouldn't have thought of that.

    When you said it is "Common sense" but some people may have no clue.
    I am one never having done woodwork. I go to an auction and they always have tools very cheap.
    Bought a nice Dremel for $20 got 2 now - and Jigsaws, grinders, chopsaws. I am excited to try some of your projects.

    Interesting. I've made canes for a bunch of years, but no walking stick; but been planning on making one, but will use a 2x4. I would never make one like you did, but what the Hell, that is for you and you seem quite pleased with it - which is what counts. Nice work.

    I think you should put a nice natural small rock in the top of the stick ,above the wood spirit head and face. It'd look cool. What you think?(Robin)

    Happy Trails that Arbutis stick will get you a long way. Fun designs are neat on them! Canes can be nice to carve as well.

    Great idea using the grinder to cut the prep time Great ideas on the hand grip Jordy 💡 👍 The burning of the cracks is a fantastic idea as I've collect some sticks for walking sticks and thought they were useless because of the cracks I did one years ago when I found your channel but after watching this I want to attack it and redo it I'm not sure about your new style bit I think you have to have alot of carving experience to use it in a delicate carve A simple carve for you and still looks amazing Love it Thanks Jordy 😊

    Geordie have you thought about putting epoxy resin to fill in cracks.macking walking sticks is how I got into carving.all the carvings you have don is just brilliant.so keep doing what you do best so I can lurn

    Jordy I have made walking sticks with just a knife...BUT after following you for a while now, I need some tools. I especially love what you do with a Dremel and now I am on the hunt for a used one.
    Thanks so much for this video, in particular, I am going to give it a go. I have a dozen sticks still with the bark on but now I know I HAVE BEEN PICKING THE WRONG SIZED STICK and gotta try the way YOU CARVE OUT A HANDLE AND TOPPED OFF WITH THE "WOOD SPIRIT".

    Sweet stick man👍 I've carved a few but it takes me a lot longer than you with your fancy pants two working hands , I walk with a stick because of my left side weakness I find that a bigger stick like the one you just carved is much better because when you're out walking and stop to take in the wild life or whatever you can rest your chin on the top .

    Around my neck of the woods is an invasive bush called honeysuckle that I’ve found to make excellent walking sticks with little effort, you just need to find a straight one cut it green let it dry in a jig to keep it straight for about six months. Leave them outside out of the sun with the bark on, these sticks are hard lightweight but very sturdy. By the way how do you heat your shop... work faster?

    Awsome! My Dremel 4300 just arrived and I've never drawn or carved a damn thing! I am confused about shank size for burrs. Will a 4300 accept multiple sizes and then just tighten them down?

      Shank size 1/8 for dremel , 1/4 for die grinders or foredom

    Arbutus wood is very hard , after drying for a year it's like concrete. Trees with leaves that fall off are hard wood including Balsa.

    I wish you could see some of the Spiral walking sticks that I have they're natural spirals done by Nature she does a fantastic job. if you don't know how to find them I'm going to tell you the edge of clearings where honeysuckles grow that's the best place to find a natural spiral in a walking stick you can even find them larger with the spiral on them that make good ornamental posts or banisters anything you want to use them for cuz they're in all sizes just a little tip. thanks for your video I'm getting me one of those Dremel Cutters like that that's excellent I've never seen them

    I was making a short spear handle out of walnut and 3 pieces exotic wood I've had for 30 years and after sanding, my skin broke out with rashes. Some wood dust is real toxic. FYI. Nice dust mask you have.

    Hey Jordy ya might’ve just given me an idea about a problem I’ve been having;
    I’m lookin to get away from sitting there forever carving away 2.5 inches of top layer of hard wood on a relief carving with an extreme burr. Takes frickin forever and those dang cutting wheels just scare me too much.
    Would that mampa cutter maybe fit the bill?

      Manpa cutter is good as Long as u have your piece of wood in a vise or secured yup , but I just showed how well a 36 grit sanding disk works too

    I use a knife to remove the bark. Keep it real. Really hurts my arthritic wrists!
