- Case study 115 - Carotid Body Tumor & Paraganglioma
Carotid body tumors are growths in the blood vessels near your carotid arteries. These growths are typically benign (noncancerous), but may affect nearby nerves and blood vessels if they grow large. Healthcare providers often use surgery and embolization to treat carotid body tumors. (Source: Clevelandclinic.org)

I love your case studies. Im an RN and learn something new from you all the time. Thank you.
Not only are u an amazingly talented n compassionate Doctor, but an Excellent Teacher.
Your Residents, students, colleagues and staff and subscribers r Incredibly lucky!!.Such a logical, lovely presentation!! ❤
Freakin love this communication from you; what an excellent skill you have, that to be able to flip between professional and “lay persons” terms💪🏼💙🥰thank you!!!
You are an amazing doctor Betsey!! As a person with medical complex issues and years of hospitalizations you are the kind of doctor that are very hard to come by… intelligent, down to earth and you LISTEN to your patients. Surprise! Not all medical issues are derived from anxiety and panic attacks! 🙄 That is the scapegoat diagnosis doctors use when they are lazy, unsympathetic or can’t crack a case and are too haughty to admit it.
This was an excellent presentation! Who knew?
What are some of the differential diagnosis’?
If there is no pain, is this diagnosis frequently dismissed?
Thank you for all your efforts to educate us. ❤
A major factor not discussed is the possibility of Autonomic Dysfunction post surgery. Bilateral CBTs here with major Autonomic dysfunction following 2nd surgical resection. Voice paralysis for 6-9 months following first surgery. Embolization prior to both surgeries.
I have this condition...very informative video
Thank you for this detailed and summarised version of my medical condition which I have learned to control but recently have been suffering from extremely high BP levels. I have an inoperable corotid tumour and looking to undergo peptide therapy to shrink it.
Could you cover in another video what might be expected during such treatment and what exactly is peptide therapy.
I did not get this one correct, in fact I rarely do, however I need to give it up to my smart Queens and Kings who in fact did!
It can also be seen in the abdomen area. Paraganglioma/Pheochromocytoma are very rare but hopefully scientist may find a cure if they find the tumor to be malignant.
Question Dr. Grunch: Can a paraganglioma cause vasovagal syncope?
Scary..
Am I the only one who finds it ironic (I guess ironic) that her primary insisted it was anxiety but she had a tumour encroaching on her nerves preventing the nervous system from producing the hormone to make her anxious?
