Have you ever used one of these lenses? Did you enjoy shooting with it? Also, what about this "on location" tipe of review, do you like it? DO you want to see more reviews like this one? Let me know!
Yes!... I started with Pentax, and the old film cameras many years ago. These old Pentax SMC lenses are fantastic. I think Pentax was (as still is) greatly underrated.
I have owned the same SMC Pentax M 50mm 1.7 since I attended film school in 1995, while taking a photography class and it laid around my house in drawers for 25 years. My young son would play around with it on my old Ricoh camera. I was clueless until I discovered vintage lenses about a year and half ago. Surprisingly the lens has zero scratches. I tried it on my G85 Lumix and it was flawless. Probably my sharpest 50MM lens. I'd say sharper than my Super Takumar 55mm F2. I also own the Helios 44M 58mm, the Minolta Rokkor PF F1.4, the RIcho Rikenon 50mm, Yashica ML 50mm and I love all of them for different reasons, but if I had to pick one lens, it would be the SMC Pentax M 50mm. The SMC Pentax M 50mm 1.7 is well built. It renders beautiful colors and creamy bokeh. The focus ring is smooth and it has great handling. Great lens if you can find it. I'd say it's underrated.
I have a few of the 50 mm lenses but my most favorite is the smc 1.7 f series. The f series overall is my favorite. Using them on my pentax K-50 and superb colors as well as excellent focus and sharp image.
I use the Pentax-A SMC f1.7 for portraits on my Fuji X-T2. It is an absolutely beautiful lens, wonderful dreamy portraits. Very sharp, but different to modern lenses because the images are warm and magical in a way that modern lenses just don't replicate. I might have a particularly good example, because at F1.7 the images are sharp by any standards, but from f2 the lens is very sharp indeed. I normally shoot in B&W, but I love the colours too, so natural and beautiful straight from the Fuji camera (and different to the colours I get with my Fuji lenses). It's one of my favourite lenses and I really enjoy shooting manually.
You can't go wrong with these lenses can you! Wonderful review mate, love your part of the world...my god. You showcase what it can do REALLY well! Thank you for this!
Well, if it's an Asahi Pentax M 50mm 1.7, then you can't zoom. It's a fixed lens, also known as a prime lens. Zoom lenses have a range, 24-70mm for example. I assume the Lumix G2 has a micro four thirds sensor, so yes, it would be very zoomed in, equivalent to a 100mm lens. I know, it might be a little confusing. Anyways, with this lens you can't zoom. Hopefully that helped, feel free to ask if you have mose questions.
Love your channel! What is the focus throw in degrees for this lens? I have the 55mm 1.8 and it's an impressive 300 degrees. The 50mm 1.4 is 200 degrees so I'm curious what this one is. Thanks!

Im using this lens all the times its sharp at 1.7 ,if you like warmer tones try Tamron vintage lenses like CF35-70 f3.5 or 28mm 2.5, 80-210 (103A)
@@toforbiddenshores I'll make sure to get them, if I find any! ;)

Indeed!
They decided to revive the film line with a new SLR seemingly coming out.

It's cool you managed to keep hold on that lens for 25 years and that you keep using it! and I agree, it really has beautiful colors!

The F series usually gets ignored because of the plastic bodies, but it is good!
@@MarcoAries personally i love the design. The 50 mm f series is coveted expecially the 1.4 i have the 1.7. That one is staying in my kit

Thanks man, just trying to spread the love for old glass! ;)
@@MarcoAries We need more ambassadors ;)
Enjoyed you video dude. I really like the Pentax M series of lenses. They're nice and compact and well made. The M 35mm 2.8 is nice too.
Thanks! Yeah, they're my favorite vintage line.
The 35 is one of the few I still haven't tried, it's hard to find...
This is not the radioactive one right
I don't think so, but I can't say for sure...
The K series lenses aren’t radioactive. It’s the ones made before that
always a fan of old glass
Can't beat the value! ;) Btw, I was checking your channel, great work!
On 1:39 video clip, what lens did you use to film? I like the vintage look.
That part was shot on a Sony 18-105 f4 with a variable ND filter in front of it. At the end of the video you can see a couple unedited blooper clips.
its not bad at all. beautiful
It really is!
hey i have theses lens, and i use them with a lumix g2 and it’s really zoomed in and i don’t know who to zoom out

I bought this lens with my Pentax ME Super in 1982. Today I use it with my Canon 80D. Sad it wont work with Canon full frame...
It's nice that you hold on to it since 1982! But, why do you say it won't work on full frame? All vintage 35mm film lenses cover full frame sensors
This is radioactive version? Ive got one serial No. 3625XXX
Can't say, I don't have a Giger counter, but to be honest I don't even care, they're not harmful
The K series aren’t radioactive.
Bel video e riprese top!
Grazie Sara!
This lens is my daily driver with my Pentax K-30.
It's a really nice piece of glass, I've found myself going back to it for many different jobs!

Thank you, I'm glad you like the channel! The focus throw is roughly 220° on this model
