My wife and I rode the train about 2years ago she forgot her sunglasses and wore my reading glasses to keep the cinders out of her eyes as we were just behind the engine and tender. But we loved the ride!Great video as usual!
The first time to Dollywood, Katie (192) was in service, just got back from Dollywood a week ago (Dec 23rd) and Cinderella (70) was in service. What a difference in experiences between the 2 locomotives. Katie definitely seemed to struggle more with the grade than Cinderella and I definitely LOVED her whistle more. If you love trains its worth it to experience both if you can, not sure if they post a type of schedule ahead of time detailing which engine will be in service?
It's because it is the same type- Southern Railway Step Top 3 chime. 4501's whistle was made in Princeton, Indiana. But they pretty much have the same sound. Southern 154 in Knoxville also wore this whistle for a photo charter last year.
That’s because 4501’s whistle was tuned to sound similar to the one on 192. 4501’s whistle is actually about 1 1/2 inches shorter than 192’s. The reason for this is that the Southern Railway used whistles from both its foundry in Princeton Indiana, and its foundry in Lenoir City Tennessee. The Princeton 3 chimes are short and high pitched, while the Lenoir City 3 chimes are taller and lower pitched.
I was there that day too. I have no idea how I never actually saw you. I think I may have been in the first shot on the 4th coach if that was the 3:00 run.
I went to Dollywood last week and 71 looked like 79 she’s back

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the ride, it's one of my favorites.

Awesome video. Hopefully I can get my footage from this summer edited soon. Life has been hectic. I never tire hearing this old gal climb the grade.
I wonder if they’ll put that whistle on 192 or 70 for the 2023 season?
I actually know the fireman in that video. He was my freshman year algebra teacher in high school
Also the whistle sounds like a mix between a southern railway one and one I heard at cass
Great video composition.
Thank you!
Have to say Dollywood had my favorite train cause they’re all mean they are real steamers and they still use coal
I'd go just for the white pass locomotives because I've been to skagway and rode behind engine 73
I'm going there next week on Friday!
Cool, hope you have a good time!
I will thanks
The whistle almost sounds like southern 4501’s whistle to me.

This is the whistle the engine wore when it first started at Rebel Railroad in 1961.

I'm just glad they got rid of the cinder catcher

That's crazy. It took me so long to edit that I've forgotten which run was which, but I'm pretty sure that shot was earlier than 3.
When will you be there for Christmas
Sometime in the week before Christmas, don't know when exactly. I'd like to do it on a weekday so that the crowd will be at least slightly smaller.
what is that whistle?
southern 3 chime LOL
Rebel Railroad style southern 3 chime (Lenoir City cast)
I was there on the day this was filmed too bad we didn't bump into each other
What a coincidence, hope you enjoyed the park as much as I do!
I definitely did
Nice!
When was the automatic bell ringer installed?
There isn't one, you can see the fireman ringing the bell at 4:05
Great footage! Where will you be going in 2019?
