This video rt here made me realize how i was dragging my arms through. Getting that left arm more away from the body was the exact advice i needed. Lost 10 strokes just after watching and only hit 20 balls before my round. Finally back in the mid 80s. I was blown away. Thank you sir.

Dan. Love this. I have a different thought on this. Can you comment? I use this baseball swing thought, but I use it to allow me to STOP thinking about the golf swing. I know how to hit a baseball. I don’t have to think about my weight shift, hips, arms, hands, etc. So all I do is tilt my spine down, from the hips, the appropriate angle until my club head is behind the ball. This forces me to tilt my spine to reach the golf ball and not just drop my arms down to the ball ( which I think is the real fault of a baseball player’s golf swing). This forces me to keep my shoulder angled appropriately toward the ball in the backswing and follow through. I forget about everything else and just act like I’m hitting a ball off a baseball tee. Except the golf tee is 3 inches tall instead of 3 feet tall. Bottom line for my swing thought: the only difference between the baseball swing and golf swing is the tilt of my spine during the ENTIRE swing. Everything else falls into place naturally without thinking. Would love your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Starting the downswing by moving my knees forward increased my driver clubhead speed 10 mph!

Great video. I was shanking because i was leaving the arms behind, like Dan said. I was reading the Hogan words literally and now i see how the arms should work.

Left arm. Right hip. Left knee. Right hip. Left shoulder. Right shoulder. Lateral motion. Rotation. Speed. Wow 😯 tough game.

Excellent demo, the hands down the club really empathises the correct striking position to compress the ball. Also when you realise you are hitting the ball with your body turn, that will be your ultimate light bulb moment.

This concept has proved a great way to recover my swing whenever things start to go awry. I use the baseball practice swing before addressing the ball to get my rhythm back.

I've tried all types of swings and always drift back to the Hogan low swing, flat plane method because it feels more powerful and natural for my body type (short arms, large chest, lots of rotational flexibility). I get more distance from this setup with just a half swing, compared bringing the club up higher with the trail elbow detached from my side. Also, way more control. Comments?

Good stuff Dan,my swing is much more compact and less flailing about, striking ball more more solid, biggest help my golf swing has ever had.....cheers!

Just when I had a question about how the left shoulder works in the downswing...low and behold...Dan answered my questions perfectly.

Makes a lot of sense even if (or particularly because) it goes against what is usually said: let the body drive your arms, they should do nothing... which is actually impossible if you simply rotate your body as it is at the top of the backswing, you'll not even come close to the ball!
So, as usual, a great video that I'm glad I've watched. It'll help my game, I'm sure...

Great series on how to incorporate Ben's swing moves into your own golf. So many people just repeat what he said, which is what he believed, but may not have actually done. His grip was weak and he had a cup than bowed move. I am more neutral to strong and would like to keep it flat is it a mistake?

well Dan, I tried out the Ben Hogan swing today and realised that I have been swinging the club the wrong way for over forty years wow OMG, I could not believe that it was me hitting these shots and the ball going further and straighter!
I was always informed that the left hand always dominates for the right handed golfer, how wrong they all were!
    Many thanks Dan!

To clarify on the down swing one needs to simply remove the left shoulder about two inches from one's chin while simultaneously initiating one's down swing with the right hip and knees. This initial action allows gravity to bring the club into the perfect slot with right elbow pointing at right hip culminating in a perfect swing through to the ball as well as a proper weight shift to a posted left leg at the finish. Do not try to manipulate one's hand or wrist on either the back swing or the downswing, Is this correct?

Hi Dan, been working on these topics and ty for showing the release portion.
I've been scratching my head trying to figure out where, when or if ulnar deviation (for impact) happens especially since at shaft parallel the L wrist still has radial deviation.
How does one match (coordinate) L forearm & wrist pronation with ulnar deviation.
    Much appreciated!

Hogan states the knees and the hip start the swing. The arms and hand follow.

Looks like your club head is behind your hands from dragging the handle thru impact.. Causes blocks and snap hooks when you get stuck behind like that

    Hi Dan
Enjoying your video and commentary very much.
My concern is that I have been trying for better ball compression and distance as I get older.
In doing so I have been experimenting with my swing plane to determine if the flatter swing plane (a la the Hogan flatter style swing) is better for me versus the more upright swing with a steeper plane on the downswing.
    I am 5'9" tall weighing 168 lbs.
The steeper plane seems to work for a while but then I feel I cant generate the power and speed as I can with the flatter more rotational swing. Especially with the driver and metal woods.
I am a very good athlete in all sports and I definitely initiate the golf swing with the legs and hips before I fire the arms. (This is a basic essential athletic movement in all sports that involve throwing an object like a baseball, tennis ball and golf which comes naturally to me)
So my quandry is do I try to swing flatter for more rotational power or more steeply to get better strikes and distance that comes from a more downward blow to the back of the ball???
Would appreciate your expertise on this.
    Thanks
    Paul S.

The confusion originates on page 93 of lesson 4 in his book Five Lessons. " What do the hands do? The answer is they do nothing active until after the arms have moved on the downswing to a position just above the level of the hips. The arms don't propel this motion themselves. They are carried down by the movement of the hips." This is Ben Hogan's version of the "Free Ride" of the hands and arms that we hear so often. Hey guys.....This is why the game is so TOUGH! (LOL)

    • @paulyrulo1697
      @paulyrulo1697 6 лет назад

That is correct. Manipulating the hands any time before that releases them to early and results in mishits and loss of power. The wrist angle that is set at the top of the swing should remain until the hands get to about hip height during the downswing and then the hands and wrists should uncock into the ball in the hitting area which by this time your hips have opened and cleared to allow the hands to release with enough speed so that they catch up with the left shoulder at impact......which is very close to where they were at address.

Dan, great video, I'm struggling with this, should the hips be back to square by the time your back to parallel or should they be slightly open? I think my hips move too fast?

WAY TOO MUCH verbage. It's good to know of your in depth knowledge on this subject. Demonstrate the action by hitting balls. The striking of the ball explains more from simple visual format as opposed to breaking down each movement segment. Keep in mind who most of your audience is; most of us are not taking a university course in golf kinesiology.
