So busy watching Petrie mow down Thompson, I didn’t clock she goes in almost at the exact same time as van almsick and just drops her - it’s more than two body lengths by the end. Patrias butterfly leg was just monstrous.
As a team effort, these ladies and their selectors worked out a team to win. MY Australia with the next generation will be back to rule the water in mass.
Petria Thomas is just incredible. Handed a full body-length deficit at the 200m mark, and then just completely destroys Jenny Thompson’s lead, and hands over to Jodie Henry with a lead.
That’s Petria Thomas in her last race at that level. Still holds the fastest butterfly split in any relay medley. I just love this team so much and esp her ❤️
I had forgotten this! When i saw the names in the USA team I thought, "Holy shit! No way even a great Aussie team would overcome that." That was a white-hot American team - which just shows what great form these Aussie girls were in.
Oh how I remember this race I think I screamed my lungs out - I knew when mother butterfly hit the water that was it - mother Petria blitz the field baby she blitz it girlfriend
Thompson is the female swimmer with most Oly golds in history yet: Thomas 2.14 secs faster than Thompson - 56.67 to 58.81 Henry 1.34 secs faster than Joyce - 52.97 to 54.31 Just under 3.5 sec turn around in two legs. Absolutely astounding swimming from two of our least known greats.
10 of her 12 medals are in relays. 12 medals regardless is a HUGE accomplishment but compare that to Coughlin who also has 12 medals and only 7 are in relays.
@@XDF745 She did win Gold in the 100m Butterfly and Silver in the 200m butterfly at these games. So your statement is far from correct and incredible relay swimmer might I add
@@Lishmaa The comment I was replying to is talking about Olympic golds so my comment is 100% correct. "Thompson is the female swimmer with most Oly golds in history yet:"
Awesomeness by Petria - difference between a butterfly specialist and Jenny Thompson who was a relay specialist. Liesel Jones was great too, Amanda Beard knew Liesel was tracking her down the whole way. I always liked the Aussies chances in a medley relay when Liesel was swimming the breaststroke
who's has the best actual woman's medley relay ??? Who beat that short course medley relay at Duel in the Pool in 2011 ? the team with Caughlin , Soni , Vollmer and Franklin ! period
Lol. this isn't about that. this video is about the Athens Olympic event and the come from behind victory that Aussies love and respect so much. And bear in mind Australia has a smaller population than Texas. That's a LOT less people to choose from, yet we still go toe-to-toe with the US in the pool. Could the US still put together as powerful a team if they only had the people in Texas to choose from?
Seems she doesn't want to swim anymore, which is a shame. Same thing happened to Thorpe when he took time off/got injured. Cate Cambell should be able to do the job on steffen I think.
I am sure that if the U.S.A hadn't stolen Mexico's territory in 1847, and Mexico would have been conquered by Germany and not Spain, I would have been twice taller and Mexico would have been a super power, and I would kick everyones' butts XD *sarcasm* Don't come up with shitty excuses please, Petria rocked!!!
@markguest36 Australians are just coming back with the men's relay , otherwise where are they on relays ???? woman's relays ? men's 4by 200 relay ? nowhere bro , nowhere yet .
hahahahah michael phelps went a 4:03 in his 400 im. It's crazy that if he swam that race next to these girl's relays he'd beat them (at least to their prelim times) jeeez
What are you talking about? USA beat the WR in London on this event and many others. Aussies weren't much of a competition, so I don't know what Olympics you were watching. USA still holds the record in this event & many others. Those are facts, not excuses.
AUSTRALIAS BUTTERFLY & FREESTYLE LEGS WERE BOTH OUT OF THIS WORLD.
I can't forget this race, i said when petria takes the field i'm sure australia will lead and she did it. My favourite swimmer

She was 2.14 seconds faster than Thompson - an amazing gap over just 100 m
Monstrous. 👍
Enormous.
Petria’s underwater off the wall into the last 50m was incredible. And Henry such an amazing finish! Nice sportsmanship by Natalie.
Jodie Henry's form at this meet was simply AWESOME!
She smashed them in the individual 100m free even tough she missed the start, epic swim from the Aussie girls
This was her only olympics though?
This was Jodie's one and only Olympics 🇦🇺🇦🇺💪💪
@@peterpietrzak1253 Yep and she came away with 3 Gold Medals
@@Lishmaa its such a shame

Let's remember - that's Jenny Thompson (USA legend) that Petria Thomas gave a 3 metre start to!
Omg what a comeback by Australia in that butterfly leg... What a swimmer!!!

Golden Aussie team, they smashed the Yankees in both 4*100 free as well as the medley relay

Leisel had a great swim as well
Her golds are ALL relays tho. If she were born in a country with less depth she'd have none because she simply wasn't good enough individually.

Amo incondicionalmente a natação australiana! Parabéns a todas, um feito jamais esquecido na natação mundial! Além de serem lindas🌻
Petria Thomas. Hero
That leg from Petria Thomas was phenomenal. You do know that she was the silver medalist in the 200m butterfly in both Atlanta and Athens?
Petria, OH, you took a breath every stroke
A MIRIACLE
The butterfly leg of aussie was superb! She even overtake the U.S!
Petria Thomas did an incredible leg here - split anyone?
The fastest butterfly split in relay to date
@@Colourednexotic still? 18 years later? Wow!
omg, the aussie fly swimmer is jaw-dropping!
Petria Thomas. One of the best. And unfortunately she never received the profile she truly deserved.
Revisiting this 10 Apr '18 - so unlike the US to have a weak 2nd half in a medley relay.
Matt Hancock she is amazing and always a great icon in Australia 🇦🇺 after her Libby no one can fly like those two girls to date !
does anybody have any video of Jodie Henry's individual 100m freestyle swim at this Olympics?
I know, right? I haven't been able to find it either. So much crap on RUclips but not one of Australia's greatest Olympic moments.
I am looking even further back, much further back. I am trying to find the World Championships in Swimming dating back to 1982.
ruclips.net/video/uBvgMCvOyLY/видео.html the commentary is in Spanish, but the only one I can find at present. Have you tried olympics.org??
Damn, If only USA could have held the pace set by NATALIE and AMANDA. they were on FIRE.

Oh how I wish I can watch this in English
What a swim by Petra Thomas - snatched the Gold from the USA's grasp with her butterfly leg
