Merry X-Mas, Robin! The reason you didn't dislike Jack Deth is because Tim Thomerson seems a likeable fellow and the script, while making him out to be over-the-top macho, doesn't make him "toxic". In fact, the film seems to use him to lampoon such characters. Full Moon's "Dollman" series featuring Thomerson does that as well.
I watched this last week and was charmed. I saw it actually on the big screen back in the day. The ending is weak because of the budget but its still great fun. Thomerson is awesome
Was having a movie night "back in the day" with a few friends, and we grabbed this one off the video store shelf "just because"..And I LOVED IT! Tim Thomerson has just the right amount of "snark" to be a charmingly cheesy, without descending into annoying. Helen Hunt being sweet as can be.. And then you add in "The McNulty" factor. The "You're out of control, Deth!" police chief placed into the body of a 12 year old girl..Priceless! The story itself is mediocre, but it's got some decent action scenes, and the music score works. Hope you do some of the sequels in the future, Robin... Merry Christmas! 🎄
Maybe McNulty's ancestor (the little girl) was an orphan, so her parents weren't her biological parents. BTW, I really liked that they got the same actress to play her/him as a teenager in Trancers II. I doubt most people would have been able to tell if they had recast the role, but they went to the trouble of getting the same person to reprise the character.

Trancers is probably my favorite Full Moon franchise. To some degree, all of the movies are entertaining. Well, except the sixth one. I try to forget it exists. But the first five, particularly the 1st, 4th, and 5th. Awesome! Full Moon kept trying to make Doll Man a thing, but in my mind Jack Deth is by far the best Thomerson character! And it IS fun how the movie kept pointing out it's own plot holes. You have to give them points for at least knowing they were there if not how to fill them.
I watched Brandon Tenold's review of this a little while ago, and it just further cemented my appreciation of Tim Thomerson. I still need to see this, not sure if I really should watch the sequels, but I can't say no to Thomerson or '80s cheese.

@docwhammo truthfully, i kinda doubt that anyone at Ubisoft was actually thinking of this movie when they came up with the Animus and the genetic memory concept, but it IS an interesting parallel

Not the same and I'm sure not the film you're thinking of, but Wolverine in "Days of Future Past" changes the past so that when his consciousness returns to the present, it effectively kills his the version of himself that had lived 50 years in the new timeline.
this series is the definition of stupid fun, and it was self aware in ways that I loved it so much - they want to remake the series but I don't have faith in the remakes.
Remakes are always iffy, no matter the reasons for them. The makers can hit all the right notes and still fail to engage the audience for one reason or another. Or they can completely misunderstand the original and be left scratching their heads as to why. I'm not a fan of remakes, mostly because so many seem to be attempts to cash in on the originals, but there are some that I like. Either they modernize appropriately, or take the elements and make new use of them. Adaptations of books, graphic novels, plays, and radio shows are another matter. Unless a studio decides that they should remake their adaptation rather than go back to the source material (looking at you, Disney).
God, I bloody love Trancers! So does Neil Gaiman (he told me on Twitter). And Kim Newman called it "The B-Movie of the 80's". Yes, it's got a fair few contrivances, but not as many genuine plot holes as you'd think. Plus, the energy and inventiveness more than make up for them. And I love the "Nice tan; very Christmassy" line, which is lifted straight from Raymond Chandler, if I remember correctly. As for the sequels? Yes, we needed the short from Pulse Pounders, because it's brilliant, and while the others drop in quality quickly, all but the last one star Tim Thomerson, so they're not a total loss.
I would say Salma Hayek's "Everly" is abother tangentially Christmas-related action gem, though it's really a good action/revenge film, albeit with questionable taste.
“her parents are also your ancestors” …this is one plot hole that might have an excuse: maybe she’s an orphan and she’s the only one alive then? or more likely, maybe the only one living in that city?
1) 6:08 "You understand, her parents are also your ancestors, right?" arguments about how family lineage actually works aside, you do realize the kid could be adopted or orphaned, right? 2) is it X-Men: Days of Future Past?
Your body stays put while your mind leaps into your ancestor. Didn't final season "Quantum Leap" borrow that to give Sam an excuse to, um, break one of the key tenets of the series i.e. you can only time travel through periods you were alive in..
In the impressively and depressingly vast Band oeuvre el cheapo hackery this is his directing peak by a country mile. Charismatic cast and fun, clever touches overcome... well everything else. Prime 80's cult film.
Indeed it is. We normally shoot once every 5-7 weeks. this particular episode however was shot back in June when we realised it was set at Christmas so decided to bank it for later in the year.
Is it Project Almanac? A film I quite liked. One possibly not many others have seen. I was the only in the cinema when I saw it. And I don't recall having any issue with the ending. But it's the only recent time travel thing I can think of, so it's my guess.

