Ontario Northland sends out a train for testing and validating transit times for a potential return of passenger rail service to Northern Ontario. The train will run from North Bay to Toronto's Union Station. From there, the train will turn around and head back to North Bay.

The very first train I ever went on when I was 4, it later sparked my interest in trains
That's a nice looking train with a great sounding K3L, excellent shots, I subscribed!
I road on it from Toronto to Huntsville and glad that it is coming back threw my family's home town
We can sit by the lake and watch it go by🇨🇦
I saw the Southbound Test Train at McCowan Road. I also saw it Heading Northbound. Epic video btw. :D
Thanks Tyler! It was a good day to see this today :)
@@TracksideTO Agreed. :D
Nice catch! I didn’t have enough time to see it. Also I’m glad you started posting again
Thanks! I've been busy with another channel I manage so I didn't have the time like I used to before
I hope it comes back. But I am doubting it will. We will see
@Weser man, it is coming back, that's why it's being tested.
@@northlanderdude maybe their right. May mid 2020s bring connections to the north
Great to see Ontario Northland passenger service coming back to Toronto. Hopefully when the service is up and running ONR buys some of the excess engines and cars that Amtrak and VIA Rail will be getting rid of as they both get their new Siemens equipment. The Genesis locomotives and Amfleet cars would be perfect. I took the train from Toronto to Cochrane years ago and was in one of those now blue converted GO train cars. Those cars are terrible !!! They ride like old subway cars - they rock, shake and sway uncontrollably. You really notice it when trying to use the washroom !
Would be great if they can snag some of the LRCs when they get retired. Fresh coat of paint on those would be fantastic and they have been fairly recently renovated by VIA too.
Nice Catch!
Thanks!
Nice catch
Thanks!
Nice to see it return but I thought we are going to use the Northlander is going to use the Siemens Charger
Let start it next Monday! I don't wanna wait until 2025!!
1:00 There I am, I myself also caught this train here and three other stations. :D
Apparently, ONR bought some siemens chargers and the coaches that go with them. Amtrak calls them venture cars. Going to Ottawa to the winter simulator first. Probably won't be in revenue service until 2024.
For some reason I’m just excited for the simple reason that I want more various services being offered at Union, even far flung ones like the Northlander
I wonder where the ONR acquired that F40PH from?
ONR bought them from Amtrak. They have two APCUs currently.
@@TracksideTO I'm guessing amtrak is selling Amfleet II coaches to the ONR rail line in the not too distant future iv sean a slide show from the president of the ONR giving a presentation slide show with Amfleet II coaches in the ONR paint scheme. but that is not a total guarantee but intriguing nevertheless.
Locomotive F40ph are exAmtrack and Build with parts SPD40F but are ACPU
@@TracksideTO Are the APCUs currently used as control cabs? My understanding is that they're not.
@@smwca123 No they are only used to provide electric power to the coaches
So it's coming back
Hopefully, Ontario Northland is smart and gets LRC coaches from VIA Rail as they start getting replaced by Siemens coaches.
That would be awesome if that happens.
They purchased a siemens set. Much like VIAs new ones
@@MattGTrainz I posted this a year ago, Bro, I would have NEVER thought about Siemens Charger+Venture cars for the Northlander, which is pretty SICK. Talk about THE comeback... When was the last time the Northlander got BRAND NEW equipment? Even the Trans Europ Express was used...
Now, ONR CAN still acquire some VIA Rail hand me down LRC coaches to help out the old Hawkers on it's Polar Bear Express...
Based on the Siemens Northlander, I DO HOPE they add a CAFE CAR. Business class is nice, but it needs a place to chill with your buddies and meet other passengers...
@@wavesnbikes VIA is having trouble with the Chargers. Door issues seem to be the big one
@@MattGTrainz oh no.. which doors?
Where did Ontario Northland get that F40PH?
What kind of "data" are they collecting with 3 locomotives and 3 cars ? Carbon tax collection or how much fuel we can waste ?
Probably less data then the millions of studies the Feds have done for high-speed rail xD
@@TracksideTO They are putting on a show
Let’s hope the new Northlander train is faster than that. Otherwise ridership is gonna be doomed.
I used to take that train ..... ONR doesn't own the rails south of North Bay , its a bouncy long ride , spent a lot of time on sidings waiting for freight trains to pass which meant it was NEVER on time .... bus is cheaper and faster from North Bay south
I bet that f40 is ex amt.
NDP with the Liberals voting against the northlander lol and people keep voting them back in.
