Well nothing, but the gunner isn't necessarily the smartest person in the room. However, that's definitely whom they want to be seen as! They're constantly asking questions during lectures to prove how insightful they are, and they don't have many qualms about doing so at the expense of their class mates. For example by asking a classmate who is speaking tricky questions about their topic to try to trip them up, or flat out correcting them, even-though what the gunner says may not be relevant or even accurate! The reason other students get annoyed with gunners isn't that they're smart and isn't even that they're studious, it's because they think they know more than anyone and are in love with the sound of their own voice!
First off, I'm not contesting the accuracy of your (+Maren Smith) statement, but I'd like to point out that several factors cause the loud, "know-it-all." The education system, in the US anyway, singles out the "academically gifted" fairly early, but doesn't truly emphasize grades until high school and college (and depending on the circles, sometimes not even then). The options until that point are to downplay and blend in as best as possible or to screw that and take what they want whether that be education, living into personal potential and taking pride in what they have, or just being plain condescending. Admittedly the best course of action would be somewhere in the middle, but there are always people who'll ostracize the academically gifted, and there will always be people who will show off. It's not fair to lay the blame on the loud know-it-alls, when society molds the know-it-alls' attitudes. I'm sure some would still correct others for the heck of it and ask those ridiculous questions, but there'd sure be a lot less of them if they had a variety of options. We're all human here, we all want some sort of human contact, and ostracizing people is not usually an effective tactic to achieving that (unless being nudged on by some asshole or the person is a politician).
Make fun of the gunners all you want... that's why you're gonna be stuck as a GP instead of something badass like Cardiothoracic or Neuro Surgery on a Da Vinci or private practice.
Ummm... are you dancing amidst cadavers in the end? As medical students, you shouldn't be so disrespectful. These admissions videos are supposed to be comedic, but acting silly around cadavers is just inappropriate.
