  • I was about to finish the prep work and found a big problem with the old fibreglass work. Unfortunately this means I'm back to square one AGAIN! When will it end.

Nightmare sanding fiberglass, been there, seen it, done it. Now I try to avoid large scale sanding. You will have built a new boat by the time you are finished :)

I hate it too Troy with a passion 😂.
Technically it will be a brand new boat lol but it will be worth it and it's powered with a 90hp so it will shift too in the right conditions

Is this osmosis? So sorry to hear it's being such painfully lengthy task! I admire your determination. These videos are an accurate documentation of the quality of your work and so mean that the boat is more valuable if in the future you should once again feel due for an upgrade! Thank you Dave you deserve better luck!
I just googled 'osmosis treatment in fiberglass boats' it seems there might be a less itchy way ahead! Check it out when you get a moment!

I admire your effort and the desire to do a good job but that Hull is completely delaminating .it is most likely resin breakdown die due age ! you have to remember most of these are nearly 40 years old now and weren't built properly to begin with .I did mine and you will never get that water out the keel ! IMO you are wasting your time strengthening the Hull as they are fine as they are .look at them being launched at Hastings! Good luck I will tune into part 126 when you start glassing!

I think you are right Damien with the old glass work.
I see your point with strength and agree there's no need for it but with the new bits going in I want them tied in really well. Also the finish was like ripples in the sand so I'm hoping with new glass layups I can get everything a lot flatter.
The keel will be the part I go over board to make strong the rest is just is to tie in the stringer and the deck but instead of like a 4 inch tab it will be a new lay up over everything if that makes sense

Another good video log of the trials and tribulations of boat ownership and refurbishment dave, it's a cruel beast at times. Great progress though and a great watch for anyone thinking of a refurbishment... not sure if it might help you but I had the same trouble with the flap discs, I opted for linishing discs after a while for areas not seen as they were cheaper, bit harder to work with, need to be very gentle but they worked well and saved a fortune on areas that will be hidden or refibreglassed over.... also I found covering myself with barrier cream helped keep out those itchy fibres, made me overheat plenty but wasn't as itchy 🤣... keep up the great work, it'll all be worth it in the end. High tides and good vibes 😎👍

Thanks weekend fisher most of the flap disc work is done now I do need to do the keel but that's should only be one or two discs. Thanks for you input I appreciate it

Are there areas of the exterior hull you are concerned with?,would you have still taken on the boat if you knew of all the issues that needed dealt with?,cheers for update on progress Dave 👍🏼

    • @C3BFA
      @C3BFA  2 года назад +1

Yes there's the keel sloth it has a metal keel band fitted which has to go and found some really bad fibreglass work around keel. Also found a few old hole repairs which I will be redoing.
That's a hard one really sloth I probably wouldn't of but at the same time it was a bargain for what it was with the 90hp etc on it.
I wish I could afford a mint condition boat and use it strait away

Enjoyed the video it seems like you have opened a can of worms, as you keep finding water in between fiberglass layers. But as you say it needs to be done properly.

I have got rid of all of that now bear since this video the hull and side are all back to original glass. But I need to do more cutting again 😭

So you said they did not mean to do it you mean someone did the repair but did not know what they were doing, lol. Nice to see it’s not put you off doing the boat and at least you will know it’s done right this time , but feel sorry for you having to do all this work but you will feel better when it’s done knowing it’s done properly and you will feel safe
