    I absolutely love the subtle things in this episode to show how the Pierces', regardless of their "politics," are still at the end of the day just... also rich assholes. The way they treat their staff is interesting, like when Nan cajoles one of the waiters into having a drink as if she doesn't know they're working and they can't.

    • @Personalmeaccount
      @Personalmeaccount Год назад +68

      Yes, also when when the staff have prepared the meal and Nan goes to the kitchen once it's done and carries it into the dinning room and gets a round of applause when she literally did nothing and is only receiving praise for other people's hard work.

      @Al2023- LMFAOOOOOOOOO BROO. this comment on the rich people suck show??????

    • @Personalmeaccount
      @Personalmeaccount Год назад +19

      @Al2023- Nope. For a dinner like that and if it was the Roys, there’s no way you’d see Logan come in with the food and with people clapping and cheering for him because the Roys don’t pretend to be anything like the Pierce’s where they’re this morally liberal family. The scene where she brings in the food you could probably look past it but as the original commenter says, when you look at it with the context of Nan asking the staff to have a drink knowing that realistically she can’t because she’s working exposes her and what type of white liberal, doing things for show person she is. The pretence of having this relationship with her staff that she clearly doesn’t have and you can see it in the faces of all the staff when they do all the work and she takes it in for a round of applause. We also see this white liberalism is one of the Pierce’s who’s dong a phd in African studies, he’s a billionaire, doing all this PhDs to be pretentious when realistically he could probably positively impact the people he’s studying about. He’s doing a PhD to to feel good as though he’s doing something when he actually has the abilities to actually do something. That’s who the Pierce’s are, they’re pretentious and self aggrandising and Nan Pierce giving her family credit for taking down the Berlin Wall is also another reflection of that.
      Also that’s a terrible comparisons because actors get their awards for acting, not for writing. Actors don’t pretend they wrote the scripts and the people who award actors also award the directors, writers etc for their contribution. Actors also usually thank the people that made it possible for them to do what they do, Nan Pierce relished in the praise for herself.

    Logan was never planning on handing it over to Shiv just like he was never handing it over to Kendall. He makes those promises to keep them on his side begging for his approval so theyll keep slitting each others throats instead of his.

      I agree and it’s been evident since the first episode. Logan tells them to be independent but can’t stand them not being under his thumb. He demands complete control over everyone in his life. Generational trauma is ugly

It is very easy to miss and a put a serious face about all that is there, but cmon, it is as much as hilarious as it is tragic. I feel like few reactors see the fun of it behind the obvious drama of it.

    The contrast between old money (the Pierces) and new money (the Roys) is insane. Logan is Scottish, so he is an immigrant who, similarly to Murdoch irl, made his fortune in the US (I am guessing mostly after his second marriage, where he seems to have picked an English aristocrat after a failed 1st marriage with Connor's mother, who he probably found too unstable/frail to support him in his endeavours) and is living the American dream, which makes him and his children "new money". The Pierces have inherited their wealth for generations, so they don't think and don't care about money.
    The Pierces are poised, they don't shout nor swear, they hate talking about money like it's something dirty, they quote Shakespeare, are connected by heritage, family traditions and recipes, the love for culture and academics. And they don't try to look rich in their behaviour or looks. There is also no palpable tension among family members, the opposite of the Roys.
    The Roys can't stop talking and thinking about money, despite being already super rich, and you can see "new money" flashy looks in Kendall on various occasions, with his trendy designer clothes, sneakers and accessories.

  • @himurahaibara1459
    @himurahaibara1459 Год назад +6

    Like Jesse said, all this time Shiv looked into the company as an outsider since she had career elsewherehe. She looked at Roman and Kendall and made comments like a back seat driver, but when she's put under the same pressure and scrutiny she fucked up. I think she never experienced humiliation directly by Logan until she decided she wants in. She probably thought it's all fun and games for her brothers being under Logan's command.
    Pierce is the type who put up the compassion, women empowerment front, acting hollier than thou when they're just as detached from reality like the Roys is.

      @@chops_chops yeah, her literally not undestanding, that ATN being a Fox News of that universe is what made their fortune and keeps them relevant. She just wants to have an another lefty brand, not understanding that demographics vary, and they have their own niche, which also gives them political influence.
      It is funny how Roman has actually the best business takes often, but is too messed up and weak to follow them, and anyone can sway him. Shiv? She thinks that is better than anyone else, while being the exact same hypocrite, and as Rhea said, she thinks that she is smarter than she actually is. Not a serious person, as Marcia summed up them.
      She also get a great reality check (probably was to dumb to understand it) in season 1, when the news producer said to her that the only reason she is allowed to be here and try to push her influence is because her name matches the one on the building.
      They all are at most medicore in what they do, and if you look closely during the whole series they only harm the company and lower its value.
