For YEARS I thought I was just a horrible artist who couldn't draw lines to save my life. A few months ago I started making my working area much smaller with custom mapping, and resized the photoshop document window to fit it. It worked, I was much more precise. But I had a pretty bad experience outside of drawing itself. With this force proportions setting I will be able to achieve my full potential.
Your knowledge of drawing tablets is really amazing, I would pay for this type of content! I didn't even know my aspect ratio was so off until I watched this video!
Thank you so much for this video I had a feeling that my circles were distorted and this confirmed it I tried using the huion screen ratio setting and I almost got a perfect circle in one attempt
I've been using the Intuos 4 Large drawing tablet for years now and I didn't know anything about this. I assumed that the aspect ratio of my drawing tablet would be the same as my screen, which is 16 : 9. And now it turns out that my tablet has an aspect ratio of 16 : 10. I've sometimes wondered if there's something wrong with my drawing tablet when I feel like the drawing lines I see and the movement of my hand don't seem to match as they should. This clarified a lot, and had an immediate effect on the feel. Much better now. Thank you very much for this video and wish you luck with the metal nibs experiment.
very good content thank you! I am 0 percent knowledge, it is very very good to train in the right way with right AR, that I no need to re adjust again when repurchase new tablet
To use the full active area of my intuos pro large, I actually created a custom ratio in the driver so one area of my huge ultrawide monitor matches the active area of my tablet. I cannot use the tablet on the full monitor, and I have to resize the window of the painting program I'm using, but the drawing experience of using the full AA is AMAZING. Plus, since I'm not using the full screen, I can put spotify in one side and my file explorer on the other. So in the end it worked great for me. :)
I always wondered about doing something like this when I had an ultrawide monitor - mapping the active area to just a portion of the display. Instead I decided to use two separate HDMI inputs on my ultrawide so that my PC thought it was seeing to separate monitors and then I mapped the tablet to the "left" HDMI output.
It will also have some effects which may not be desirable. For example the pixels themselves can be stretched. Or one other effect not all of the screen will be used.
FUCK MAN! Im was going crazy with this tablet shit, thank you for this awareness man! and hell why aren't pen tablets programmed to map the aspect ratio from the monitor by default?
Glad that helped! I wonder the same thing about why it isn't the default setting. Tablet manufacturers don't even draw attention to this even though it is so important for the right drawing feel.
When tablets are used with a phone I think they don't have any settings to control the tablet at all. On a PC or Mac the driver provides the UI to customize the settings.
So uh i have a question, i have a phone and a huion inspiroy drawing tablet it was oerfect the first months and then out of nowhere my ovals turned into circles and my circles turned into sideways ovals. So yeah distortion, but how do i fix it in a phone?
You should be able to find the steps for XP-Pen drovers in this doc: docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/guides/customizing-your-experience/matching-aspect-ratios
How to fix distortion if am using tablet pen with an android device, since it doesn't have a proper driver for android, there is no place to change settings

Glad it helped!
Oh my god thank you so much. Amazingly in-depth video and solved my issue perfectly.
Glad to hear the video for helpful for you!
I tried both but I think ur right with proportional mapping it's better even if u lose a little bit of active area
very good content thank you! I am 0 percent knowledge, it is very very good to train in the right way with right AR, that I no need to re adjust again when repurchase new tablet
This is so helpful!! I wish I knew how to fix it on a Xoppox, though, I love this tablet but don’t know how to fix it
In the Xoppox driver do you say anything that says "screen mapping"? You should be able to control it from there.

insanely helpful!!! thank you so much
You could also change the screen resolution which'd have the same effect I think

Thank you!
THANK YOU. I've never known this and I've used a Wacom pen tablet for 10+ years. lol

Sorry for the late reply. What is the model number of your tablet?
Anyone knows how to do this with XP pen drivers? I couldn't find that option to force proportions in it :c
