You HAVE TO see his movie The Jazz Singer!!! Awesome movie, but the critics were so hard on him, he never did another movie again. Desi Arnez and Lawrence Olivier. Just a fantastic movie!
Omgosh yesssss oh yesssss!!! They are just so fire together, love them so much!!!!🥰💑 Also, I have to mention that absolute fire "Play Me" duet with Shirley Bassey will just....make u melt into a puddle of love..lol 🥰🥰🥰
The Greatest song about a Dad!!! "The Leader of the Band"-Dan Fogelberg who left us in 2007.....Very meaningful song...you Will be touched....thankyou Jamel.....Paul
Neil doesn't get the respect he deserves. The Jazz Singer has to be mentioned when talking about great soundtracks and is a solid remake. But his entire catalog should be shown more love. Thanks for reminding me of how good it is!!!!!
Music critics are often full of it. The general public usually likes anything that's really, really good if they get a chance to hear it. And the general public loves Neil Diamond. If I were him I'd have laughed at Rolling Stone giving all my albums two stars. Best selling albums. The absolute top concert draw in the U.S several years running! He got the love that matters.
This is from the remake of the Jazz Singer. The original was the first talkie ever, and this was remade with Neil as the lead and Sir Lawrence Olivier as his father.
Yes it is. Neil reached a peak as singer/songwriter in 1976 with the Beautiful Noise album. But between 1977 and the Jazz Singer soundtrack. He had very Adult Contemporary albums with inclusive hit songs sprinkled in working with outside songwriters a lot more. But his last 4 or 5 albums of the past 20 years leading to his recent health related retirement. Were really quite good. With moments of substantial greatness throughout. He is a fully realized music icon. The Jazz Singer had 3 instant classic hits. His vocals had reached a peak of sensitive warmth meets masculine grit and had become one of the finest Pop vocalists of the era and his generation.
Neil & I are star-crossed lovers, he doesn't know I exist. When I was single he was married, when I got married, he was single. Did I mention he doesn't know I exist?
Scott DeBerg Right, the single has an additional stanza that starts, "You need what you need, you can say what you want..." also Neil sang, "Gave you my heart" instead of "Gave me your heart" as be did here, ^man^ is this a song to sng along with when someone's just shredded your heart. 😫 ❤️
Neil Diamond was one of my great favourites growing up. This was from a wonderful film, a remake, called 'The Jazz Singer'. The original was made by Al Jolson. Love from the UK
Yes it is from “The Jazz Singer” from which Neil Diamond starred with Lucy Arnaz and Sir Laurence Oliver. Good movie but panned by the critics. Neil never did another movie. He wrote the music for the movie.
It is a movie ! The jazz singer 1980 ! Great movie ! This scene is he was going to sell this song his lyrics to that Rock dude and Neal didn’t like how he was going to do it , so he asked if he could show guy , how he wrote it and show him how he wanted it and then of course the guy didn’t want to hear it so Neil took the song and did himself
One of my many favs of Neil Diamond....my heart is touched with everything the man sings. I grew up on Neil and many memories of my family are wrapped around this wonderful mans songs and that voice. His voice is so peaceful and familiar. Family days out on the boat, camping, fishing, at home playing pool or just sitting around talking....Neil would be playing in the background. We all loved hearing him sing.. Memories flood back with certain songs. I can remember where I was and what I was doing with everyone. God bless ✌
It is from a movie, THE JAZZ SINGER. Watch the video from the movie called COMING TO AMERICA. His Dad is not in support of Neil’s character going into the music business and not having a future in the synagogue. The end of the movie, he finally comes to see what his son is talking about with wanting to sing.
Yep, the movie is “the jazz singer” loosely based on Neil Diamond's real life. His parents wanted him to be a rabbi but he has dreams of being a famous singer, singing Secular songs. So it’s a struggle between his relationship with his father and mother and his life long dream.
This is the official video version from the movie "The Jazz Singer", but it isn't the full, original version of the song that was released. You should listen to the entire song, it's a couple minutes longer. It has more lyrics, and he repeats the chorus again. "America" is another great song from "The Jazz Singer", and so is "Hello Again".
Hey! My mom and Aunt saw him in concert in the late 80s or early 90s. Someone came to them and brought them up to the front row. They said they could feel his sweat. Ha ha. He has other goodies, too. I love "Love on the Rocks" from "The Jazz Singer," I think or "Forever in Blue Jeans," too may be from that movie? (OOPS! EDIT: Not "Forever in Blue Jeans" but "Hello Again," "America," and "Love on the Rocks.") Also, I really dig "Forever in Blue Jeans," played on the radio all the time though I thought it was funny (I was young). Anyway, here are some more hits you probably already have: "September Morn (ballad)," "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" duet with Barbra Streisand for some forgettable movie but great song, "Play Me," "Holly Holy" (possibly blasphemous but he's not a Christian, so...no offense, just, I don't care what his beliefs are, the song is beautiful), "Song Sung Blue," "Hello Again" (for remake of "The Jazz Singer" - again - with Lucille Ball's daughter, Lucie Arnaz, acting, not singing), "Long Fellow Serenade," "Solitary Man," "Yesterday's Songs," "You Got to Me," "Beautiful Noise," "Desire'e," "Thank the Lord for the Night Time," "Cherry Cherry," and "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon" are some big ones I'm sure have been suggested. He sang "Heartlight" for "E.T." Reminds me of Debbie Boone's song, "You Light Up My Life (the movie aspect, same movie name, different actress in film, Debbie Boone just sang it.), daughter of Pat Boone - a family-friendly singer, I guess. Knocked it out of the park although these movies were forgettable. Diana Ross was in "Mahogany" in the 70s, the song "Do You Know Where You're Going To" is from that movie. It's also called the "Theme from Mahogany." Just suggestions if you or anyone sees anything they like. Enjoy your night! Thanks for your videos! ("Love Stinks" was all green, couldn't see it, never saw that before...weird.)
Mr. Diamond is a wordsmith his songs tell amazing stories and you are drawn in. This song is so heartfelt and emotional. In the movie the "rock star" wanted it very upbeat, he objected and was tossed.
As everyone else has said, the film is "The Jazz Singer". Treat yourself and watch it sometime. It's well worth it. He has some great songs on it. The "Shitty Producer" at the end giving the ironic handclaps is Paul Nicholas who played the title role in the first stage version of "Jesus Christ Superstar."
This clip is from the movie "The Jazz Singer'" It stars Neil Diamond, Lawrence Olivier and Lucy Arnaz. Many of his hits came from this movie...the ending song to this movie was one of his biggest hits "America."

@ Michael Lynch I agree America is a great song
Neil Diamond-"PLAY ME" Wonderfully BEAUTIFUL ROMANTIC SONG!!
One of, if not my favorite songs by the Jewish Elvis! And "I Am, I Said."
Please react to "I Am, I Said"!! It is so powerfully moving. "Play Me" a close 2nd.
As a child, this song was ABSOLUTELY mesmerizing!
Indeed. I was in seventh grade when I first heard it.
Neil & I are star-crossed lovers, he doesn't know I exist. When I was single he was married, when I got married, he was single. Did I mention he doesn't know I exist?
