What a trippy movie it would have been if the "desired" casting choices had been realized: Shirley Temple as Dorothy, W.C. Fields as the Wizard, Gale Sondergaard as a glamorous Wicked Witch, and Fanny Brice as Glinda.
Margaret Hamilton, as the WWOTW, was the absolute greatest casting decision in the history of Hollywood. I knew a lot about her, and have quite a collection of WWOTW memorabilia, but this is surprisingly the first time I learned that she was only around 5' tall.
Miss Sondergaard played the evil cat Tylette in a human form in the Shirley Temple film The Blue Bird after The Wizard of Oz came out. The cat was more wicked than the witch.
Snow White - the Wicked Queen was actually based on Sondergaard. Disney used her as the basis for his cartoon portrayal of that witch as well. How much of a coincidence?
. The Jim Backus one sadly is 100% false and easily debunked. I could not find the originator of the tale despite the story being everywhere, including IMDB and countless other sites and videos. Backus was born in 1913 and would've been in kindergarten around 1918, when Margaret Hamilton was still in high school. She got her kindergarten credential from Wheelock College in 1923, so no way Backus would have been a kindergarten student of Margaret as he would have been 10 years old the first year she was a kindergarten teacher.
Have you done a DEEP DIVE Video into "The Judy Garland Show" (CBS), 1963 to 1964. She did 26 Episodes, and then CBS cancelled her due to ratings. They pitted her up against "Bonanza" which was on the other channel at the same time as Judy's Sunday Night Slot. So she didn't stand a chance... (It would Make for a good video for you)
Great idea! I was hoping to find the segment of Margaret and Judy on Judy's show for this but couldn't find anything but a very short clip. I love your idea, and plan on doing it now, thanks!!!
Gee whiz I don't think she was that bad looking. Besides I don't know what you people are talking about here??? People are far too long on looks great to see!!! No good for us!!!

Thank you!
Great job - always interesting content.

First time I view her story and now about this wicked witch 🧙

Congratulations!🥳
Thanks!
FYI- she was NOT the kindergarten teacher of Backus or Windom if you research further. Also, she was the 3rd choice for WW if you research more.
Why would he claim that? Send me a link to the info please.

@@donbillie1883 Interesting. I will start looking into this and see what I can come up with.
Buddy Ebsen was almost the tin man,too if not for some complications.
