The Indian Ocean island of Mayotte has been a department of France since 2011, but locals feel abandoned by the country's central authorities. After more than two weeks of general strikes, which have often turned into riots, Mayotte is at a dead end, faced with illegal immigration, crime, unemployment and poverty. Despite the French prime minister announcing a series of measures at the start of this month, locals say the island is on the verge of collapse. Our team reports from Mayotte.

The other island wanted to be "free" but Mayotte people were smarter!
The concept of home is incredibly powerful. No matter the color of your skin, everyone, everywhere, wants their home to be safe.
Except those who actively try to salvage every last bit of it they can before it collapses.
There are many privilleges of being a territory under France as french government would treat Mayotte better than other Comorian islands in terms of economy, education, healthcare etc. That’s why most of illegal immigrants are coming from those islands. Just my opinion.
That exactly why they are, which is utterly hypocritical. These people in the 70s said France was EVIL and RACIST but now they want to beg France to take them back? I don't think so!
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv When you own a house and someone break in and take control of your home and all of its ressources .Now they are in control and declared themselves the sole owner by re-decorating the place, adding their rules and for years reinstating their authorities in your own home. One day, you wake up, and you get tired of all the exploitation and demand to reclaim what's yours. The only catch is that the intruder said: Okay,but I'm taking everything with me, you will not benefit from my protection and the delicious meal you use to enjoy Now your home will be empty, you will miss out on all those things and suffer unless I stay!...Choose; the psychological damage has been done 👊

I applaud these men for protecting their country.
Fix the problems in your homeland instead of taking the easy way out.
France better step up and help Mayotte, keep out Comoros refugees who refuse to follow their rules and ruin the lives of Mayotte citizens.

UN says Mayotte should be given back to Comoros, so most of the "illegal immigrants" are in their country the Comoros.
