    Great video. Glad I found your channel. My 2003 Ford Ex won't start. I can hear the fuel relay and fuel pump come on but I can't get ignition. Car will fire if I use starter fluid but it just will not run on its own. I think the issue may derive from some bad gas...maybe debris. Maybe injector problem. Car stopped cranking two years ago and it has sat since then. (!) I do know the basics: fuel/air/spark. But without a code reader it's very hard to pin point the issue...

    Awesome video. I am a new subscriber and recently started following your channel. I have a 2003 expedition with 170k miles and recently developed a bad misfire in cylinder number 8 according to my mechanic who has a diagnostic scanner. He told me that there is a chance the plug could break (50% likely) and at that point major work costing thousands could be required to fix the vehicle. The vehicle is not worth putting thousands of dollars into at this point. I called the Ford dealership in my area and they essentially told me the same thing. I don't trust the dealership but I do trust my mechanic. It seems odd to me that replacing the spark plug and coil which seem to be a routine part of maintenance could result in such problems. I'd love your input on this and if the risk is high does it make sense to only replace the bad plug and coil instead of all 8? Looking forward to hearing from you and keep the great videos coming!!

    • @Sellthoseflippingcars
      @Sellthoseflippingcars  Год назад +2

      Yes, the spark plugs have a chance of breaking. This engine is known for that issue and nothing is going to change that, besides bathing the spark plug in some PB Blaster for 15 minutes before removing the spark plugs. I have done this job not only on the Expedition but the F150 as well, your mechanic is not the only one that fears of these spark plugs breaking. I would not do the job though because of this. This is a nice vehicle and not doing the simple maintenance because of the risk is not enough for me to not do the job. I say bath it with PB blaster or WD40, remember when removing it, patience. If you feel it binding, back off, but bath it before you attempt removal. Thank you for watching, I hope this helps!

      @@Sellthoseflippingcars No codes, but there is a slight tick and an intermittent rough idle. I'm not sure if the performance has been affected, because its always felt slow compared to my daily driver, which is a whipple supercharged 5.0 f150.
      I do also have a pulley that just started making noise, This winter ill take off the belt and spin each one by hand. Honestly I'll probably just replace all the free spinning pulleys. And the return line in the fuel pump has started loosing pressure when it sits for more than a couple minutes. I need to prime the pump twice for it to fire up. I've already bought the new pump, I just need to drive er a bit longer because the fuel tank is plumb full. I'm pretty mechanically capable, I just haven't spent much time on the 5.4 engines. All my other vehicles are either old school small blocks or gen 3 and gen 4 coyotes.
      Yeah it flooded the same time calgary flooded. High river has bumped up their flood prevention system since then, if it floods again, calgary downtown and lower laying communities will be wiped off the map.

To remove a coil loosen the nut that is holding it into place pull up words on the ignition coil. You will hear a quiet pop this is the ignition coil disconnecting from the spark plug. Make sure when you take the ignition coil off that the spring inside is still with the ignition coil. If you have not removed your ignition coils recently or have missed your maintenance in a role you might have troubles with removing your ignition coil. How do I put in the spark plugs

    • @Sellthoseflippingcars
      @Sellthoseflippingcars  2 года назад +1

      I usually put the spark plug in my spark plug socket then lower it into the spark plug well. First loosening it so I make sure that it is sitting flush on the threads then tighten it. Do not over tighten because you do run the risk of breaking the spark plug off in the cylinder head

      If you are having several misfires you probably have a vacuum leak. Check the vacuum hoses which will be the rubber hoses around the intake manifold. In the video I show you which ones come off. Check those on your engine to see if they are loose. Having a vacuum leak will increase the air the engine is getting and will throw off the air to fuel ratio causing multiple misfires.

      A misfire is a faulty spark plug, spark plug wire, or coil pack. In this situation it was a faulty spark plug because the previous owner never maintained it.
