  • This is the last of the vineyard videos with the possible exception of a burn video of the pile of vines. I will be planting four bur oaks - hopefully the ones from the acorns collected last year from one of our own trees. It's the end of one era and the beginning of another. 😊

Excellent video. I liked the shot where you were mowing. Do you have any blue bird houses out? Wife has 4 but seems like the other birds nest in them. One of them does have blue birds in it tho. 👍😊

Those posts sure burnt down nice.
It's the end of a chapter. I learned more than I ever thought I would about grapes! Anxious to watch next week and see what surprise you have for replacing the grapes
Btw, I think those birds by the run-in about mid-way were barn swollows. They are very good at bug control and fun to watch as well!

I must have missed something. You had all that leverage to rock the posts out of the ground when they were at full height but you cut them half height then started rocking them.

I was talking with my daughter and her friends at a Memorial Day get together, and asked them if any of them drank wine. Nope. They only drank fru fru drinks if they even drank at all. basically flavored seltzer water. It looks like it was a wise decision to just cut your losses 🤔 Still sucks to see it go though 😞

I remember you mentioning in a previous video you were reluctantly selling some land, I thought those markers were for that. Relieved to see the vineyard will stay with you and become an extension of the oak Savannah. I have a few local native nurseries that have tree and shrub sales in the fall, they sell 3 gallon pots for 30$. I’ve never had issues with root bound trees. I know you’ve had success with the bare roots but maybe that would be something to look into near you?
Are your burr oak trees producing this year like last?

I have a bit of a surprise coming up in a video next Sunday. Not sure if it will all work out or not, but if it does I'll have something to plant there this Fall. Yes, we were going to sell a lot across the road from the vineyard (to the neighbor) - but then rethought that, and may just sell them a small slice of land so that they have road frontage. They built on a 'hunting' lot, and the property is only as wide as their driveway at the road! 🥴
As for the trees producing, I was cutting the grass last week, and I cut up tight to the bur oaks. As I was going around the tree I saw something that registered as "cloves', but they were actually tiny little acorn buds! I'm not sure how many trees have these (I quit paying attention so I could explore later), but I will be making a video tomorrow to find out! I'll try to get that video out next Monday 😊

...forgot to mention, we plan to plant that pasture down there by the former vineyard in native grasses. We have a farmer that will be haying it this year, and if we can find a sponsor for the seed, we will plant it next year. 😊

Did Natalie help plant the vineyard, or was she to young at the time?
