  • I interviewed Michael Bloomfield in his Marin County home in 1975. The interview has never been published or used, except for a couple of minutes' worth in the Bob Sarles 2013 film, "Sweet Blues: A Film About Michael Bloomfield." Here it is for the first time in its entirety.

It is so nice to listen to Bloomfield talk, to listen to a blues/ rock guitarist who is not trying to sound " cool" or "stoned" or every other word is "far out", how refreshing to listen to an articulate, intelligent sounding guitar player.

Most blues/rock guitar players I listen to in an interview sound all stoned, or they mumble, or they laugh at shit that's not funny or their talking to themselves or talking about things that don't make sense or they are trying to sound cool But Mike Bloomfield is just straight up articulate and intelligent, how extremely refreshing!

Great interview. Michael was so intelligent and articulate. I play his Electric Flag and Super Session stuff all the time. I am going to try to get into East West. His views on Dylan are so though provoking. Great interview. I've been looking for the film but can't seems to find it anywhere, not on Amazon, etc.

Really great to hear this. As with countless other fans we would have all liked to have talked to Mike in person. Very impactful to hear about his views on drug addiction and how he expected Janis to OD/die and how he was over his drug taking and then we all know how he died. Thanks for sharing this.

Bloomfield bared his soul . I was sorry to hear how Dylan behaved. sounds like he suffered burnout and didn't feel music like Bloomfield

He started talking about the difference in voices or singing quality between
Elton John and Dylan, he was right , Elton was 100's the singer that Dylan
was , Dylan wasn't really about singing he was about story telling.

8:30 This comment really stands out, where Michael talks about
Dylan singing or playing alone, it's great, but Dylan with some players
that don't know how to compliment the song is a disaster, better alone, or
with players that understand how to fit in with the song.

Bob Dylan is proven a genius musician and writer of songs, but he's not mr personality, although Bloomfield did say he was more personal earlier... I think Dylan and his art became an industry... it was all about the business of presenting it as efficiently (and mechanically) as possible. If you've seen him when his voice went weird, deep, he never cracked a smile. There is a doc about a drummer who played in his band for a couple seasons (or less) when he actually had a rather large band... Bob was the boss who never talked much and when he didn't like you he had someone else fire you.

actually my the opposite he gave up. his first records he tried really hard because he was making it. i have read interviews of him putting sub par effort in.
