Congrad on your selection. I hope that it is still serving you well. The 128i with the n52 and normally aspirated is really reliable and easy to work on. Not to mention it handles really well.

I have a 2011 128i with 79,000 miles all stock. I got it in 2014 for $18,000 with 31,000miles. I use it for commuting to work and errands around town. It’s a fun little car. I’m looking forward to going back to work at the office as it’s 30miles each way all highway so it’s a good trip for this car. So far the only issue has been the oil filter housing gasket.

I have a 128i coupe. Getting ready to do disa intake swap. The best way I can describe this car is that its like a luxury go-kart.
What I mean by that, is that it handles amazing with good tires and shocks and is small and light which makes it very nimble. All this while having very comfortable sport seats and great sound insulation with decent medium trim stereo system makes it very well rounded. add to this that you hardly ever see these on the road and you have something unique as well.

I had a 2011 135i for a few years before my E46 M3. They are great cars. If I got another it would definitely be a 128i. I think the N52 is a much more fun engine than the N55. One of the best modern BMW's for sure.

I purchased my 2011 128i in 2016 from a private seller for $9200. It had 60k and now has 79k. No accidents, one owner and it is also the rarer and more valuable manual transmission model. I keep it stock and well maintained. Currently replacing pads, sensors and rotors for the first time. After driving it for 4 years I can sell it for more than I bought it for but wont. It is a great feeling when you can find a modern car that doesn't lose value and is simple enough to keep on the road for many years.

Congrats on 6k. That’s awesome growth! I enjoy your content. Thanks for walking us around your new car. Those 2 door sports coupes are a lot of fun. That’s got a lot of potential and with the few minor issues resolved will be set. Nicely done on the price also. It’s so nice to have a reliable car on the days you just don’t feel like riding or the weather is miserable.

Oh dude I feel you, I've driven beater pickups my whole life I've never gotten over $2000 for, for years. Saved up some money and got further in my career I was gonna finance and get a new truck, somthing more dependable I don't have to maintain as much with high mileage.
I'm a Chevy guy but I've driven whatever my whole life, but obs square bodies are my thing (also my company supplies me a work vehicle and gas card so I no longer NEEED a truck just personal wheels)
But I'm looking at trucks now a days and early 2000 chevys are still going for about 10k at over 150kmiles (let alone over year 2010-20 getting to $20-30k same miles and not including financing rates and added fees) I was like man there not even as good as they use to I want somthing new and I'm not getting a Chevy without an LS motor
So I expanded my horizon now I got the work truck mabye I just get somthing I want (ima motorsports guy I like anything fast and loud from bikes to boats and I've never owned a car) well everybody and there mommas mama has a Camaro or a mustang in my area I don't want either one but I want somthing with some power I'm not going from a LS to a 4 cylinder il just get a moped at that point.
Now loving anything with a motor that spits flames and sounds like a demon screaming from the hollows of hell foreign motors have always had a spot in my heart for there unique tractor like sound in the inline-6 motors. It's not a weedwhacker but it's still got a solid tone to it that just stands the hair up like gurgly groan from a panther or tiger like cat. Has a way that cuts your soul like an x pipe 454 stroker cammed just CHOPPING so bad you think it cut of for a sec.
But when I Sawl this bmw with a naturally aspirated inline-6 (which is there leading motor and transmission in terms of power output and being considered bulletproof) also hydronic r/p steering, I got hooked.
Paid 10k for a 60k mile 128i with sports package brakes, rims, shocks and tinted lights, minor little picks here there nothing noticeable from 10 ft away. It was the nicest thing I've ever owned but man are you telling me, the way people's perspective changed on me when there driving Mazdas and Hundais for 25-35k with more plastic and shitty aluminum 4 cylinders with turbos. So 25% more tech and maintenance cost. Also mine is only the 1 series aswell so no dash screen, Bluetooth, power seats. Just basic power locks, windows, and aux radio. Just a good sporty road car practical for daily driving but has the performance available to put your hair back and get some vibes flowing (muff delete I think is more then enough for a mild sound that you can hear over the radio but neighbors wouldn't hear you leave in the am cruising out). But yeah I love it, especially as a first car and first bmw being a v8 it gave me enough power to feel satisfied with a v6 sports car but the handling has impressed me the most.
Driven every American luxury model car and performance car, bmw truly is one of its own and feel like hover board on a fresh road. Smoothest vehicle I've ever driven and I've dumped over a grand in truck suspension and drivetrain. There is nothing out of the ordinary for this car price range or mechanically that I would say makes it worse then any other. I've found that it's cheaper then most truck parts but I pull basic parts and finding scrap parts for these are just as easy and vast among years and models.
Where I see the price get gouging is the computer and anything souly branded as bmw like the interior parts and and some cosmetics, stuff like that.
If your inclined enough to maintenance and repair basics like oil, brakes, radiators, it can be just a cheap if not cheaper then any vehicle. If your gonna take it to a local mechanic that doesn't specialize in bmw or over seas motor vehicles then there gonna have to get those unique tools, more advanced computers, deal with retailers they don't normally do buisness with, your not gonna get a huge deal cause of the extra time and resource then say if you took it to somebody that souly works on bmw so they can cut labor by having pre plans and getting done faster with less strain. Still leaves you in the you get anything done by a mechanic it's not gonna be cheap lol

