    Everyone does it, but the term "membrane-bound" is inferior to "membrane-bounded".
    A ribosome is an organelle and in eukaryotic cells a ribosome can be bound to the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum. So a ribosome can fit the term 'membrane-bound' organelle. But prokaryotic cells have ribosomes.
    The term 'membrane-bounded' eliminates the ambiguity: it means the organelle itself has as its own boundary a membrane, excluding the possibility of the organelle not having a membrane itself but being bound to a membrane.

    What does membrane bound mean?

    • @BeverlyBiology
      @BeverlyBiology  7 лет назад +2

      "Membrane bound" means the organelle is wrapped in an outer layer. For example, mitochondria have an outer layer that wraps all around the outside of them. For this reason, the mitochondria are an example of a membrane bound organelle. Not all organelles are membrane bound. For example, there is no outer layer that wraps around ribosomes.