Does that mean Robin has started drinking more or that Jason is drinking less?
@@JCIce007 Dave would make up what Jason doesn't drink.
Yeah but Robin's sober and not sitting next to Lauren Boebert
Loved this series so much.
Great review dude
Since Jack takes over the life of his ancestor.
Is Helen Hunt Jack Deth's great great ect... grandmother?
Thats like a Futurama episode.
A favorite in our household
Could we please have a general episode on Charles Band / Full Moon?
2:10
Basically the plot to The Terminator 1
Not the same and I'm sure not the film you're thinking of, but Wolverine in "Days of Future Past" changes the past so that when his consciousness returns to the present, it effectively kills his the version of himself that had lived 50 years in the new timeline.
Yeah, I wondered if Xavier has a way to telepathically given may memory restoration or something. He knew this was going to happen for decades.
this series is the definition of stupid fun, and it was self aware in ways that I loved it so much - they want to remake the series but I don't have faith in the remakes.
"Stretched-tched to ten" sounds like a pretty merry good time...
Dept of More Looks Like: I could be wrong but that could be one of the ground vehicle props fr BLADE RUNNER in the film’s opening.
1:43 Refusal of the call? Check!
I would say Salma Hayek's "Everly" is abother tangentially Christmas-related action gem, though it's really a good action/revenge film, albeit with questionable taste.
The questionable taste is one of the best things about it!
“her parents are also your ancestors”
…this is one plot hole that might have an excuse: maybe she’s an orphan and she’s the only one alive then? or more likely, maybe the only one living in that city?
1) 6:08 "You understand, her parents are also your ancestors, right?" arguments about how family lineage actually works aside, you do realize the kid could be adopted or orphaned, right?
2) is it X-Men: Days of Future Past?
Plot-holes galore! But, it's got a young Helen Hunt. So it's a trade off.
If it's Tim Thomerson it must be the 80s
Worst effect ever is Death and the girl "driving" while obviously on the back of a flatbed truck.
Go on then, what was the film you did not want to reference at the end?
As was said on "Community": time travel's really had to write about
gotah say i do like their car (black convertable)... MERRY CHRISTMASS!!
Your body stays put while your mind leaps into your ancestor. Didn't final season "Quantum Leap" borrow that to give Sam an excuse to, um, break one of the key tenets of the series i.e. you can only time travel through periods you were alive in..
It is such a fun and interesting movie!
aka "Future Cop" decent Blade Runner satire maybe eventually review 2 & 3?
I just did shrooms over the weekend and watched trancers 1 & 2 after not seeing it for god knows how long. This movie helped me transcend lol
In the impressively and depressingly vast Band oeuvre el cheapo hackery this is his directing peak by a country mile. Charismatic cast and fun, clever touches overcome... well everything else. Prime 80's cult film.
Jesus Christ, you're working today ! i commend you young man and happy Christmas to you sir (the 3 punks is a terminator reference ?)
It's likely a scheduled upload.
Amen to that @@john_blues
Indeed it is. We normally shoot once every 5-7 weeks. this particular episode however was shot back in June when we realised it was set at Christmas so decided to bank it for later in the year.
This is one of the the movies where I have seen many of the sequels but never the original.
Is it Project Almanac? A film I quite liked. One possibly not many others have seen. I was the only in the cinema when I saw it. And I don't recall having any issue with the ending. But it's the only recent time travel thing I can think of, so it's my guess.
No, sorry.
a christmas classic
Actually went to the cinema to see this.
Save the bloopers for the out take reel!
These outtakes are hilarious... !!!
Always forget Helen Hunt was in this
Merry Xmas To you also
The guy @2:08... one of the Visitors from V?
Yes, the late Richard Herd.
The fly on the screen just makes me think of Drachenlord.
Thomerson is 38 here but looks 58. Much like those "college kids" from that movie a few weeks ago.
