As a 49 year old woman, this song hit me hard. I listen to it every day and I cry.
Gen X'ers have come on to social media and have talked us all up as the generation who raised ourselves, who no one cared for, who drank from the garden hose, etc. But you know, we're tough, we're strong, we don't take anyone's crap and we are growing old with attitude and style.
It is all bull 💩💩
(To be clear first of all, I was raised by two loving, present parents. We were farm kids - someone was always home. Both my mum and dad were lovely. This is NOT a dig at them).
This "we are better from being neglected/told we are garbage" bull 💩💩 coming out all over social media from guys in baseball caps and women with purple hair doesn't reflect reality in any way. From the time I was a preteen, I was aware that I lived in a society where, as a girl, especially, I wasn't good enough. Not feminine enough, not domesticated enough (there was still an emphasis in our community on girls being able to cook, knit and sew and do housework. I can't knit or sew to this day. Loathe housework.)
Marry these expectations with the growing belief that we were going to do well at school, get a higher education and amazing jobs...
I was smart enough. But not ambitious enough. Had no direction.
Also there were these expectations on how we looked. Not pretty enough. Not THIN enough (there's a wormhole). Not fit enough - what do you think happened to the kid who came in last place at school sports? Not sassy enough or edgy enough to be cool and, because I was raised in the Church with its growing Evangelical movement, not pure enough. Not good enough.
It has been a mantra I adopted my entire life. It has really all begun to unravel at this stage of my life - menopausal, gone through literal hell with medical stuff, depressed, people, who I thought would be friends for life, have let me down, not Insta-worthy enough for "friend selfies!!", not good enough a mother, a DIL, a wife... you get the point. Also very overweight.
All the advice has always been "5 easy steps/10 easy steps/50 easy steps for you to change".
"If you'd just .... you would be better".
This song is like a tonic. I feel as if it was written for me (I know a lot of people do). Never felt more seen and understood. And to hear the words "You are enough" just makes me cry like a baby every time.
This song hit me like a ton of steel. I have been dealing with a lot, a crap ton especially these past few months. Dealing with traumatic memories and the old feelings arising from those memories.
I think that you and a lot of us have needed to hear this song and its message.
You are good enough bro. It was CS that brought me to your stream on Twitch and it was hanging out in your streams that has helped me and many others.

This song has become my new anthem. Every line struck a chord and was something I needed to hear
I literally said the same thing to my boyfriend that this song is my new anthem it speaks everything that I feel. Of course he’s amazing. And it has nothing to do with him but yeah my past trauma it’s been a lot.
This song got me too. Those lyrics just hit home - "Right here, like this, right now
You are enough" and "Being human is what makes you something worthy of love Right here, this sick, right now You are enough". I've literally never felt like that.

Even though I've listened to this song hundreds of times already, I still cried with you man, it's tough
Keeping it inside doesn’t make you tough, letting it out and showing people your emotions is tough.
