By possessing this prophecy, the Jews were prepared to understand Jesus' claims. Muslims claim that all prophets brought exactly the same message: return to one God. It is important then to explain to them that this is true, but is not ALL they spoke. We must open their eyes to the "Progressive Revelation." This prepares them to understand what Jesus fulfilled, as the Jews did. Friends, consider: Jews have the news of Jesus in the Old Testament, yet reject him. Muslims do not have this light in their book. Therefore, please join with me in greater sympathy with Muslims. Befriend them and learn ways to share truth with them. They will come to Christ!

@@NTWrightOnline both embrace the concept of the Bible being an epic story with many threads developing over time. One of those threads is what Heiser would call the messianic profile: the various concepts established in the Old testament that are fulfilled in the new with Jesus. Also, I know Wright had at least one cordial interaction with Heiser at a conference a few years back.
Wonderful connection! Isn't this one-on-one shepherding what Paul called "the faith of Abraham?" Didn't we also see this echoed with Moses and the prophets? But the people-at-large resisted, the Bible says. “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die," they told Moses (Ex. 20:19). I would make clear that this personal connection with "the Shepherd" isn't a new thing that came with the Gospel. But Jesus DID make it plain-and now to a wider audience (the whole world). Makes me question why the church encourages people to keep relying on pastors, priests-even departed saints-to do what the one true God always intended for himself (John 17:3).
