Well around 90% of people have a boiler in New York City for heating and so do I. My boiler was replaced last year after the previous 50 year old boiler stopped working, but they’re really safe. Boilers have a PRV valve which stands for Pressure Relief Valve and that would open and release steam if the pressure builds up. Some people are pretty ignorant and would put a cap on the valve which would cause it to explode if pressure builds up same as that hot water heater tank that you showed from Myth Busters. However boilers steam and water will shut off the gas valve and turn off until the pressure is stable.