I bought my 2011 128i 6spd in late 2019 with 62k. I've had 9 cars and this is by far my favorite. Until you drive a bmw you'll never understand I guess. Everything is so buttery smooth. Unfortunately you do get looked at differently, like you have money you didn't deserve or something. Even though MANY newer cars are so much more expensive. You drive a big, $60,000 pickup truck and you're a working class hero, but drive an 11 year old bmw, you're a snob and worship the devil.

Also depending on your mileage it may be worth replacing the vanos solenoids. Its the main maintenance that will restore a lot of engine power.

@Oregon Motorcycle by any chance, have you ever owned an e36 328is coupe? I really love the classic 90s look of the e36 body style and the classic bmw formula that the e36 embodies in terms of driving dynamics, feel (at least that's what I hear) and the classic layout of rwd, naturally aspirated inline six and manual transmission. Clean unmolested ones are extremely hard to find (still haven't found one; the 328is is actually really rare these days as I usually see alot of m3's for sale, or older 325s or 318s, which are usually in bad shape, especially the exterior and interior), especially in the spec I want (m sport suspension, manual, dark color, coupe with dark interior, late model). The reason I ask is because I also really like the 1 series (namely the 128i) because it's a modern version of the e36 on paper (even though they say it's the spiritual successor to the 2002) and I've heard it most closely resembles the e36 m3 actually in terms of power and the fact that it's a naturally aspirated inline six just like the m3 was. I'm actually more interested in the non-M e36 since it would be a street car primarily. I heard it feels more playful and revvier with the smaller engine and so, more fun on the street (the m3 would be more fun on track I'm sure). What I'm getting at with all this rambling is if you have driven an e36, m3 or normal 3 series, how does it compare to this 1 series in terms of overall feel, steering feel, handling and power delivery? I've always wanted an e36 and kind of prefer the lines of the e36, but the 1 series would also be compelling because it's more modern so it would probably feel sharper without losing the driver connection, and be more reliable.

      I’ve owned 3 e36’s;)
I had 328 vert auto, a 325is manual, and a Z3 2.8 manual. Loved them all. My current 128 is very similar to the e36 platform. You can feel that car in my 128i. But the 128 is more powerful and handles better. I’m not sure if its the electronic diff or what. My Z and my coupe both had wider tires and the coupe was lowered, so 🤷‍♂️. I’ve heard a lot of people say the 128 performs like an e36 m3 and I can see that. But I’ve never had the pleasure to drive an m3 :/. Anyways I absolutely love this car. I do wish it was a manual, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. Driving the car in sport mode is not bad at all. And I think I might like the looks of the 128 better than an e36 coupe 🤔😬😊

@@OregonMotorcycle Interesting. Thanks for the input. You didn't mention if any of your e36's had the m sport suspension or limited slip differential. I heard those are musts if you want to get the most out of an e36 chassis, at least if we compare stock to stock. So, I wonder how they would compare if the e36 is equipped with those. I guess you could get the e36 to handle closer to the 128i with a good aftermarket suspension and upgrade the steering rack to an e46 rack, so there's that. How about steering feel and response? What are your thoughts on comparing them? I assume the 128 is much sharper and more responsive, but what about feel and driver connection?

@@Jeff_F7 Both the coupe and my Z had an LSD.
The 128i feels really good and not "disconnected" as some might describe newer BMW's. Remember this year still has the rack steering, not electric. My 128 feels maybe a lil more crisp or responsive than my Z, maybe, its close:)
On another note, I accidentally found out I do in fact have the SULEV model. I got a code and that code was specific to the N51... Anyway not sure what state you are in, but the SULEV have extended warranties. Up to 150k and 15 years in some states!

The dealer probably didn't wanna pay the $15 ea. for new sensors because they're put on along with the pads.

You can reset your whole car by taking the negative cable off for 15 mins. The BMW dealerships all reset the cars first the same way! Car will also run brand new! Then reset the automatic transmission! The car will run how you ride the gas pedal! Trust me man, I have a 2011 convertible and did all this
