How do you think the Minilogue compares to the Source over on the right? Curious how a 30 year old analog mono synth with digital control sounds compared to a brand new digitally controlled analog.
If you understand the logic behind what he's doing, you don't won't need to copy his exact values - you'll probably want tweak your sounds to suit your taste, anyway. I suggest going over some basic minilogue tutorials, or even the “Synthesizer Library Podcast” which is a great resource, if you’re just getting started.
Modulation fx after pads takes them to a different level. Something like a 'Small Stone' first and then a chorus like the 'June-60' or just 'tal-chorus-xl' in your daw after. 'Mod Rex' is probably cool too. I think especially the Minilogue needs modulation effects.
my biggest issue with these is four note polyphony and the inability to transpose the sequence. but presets and built in effects are really nice to have. Can these do any sort of juno/oberheim type sounds?
Please refer to values on the synth as things like “ 2 o’ clock” or film in a higher quality so we can see the knobs. Would help if the minilogue had a white mark on the knobs to see better.
Yes. What does "three quarters" mean, particularly on a knob that goes both ways such as EG INT? (Are we counting from full left turn to full right turn, or from middle to full right turn?) But yeah, better camera, and put stickers on the knobs to indicate where they point.
+Marc-Étienne Paradis , there's nothing to "fix". It's not broken. It's a characteristic of the envelope that you can either choose to use, or not. I'll put it another way: did you hear any "clicking" in this video? Do you hear anything getting in the way of the reviewer creating these three patches?
+Robert Saint John It may be a characteristic of the envelope, but most analog synths do not make any sound with the cutoff filter completely closed. So if Korg issued a firmware update to address this well documented issue, then obviously there was something to "fix".
No offense, because I think they're weak spots on the ML rather than you, but those were pretty weak bass and pad patches. Not much fullness in the low end on the bass, and not nearly enough softness on the attack and release on the pad. It seems mostly good for leads, punch pads and fx.
Glad you're satisfied with them, but I had one of the first Minilogues and after 3 months got rid of it. I can dial up a super fat bass on my MS-20 in 30 seconds, or just select any number of presets on my Bass Station. But after 3 months with the Minilogue, it just wasn't cutting it.
It's also a 500 dollar 4 voice analog synth take that into account. You aren't going to get perfection for 500 dollars that's just unrealistic. There are plenty of vintage synths that are not perfect but stood the test of time. Personally not just because I own one but just the fact that it's an entirely modern design as opposed to the endless re vamps of synths from yesteryear I think it will receive a loyal following because of the modern presets and practical modulation possibilities it has to offer as well as being user friendly and budget conscious while also taking limited real estate in your set up . I don't understand why so many people expect a wonder machine that suits everybody's taste it's completely an unreachable goal. I personally would rather have this for the attractive price point and functionality then blow a grand on a certain monophonic synthesizer that has become a namesake cliche any day of the week. It's all based on your needs and where your interest lie.
Anyone here has a very low but persistent noise like a thin "screaming" like peep tone coming out of the Minilogue when you crank up the Volume or the Audio Interface is very sensitive when you are not playing anything? I first noticed it today cause i had set my Interface to high sensitivity and i first realized there is this noise. It`s pretty annoying now that i have noticed it and when i don`t play it`s pretty much there all the time....
@@joemca7917 hi there. Hmm i cant remember my friend. From what i remember i used it with Usb. I dont even remember what it was about since the other commenter dissappeared as i see so my comments are out of context now. I might have used also midi in order to play my Erebus but the Minilogue is in another country now.
try it in real life, on youtube no one can make a proper opinion about how a synth is really sounding ; minilog is awesome but this tutorial is lacking a good sens of taste ; sound design are bad
Great video, especially the PAD sounds, best pads on MINILOGUE !
What a amazing explanation. Hopefully more from this stuff in the future. Thanks Dan.

Nice tutorial, problem is I can't see the values your setting everything at. Can't get near to the sound your getting here.

Gabriel Valente Ferrão do u have a link or channel name , I’m barley starting
Really nice presentation style and chops to back it up. Thanks.
Super cool and helpfull for a synth newbie like me thank you!
I instinctively thought this was a 360 degree video because of its look so I clicked and dragged my mouse on the video to look around, nope XD
SoCalFreelance haha it does look like a 360 degree video
Nope. No XD. Just the regular Minilogue.

great video - learned a few things :)
7:30 Making a Pad with 2 saws (just bookmarking this for future reference)
I think this is the perfect synth for me

Yes, highly suggest Adam Borseti if you haven't already seen his videos
Blake Foster you can transpose the sequence with the vcos but not with the octave switch
Sequence can be transposed now (updated firmware).

making pad sounds is addictive
The stings preset is the only thing i don't love but still like so making pad s is good
Love the pad
I wonder if that sweet little moog source, somehow might inspired those dudes at KORG? I sure can see the possibilities! Can't you?
Is there a trick to get a tremelo effect seeing that there is no amp target for the lfo? Thx
I want to be able to play like that...
are these patches available for download?
This guys feet look so small and despite how cool this synth is I can't get over it
Yeah, they are so small that I can't even see them 😅
can u create a good sawtooth patch for doing talkbox?
Micro korg is good but this is a way much better sound ,got electribe2 sampler but carnt get enough of the minilogue i need to synch the pair
Nice one
can you use the Minilogue as a MIDI controller?
Yeah
freddo 1614 If you only want to use one piece of gear.
Does this sound the same as prologue?is it just smaller? Is the bass heavy enough to replace my moog sub 37??
This synth sounds nothing like the Sub 37 and can' t mess with it' s bass. Keep the Sub 37!!!
definitely keep the sub 37
Did they fix the enveloppe clicking issue?

+Robert Saint John If he isn't going to buy it because of such a small thing, I don't mind. I'll get mine earlier :')
+etaki Yeah the firmware update helped alot, I barely hear the clicking anymore :)

Even in this video, he specifically shows (on the lead) how the amp envelopes retrigger, but adding a bit of portamento makes them not retrigger.
Is that a moog source with mini keys on the right??
Hahaha
It appears to be, yes.
It looks like a regular Moog Source to me

jmacatx bass not weak at all maybe because of video but pads and bass are full and inspiring to say the least in person, I had to buy one

Iike the bass station also got the vst version with a controller (M-Audio Axiom 25)

Minilogue does spectacular bass. Do i have to post some patches?
that lick at 6:45 is sick as fuck

Hmm . Why? does the Minilogue have Balanced outputs? I thought it doesn`t
Ah i see! Makes sense. Didn`t think of this. Thank you
Do you have (did you, bit late 🤣) midi plugged in?

No, he's not seen me.....
DAN!!!!!!
One of the reasons I won't buy this is the lack of hold switch for the arp.
No, in a live scenario, that would be a nightmare. I will buy something else.
to my understanding the update adds a hold to the arp. I own one and just updated so we will see but the arp does sound quite nice.
Yes, I am aware of that now. I don't understand why it wasn't there from the start. Anyway, the new Behringer DM 12 looks like a better option now.
Botany 500 at half the price the minilogue is awesome!
You can always use a hold from another midi device, daw.
10:57 deep
like this -_-
Can you create a SONG on this?
Afraid not, just for painting, for creating a song try using your car
7 min to create the bass sound... painful.
How do i save my fucking patch? Once i turn off the synth all of my creation goes away :(
The "write" button underneath the screen lets you save patches
oh thanks a ton. also, what midi channel is it on for controlling it with a daw
I'm not sure yet. I've only had mine about five minutes
it sounds analogue ...but brittle analogue ...kinda spikey n slightly thin ..
Josef Mandel that's just the wave shapes. use a filter and it smooths

No, it IS awesome. Of course, you don't have one. So, shut it.
enodmeedgraffa it IS awesome
dude your hand was in the way the whole time and its too far too see and the video quality isnt sharp
too blurry
Nothing is "blurry" here.
